How Messy is your Garage?

Wow... I feel a lot better about my garage now. It is somewhat cluttered, but not as bad as some I just read about. It is a two car garage that we added on about 4 years ago. We would have gone for larger, but our land slopes away on the far side of the garage and the cost to build into the slope prevented it. But we did make it deeper than the norm.

We fit our mini van and my DH's convertible, along with 5 bicycles, 2 scooters, a fisher-price ride on dumptruck, mini basketball hoop, skateboarding ramp, fishing poles, three large ladders, and a large three section shelving unit full of car care stuff, winter tires, bicycle pumps, oil and filters, sleeping bags and tents, inflatable rafts/boats, etc. Plus we have a rubbermaid sports "keeper" thingie that holds basketballs, footballs, baseball bats, skip-its, skateboards. Plus three large trash barrels and, according to season, either the lawn mower or the snow blower (the off-season one gets stored in the shed). OF course, this is not to mention the two mini-trampolines, assorted outdoor Christmas decor, sleds, hulahoops, folding chairs, golfclubs. But honestly, I would venture a guess that most people would say our garage is fairly well organized. Not pristine, mind you (I have an uncle whose garage floor you could EAT off of, he is so anal about keeping it clean!). ....................P

Garage? What garage? I don't have one...any more!  I miss it soooooooooooooooooooooo much! I had a two-car garage the 7.5 years I owned my home in FL. The van was in one side, my "stuff" in the other. It was GREAT!

I miss that garage soooooooooooooo much! (Didn't I already say that?) When I moved, I got rid of quite a bit. But then when I bought this home, I had to ditch more since I don't have one. I have a "sunroom." It's my storage area, but not nearly the space of my garage.

we also have a 2 car garage that holds one car. The other side isnt too bad at the moment because we just cleaned it out, but it usually doesnt stay that way for very long

My mother is probably rolling over in her grave. When she was alive the 2 car garage actually held two cars.

After her death, my father who loves garage sales and "stuff" kept putting things in there - still room for one car.

About 4-5 years ago my aunt and uncle moved into an assisted living center and stored a lot of stuff in the garage until they could decide what to do with it. The next day my aunt went into a nursing home where she lived out the last of her life. My uncle has been in a nursing home for about a year now also. They are never coming back for their stuff.

Then I move back to Arkansas almost 3 years ago and the movers somehow get most of my stuff in the garage also. It was like a maze - piled to the ceiling - every square inch taken.

Now after donating dozens of truck loads of stuff, having multiple garage sales and finding freecyle.com I have the inside of the house cleared of boxes and the garage is only about 1/3 full plus some boxes that are to be picked up.

Believe it or not this garage has incredible storage with built in shelves and even a little workroom niche - I'm just now able to even get to that part to clean it out.

I never believed that it would take this long. I think that's another reason that I love going to WDW - I get a nice empty room to move into.

I am determined to get a car in there this winter!

My first thought when I read the title of this thread was "I don't even want to go there..." . My garage is beyond words when it comes to messy. I keep thinking about it though, I am moving soon and am going to have to go in there one day.

I share a garage with some of the other tennants. I like to keep things neat and organized, and it drives me nuts when they leave greasy tools around. I really just use it for my bike. So I keep my area really neat!:D

Our garage is awful. Really everyone in our neighbor who has a garage either a 1 or 2 car one cannot use it to park a car in and no one rarely does. We all have no basements, so everything gets stored in the garages. Plus the fact that we just cleaned out fil house and have inherited his stuff to go along with my parents, grandparents and deceased sisters stuff does not help. Well now I am finally at the point to start going through the papers and throwing them away, the time is up and no one can bring a claim against some of the estates now plus things we never had time to sort through, we now can start doing, so its a slow process that is slowly getting done. We have cleaned out 2 houses and are dealing with 6 other peoples stuff in our garage besides the 5 peoples stuff inside our house daily, so even though our garage is a mess, I am proud of all dh and I have accomplished, not to mention it getting done while living in another state with no help from any relatives etc. Some while even taking care of a 91 yo grandma and 3 kids under 7 at one time.

Garage? Huh? You mean that building attached to the side of my house, with a huge door on the front, that's about the right size to park a car inside?

It's the home of the canoe my DH is about 2/3 of the way through building. A 14 or so foot canoe takes up all the room, and all the stuff he's using to build it surrounds it. Not to mention the Power wheels jeep, a wagon, a couple of strollers and all the stuff DH pulled out of that mess he calls a car the other day.....

My jeep used to fit in there, but it's been moved outside, into all the rain/snow/sunshine/sleet/whatever else. Such a pity!

I think the cutout of the giant mythological beast is cool!

I keep thinking we should apply to that Clean Sweep show and have them do our garage.

I hate having my house a mess - so if I don't have a place for something in here - it goes to the garage.

It's a 3 car garage... and on a good day we can just barely squeeze the VW Beetle in.

:sad2: don't even get me started...2 car garage.....have to turn sideways to walk through it....DH's tools and "toys"....not my stuff......what a freakin' mess......why do we need 53 3-1/2 foot scraps of wood?....

Mine is full. :faint: But not with a car. I mistakenly thought when i bought my house that since I had one car I needed one garage. :confused3 W-R-O-N-G!!! My car has never seen the inside. My friends with one car have two car garages. Wish I had known that before. Live and learn!

Rumor has it Cinderella sent her mice to clean it up :teeth:

I'm hoping to get a storage area built into our very large crawl space soon, so I can move some stuff. Right now the garage holds dh's workshop and tools, all the lawn care stuff, a weight bench and excercise bike, a dirt bike, the freezer, lots of storage, and of course all the bikes and sports equipment.

Although we have a two car garage, I painted white lines to make one parking space in the middle which no one is supposed to clutter. That works part of the time, but we don't use it except in the winter or if dh is working on the car. Currently the parking space holds some projects the kids are working on though.
