How many vehicles does your household have?

We have 3 autos. At one point we had one car and my husbands work van. We did it as long as possible, but DH couldn't take DS everywhere in the work van. This year we got a used car and it makes life for all of us so much easier. The 2nd car isn't driven on a regular basis, so gas isn't that much of an issue. The SUV and work van are the ones on the road all the time.

Heck I am ONE person and I have 2 vehicles no way could I have 2 people in the house and only one car....I have a 04 van I use on the weekends and I have an old (1999) saturn I use running back and forth to work. I had a motorcycle until I got pregnant and then I sold it....boy do I miss that bike!!!

we have 3 cars & 3 drivers.
DH commutes with the Honda Insight. His commute is to Chelmsford, MA a minimum of 1-1/2 hrs from our home in NH. so at about 75 + MPG the Insight is a must for him
I drive a Honda Accord, work seasonally, but very different hrs than DS or DH; & DS17 has an Olds Achieva (poor thing, not a real babe magnet! :teeth: ) DS17 drives himself to work--which is different hrs totally from DH's hrs. He is homeschooled so no driving to school
I feel we could get along with 2 cars. We did go with only one car when DS was an infant & toddler, it was doable, but a pain. since both of my parents were kids during the Great Depression & DH's parents were also frugal, we've both grown up with the 'you don't make wasted trips' philosophy
we are in the market for a used pickup--we need it for the business, dump day (no trash collection in the sticks) & for fetching things(for the most part, no appliance delivery out here, either--& when there is it is pricey :scared: )
we will only run the truck for those things & may give the Honda the heave ho

One car (Toyota Camry) and one golf cart (electric). Neither of us plays golf, but golf carts are a popular way to get around the community, which is pretty big.

I have 2 and I wouldnt get rid of one just because of fuel prices.

The K5 (god, saying "goonduz" doesnt sound as good as mudnuri did) Doesnt need to be driven, and I can get away with 2 tanks a year if I had to. I would just have to fill it in the early winter, drain that tank in the spring and fill it again for the summer. Being a 42 gallon tank, it holds quite a bit, but at 7mpg it doesnt last very long driving. It generally is only driven on nice days in the spring/summer/fall and when I find an occasional mudd bogg to play in for an afternoon- now THAT eats up some fuel!!!

My Passat on the other hand- averages 27 mpg, so I'll drive that when prices go up.

However- that said- considering I pay $2.37 for a 24 oz cup of coffee at dunkin donuts, 3 bucks for a gallon of gas doesnt seem to bad in perspective, so I dont complain about prices of gas!

The minimum in this house would be 2. DH takes DS to school at 6:30 am then he heads to work-about 20 miles.

I get the princess off to school at 9 and then I head to work 7 miles.

DS just got his license so he can now drive We just got another vehicle today so we could shuffle things around.

I drive an 02 Honda Odyssey (DS is 6'4" and he fits in the back), DH drives a 93 Honda Accord which will now go to DS and we just got a 98 Honda Civic for DH to commute to work in. There is also the boy toy "Big Ugly" a butterscotch yellow 73 GMC P/U . DS could continue to drive with us, but it is more convenient for him to get himself around with sports etc....Plus he works at my office part time during his free period and after practice/school. He can get himself to my office instead of me going to get him. His high school is only 5 minutes away but I have to leave, go get him, take him back etc....

Fortunately our cars all get good gas mileage and we try to consolidate our errands.

None.
I haven't learned to drive, and don't intend to until absolutely necessary.
And my mum doesn't drive.
All the things we need / want are acessible by bus / train.

We only have one car. Luckily we don't need a second one, at least not yet! Living in Boston makes it really convenient to get around. :)

We are a family of 6 and up until now we have only had 1 vehicle. Actually we didn´t even have a car for almost 5 years.
However, we recently purchased our second car since it was becoming impossible to get all the kids round to all their activities with only 1 car in the household.

We have 4 cars but that's because we have two teenagers, one who attends college two hours away. Fortunetly, both teens have to pay for their own gas. :)

You counting just the ones you drive regularly, or all of your vehicles ;) ?
We have two that we drive on a regular basis. Then we have several others that we use on the 'farm' (we own acreage) and we have two old cars that we show.
We don't intend on getting rid of any of them.

We have 2 cars because we both work with 2 totally different schedules.

we have one car, one pickup truck, one branco and then we have 4 motorcycles and another motorcycle on its way in april ( there is just 2 of us)

We have always had 3 cars. We buy used and need another one just in case. I tell you that 3rd car came in handy for a spare.

Now dd will be turning 15 and getting her permit. So soon to be 3 drivers here.:scared: ;)

Now if we absolutely had to get by with one car, we could do it but it would involve alot of walking!

We have three cars - DH's work, mine for work and a pleasure vechicle (transportation to Disney). If it was $3 I could and would just pay it. We never bought gas guzzlers, so not real problem.

We have 3 vehicles for 2 drivers:

'01 Saturn SC2 - my commuter car

'03 Dodge Caravan - "family" car

'96 Ford Ranger - DH uses to commute on occassion and it's great for all those misc. things you need a truck for when you own a house. And we always have the extra car for when another is in the shop.

The Ranger may have to go soon. :( It's been a fabulous truck, but may need alot of work to pass inspection this year. Here's hoping the inspection is not too bad!

Sounds like us! We have two, a 98 Ranger and my Ford Escape. We are having a baby in a few weeks though, so we really needed two cars with a back seat (which the Ranger didn't have). So, we are picking up our new Toyota Corolla tonight and trading in the Ranger

Boy are we going to miss the Ranger. It comes in so handy to haul things for the house and stuff. We thought about keeping it as a third car, but we just can't afford the insurance and we got a GREAT trade in price for it. Plus, it most likely will need a lot of work at inspection this year. So far we haven't sunk a dime into that car except for oil changes and brakes once. We even got lucky (if you can call it that) and had the tires replaced for free because of the Firestone recall a few years back.

Technically we could probably have kept it (or even gotten away with just 1 car) since we both work at the same company, but with a kid and DH in school it just would be so difficult. We plan on using the Corolla as our commute car and the Escape as our weekend/family car.

:coffee: when dd was little we only had one car and had to take dh to work etc. once she got into about 3rd grade we got a second car. dh works in retail so his hours change all the time. we both have 93 Grand Prix's just different models....mine 4 door, his 2 door. we are now looking to replace one of the cars....they are getting up in miles. but they've been great cars......  so I don't think we could do with just one car--I can make my gas last longer than dh--
