I feel so foolish asking this question but we are going to be going with a stroller bound child this trip, we never have small children with us. What is the best way budget wise to handle this. What would be the cost of single vs double. I know we will need one. Please advise any alternatives we have.

I don't know exactly what the cost is but I found in the past that I thought it was way too much.

During the years before ME, we would drive our rental car to Walmart or Target and purchase a brand new stroller. Once, we decided to not even take it home; we left it in our villa.

EXPENSIVE!! I would look at magicstrollers.com or orlandostrollers.com. You can rent them for the week and have them all the time, not just at the parks. They deliver them to your hotel, and pick them up when you are done. My neighbors did it and said it was fantastic. Much cheaper than renting a disney stroller too. At disney, a single is $15 a day, and a double is $31 a day! At Magic strollers, a single is $15 for the first day, then $8 for additional days. For doubles, it is $25 for the first day, then $9 for additional days.

Double stroller is more than double! Its insane!!
You do get a little discount if you pay up front for all the days you will be there... but it isn't much
15 per day single
31 per day double
Stroller Rentals
Strollers are available for rent at a variety of locations throughout Disney Theme Parks, Water Parks, and the Downtown Disney® Area. Quantities are limited, and subject to availability. Double-passenger strollers are not available for rent at the Downtown Disney® Area.

The stroller rental fee is $15.00 per day for a single-passenger stroller and $31.00 per day for a double-passenger stroller. A $100 credit card deposit is required per stroller rented at the Downtown Disney® Area. The rented stroller must be returned to the original rental location to receive a credit card deposit refund.

For Guests who require a stroller rental for multiple days, we offer a Length of Stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment transaction for as many days of rental that you will need. Single-passenger strollers are available for $13.00 per day and double-passenger strollers for $27.00 per day. Upon visiting a Theme Park, simply show your receipt at the stroller rental location and you will be expedited through the queue with little or no wait time.

wow that is a lot on money...7 days even paying up front is $91...wow

Why dont you just bring one from home. You can take it to the airport and check it at the gate (not counted toward your baggage) and then you are using your own which you would be used to instead of something Disney had.

Or havent I read where people will ship stuff to there hotel before they go? You could order one from amazon.com (free shipping if you spend over $25) and then be able to use it whenever you want.

Diegosmom is right - we brought our own strollers the last time - they don't count as baggage. The only problem is if your stroller gets lost or damaged the airline is not liable, so you may end up with no stroller for your trip or when you get home. That said, our strollers arrived safe and sound.
Next time we are going to buy a Disney umbrella stroller when we get there (I think it is around $50) or buy a cheap one at Walmart before we leave - we can always sell it when we get home. Have a great trip!!

Before our first trip we wound up buying two Maclaren Volos (under $150 for both including shipping on ebay). It seemed a bit expensive, but was less than half the price of renting a double for 10 days.

We wound up using the strollers for 3 trips ($900 worth of renting) and gave them to my sister to use for her kids.

We also liked having our own strollers because we could use them around the resort as well as in the parks.

I would definitely take your own. It is great to have while you are waiting for buses or monorail at the end of the day with a tired child, and for walking back to your room once you are at your resort.

I can't believe people pay $31/day for a stroller. We bought a double umbrella stroller at a consignment shop for $19!!

you can also rent a stroller from one of the rental companies in Orlando, which is much cheaper than renting from Disney. It is usually a nicer stroller, too.

We decided we needed one for my niece a couple years ago once we were at Disney and bought one of the red fold-up ones they sell at the parks for about $50. It was a very good deal, as we used it every day. You might think about doing that instead of renting.

(We didn't think we'd need one because she was 5 and we never needed one when my DD was 5).

Thanks for the sugestions everyone. I do think I will rent one, maybe. Still not sure. Where do you get the lenght of stay stroller rentals? That may be our best bet. It is for a four year old and I'm not sure an unbrella stroller will work. We are the grandparents so I think we will just rent a single and if we can get the lengh of stay it will work.

The Maclaren Volo someone mentioned earlier fits up to about 55 pounds. My DD is 5 years/56 pounds and we used it last week in WDW and it is still going strong! The Volo's also have very good resale value!

Bring your own or purchase one at the parks on the first day! The rentals are hard uncomfortable plastic, very little storage and expensive! Not to mention tough to find in the sea of rental strollers outside the rides. And if you have anything to carry (bad with water, sunscreen, sweatshirts) you will want your own. Since you have to leave the stroller behind at each park, then walk to the monorail, boats or busses with tired kids and bags otherwise, having your own ius worth it. I wouldnt go with an umbrella stroller, but one step up.. like a combi maybe. And they are invaluable in the airport, fyi
Have a great trip!

Totally agree on the plastic ones they rent in the park, plus I always need the stoller on the way out of the turnstiles to transportation!

We just did 4 trips in 1 year, found the Maclaren was the easiest to push with a preschooler (I also own a Zooper and Combi.) The Volo's seat is very deep that they can fall asleep w/o falling forward.

People also swear by one that Orlando Stroller Rental has- I think it is the Citi Mini
