How many tents can you put on a site?

Hi everyone! We are planning on camping for the first time July 25th-August 1st (A quick thanks to all the folks for all the great information on here!).

A question we can't seem to get a straight answer on, how many tents are allowed on a site? (FYI, we have a preferred site) We have received conflicting information from Disney. One CM told us 1 tent/1 vehicle; another told us that since we have just our vehicle (not an RV) that we could have two tents plus a canopy/shade pop up. We're confused.

There will be eight family members on the site, our vehicle, and we were hoping to use two tents. We have one large cabin tent but we figured two individual tents would give everyone some privacy. We camp a ton up in the Adirondacks so we have a bunch of configurations we can bring down (we just don't want to have to tear down a tent for not being in compliance). Thanks in advance for all your help and we're glad we found these threads!!! :thumbsup2

We were there in May and we saw the Disney tents(the ones you can rent from the fort) set up with 2 on a site. Plus I figure if you can have a camper AND a tent on one site you probably can have 2 tents. Hope this helps.:goodvibes

The "official" answer is 1 tent/1 RV and awning OR 2 tents and screenroom/sun shelter.

However, back on loop 2000, I've had 3 tents and 3 shelters up and not a word was said. This is a partial hookup loop designed with tenters in mind and many times I've seen 3 or 4 tents set up on Loop 2000 per site (especially Scout groups).

BUT you are in a preferred loop which is 100, 200, or 300 which has more traffic and more RVs, so they will probably make you stick to 2 tents and an awning.

Carol is right on, if you have a "camping unit" (Disney-speak for an RV) you may have one tent in addition. But, a dining tent/awning room/ez-up type tent that is set up adjacent to the RV does not count toward your tent total... so you can have your RV, a dining tent and a sleeping tent on a preferred site. That said, the rules are not uniformly enforced and I have seen multiple sleeping tents on the same site as an RV. I would say plan to make it work within the rules, but go on and set it up the way that works best for you and expect the rule to be ignored. I hate to give advice that goes against the rules, but why should I care about their rules more than they do? But it is always best to know the rules, and to plan contingencies, in case they suddenly decide to enforce them!

:santa:

Thanks for all the advice so far. Like I said, we are just going to have our mini-van and two tents (and dining tent), so it sounds like we'll be alright. Now the question is.... after reviewing photos you all have posted of various camping sites, will we have a large enough sand pad on a preferred site for two large (10x14) tents? Thanks again!;)

That's the kicker. Some of the preferred sites have pretty small sand areas.

I would fax them a request five days out and tell them you need a site with a large sand area and tell them you have 2 10x14 tents. You could probably set up the dining tent over the driveway part

There is not a standard size for the sand pad. Some will be large enough and you will not have a problem. You may have to be creative on some of the smaller ones.

Thanks for all the tips and advice! I think we just might put a sleep pad down, use a tree for the bathroom, and let the kids sleep under the van. :rotfl:
