It's way more then people think, I was astounded. At how many people were there on a Thursday night!!! I always thought it was capped at 10,000' but it was double, if not triple that!!!!
We are normally in MK on a day when the crowds are estimated between 6-8. The party felt no different to me, but thinned out a lot after 7pm. The rides were mostly walk on since so many people are there for the characters.
I've been to three MNSSHP and one MVMCP. One Halloween party was sold out and so was the Christmas party. I tried asking CMs how many people that is and no one will cough up that information. I believe I was told it was a percentage. Percentage of what? People line up at 7pm for the parade right away and the crowds get thinner after 9pm. You can get in as early as 4pm, fyi. That's what we've always done.

Through some group meetings, we heard - unofficially from a supervisor
. . . first started at 10,000 (twice the "old" fee-based EMH 5,000 crowd level)
. . . then, moved to 20,000
. . . then, moved to 25,000
. . . last year, we heard it was 32,000 nightly
I've only been to a few, and I would estimate they've been northwards of 20,000 people at them. I'll admit it is not near the peak crowds you can get in the parks, but it is also not near the "Low crowds" you can get either. When we did the MNSSHP in October 2010, it was quite honestly the worst crowds we hit all week, which REALLY turned me off. Sure, the line rides were short, but who goes to the MNSSHP just to go on rides? The crowds for both parades were massive, we spent more time waiting for stuff in those 5 hours than we spent waiting the entire rest of the week.
Certainly your mileage may vary, and there a lots of people that LOVE these parties, but we've done each one once, and never again. One key is do an early in the week, and early in the season party if you can. Not all parties are sell outs. The MVMCP we went to last year (Tuesday in Nov) was not as bad crowds-wise as the MNSSHP we did (Thursday in Oct).
