DW is setting aside the clothes we're taking for our Magic cruise on the 30th, and I noticed that she sure seemed to have a lot of shoes piled up. I asked her how many pairs she was taking, and she said "Six, unless I decide to take one more." Now, that counts her AquaSocks as a pair of shoes, and it counts the shoes that she's wearing on the way down there.

But I'm taking three pairs of shoes. My AquaSocks, a pair of dressy shoes and the tennis shoes I'll wear down there. That's it.

I think she's insane, personally. But what do I know? So I'll ask you, ladies, is this at all rational?

Sadly, I don't think I even OWN that many pairs of shoes.

Tell Imelda to bring 'em on (what size does she wear, maybe she'll share?)
;)

Jimbo, she's being reasonably restrained. I took:

1. Tennis shoes for when there's a lot of walking - and wore these on the plane.
2. Aquasocks for the beach
3. Black Evening sandals - I found a pair of "strappy" sandals that were acceptable with my formal night evening pants as well as my capris so I wore them every night.
4. Casual Teva type sandals for around the ship during the day and for non walking excursions.
5. I think one more pair of sandals just because.

BUT, I didn't take any more because I didn't want to devote the space to them and I didn't do ANY color matching of shoes to outfits. My feet aren't very attractive so I don't do anything to call attention to them.

Actually my DH took 4 pair - the same as you with the addition of a pair of sandals.

Don't try to understand it, you're a guy, but she's doing fine if she can limit it to six or seven.

I plan on taking 3 (ok maybe 4). The sketchers tennis shoes for walking around, the sandals for the pool area, dress shoes and maybe......ummmmm....can't think of the fouth just yet! My DH is the shoe person. He has 3 times as many as me in his closet. Can't imagine what he'll bring!

Wore tennis shoes; took aqua shoes, black dress shoes, and a pair of sandals for each of us. That was all we needed.

She's officially going to be called Imelda on this trip!

LOL mmouse37. Did you sneak into my stateroom and take that picture? We had our then 18 and 21 year old DD's with us and it was shoe chaos.

DH bought a heavy duty shoe hanger from Ikea this past weekend. He wants to be prepared for the May repo cruise. Only one DD is able to join us, but she'll have two weeks worth of shoes. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Shoes are so hard! They are heavy and take up LOTS of room! I agree guys have it easier!

On our upcoming 10 day Christmas cruise I'm taking: 1) tennis shoes (airport and WDW before cruise, plus I have them for exercising), 2) tevas, 3) sparkly dress sandals 4) casual leather sandals. I'd love to add white slides and water shoes, but I'm sacrificing them for the sake of packing space! I've decided that my DH and I will use our Tevas instead of water shoes. If space is really tight, the kids water shoes stay behind too. We buy the tevas that can get wet instead of the leather ones.

DH will have: 1) tennis shoes (same use as me), 2) brown dress shoes, 3) black dress shoes, 4) tevas

DS gets tennies, tevas, 1 pair of dress shoes, water shoes

DD (12) will probably be our big shoe taker. She's at the age where the shoes have to match the outfit, and she's only 1/2 a size smaller than me, so they'll take up lots of room! She'll probably have at least 3 pair of sandals, so her water shoes are definitely staying behind!

MJ - I always think of that picture when someone brings up shoes! :D

We're on the 10 day with Lisa and I'm brining: gym's for the flights and WDW, black sandels for evening, tan sandels that can be worn day or evening, and my water shoes. DH is wearing his brown New Balance shoes on the plain, bringing black dress shoes, sandels, and water shoes.

The scary part is that there are even more shoes lined up above the sofa that you cannot see!!!

My husband cringes every time we travel...he has told the girls that they are responsible for the shoe bag...he refuses to carry it!!!

Jimbo,

My parents started calling me Imelda when I was a teenager and not much has changed!! I love shoes, there could be worse things to be addicted to!! I am bringing tennies (wear on plane because they are the bulkiest) black dress shoes, black, white, pink and multi-colored flip flops. Hey, shoes make the outfit!!

DH will have: 1) tennis shoes (same use as me), 2) brown dress shoes, 3) black dress shoes, 4) tevas
YOur DH can skip the black dress shoes - just wear the tevas with dark socks - no one but the shoe/fashion/formal night police will even notice that he's not wearing dress shoes - that's what I'm doing.

Of course six pairs of shoes is rational. Actually, I think it's conservative.

I'll have ten for our 7nt. My husband will yell and carry on and I'll still have ten!

But he'll notice! That's for formal/semi-formal night and there would be absolutely no way he would do that. He wouldn't even wear black dress shoes with tan pants (hence the need for brown and black). If I left all the packing up to him, he'd take twice as much as I do, and only wear 1/2 of it. He's the classic over-packer.

I can't see the picture here, because we block Webshots for some reason at our company. I sent the link to DW, though, and she said:
Did you see all the various styles of flip-flops? That's what I'm talking about. I can't wait. I feel vindicated.
So if you run into us on the 10/30 cruise, be sure to say hi to Imelda.

In all seriousness, I think 6 is about middle of the road for a 7 night cruise (don't forget disembarkation is on day 8). Men can get by with one pair of bucks, but women often need different dressy shoes for different dresses. I was pretty proud of myself when I only brought 7 pairs on the magic.

DVCREG, I need to get one of those shoe things from IKEA too!!! How many shoes are you taking on the May Repo cruise???

14 days is a long time for myself and DD. I think between the 2 of us we'll have more shoes than underwear!!

I've been down this shoe road and it can be painful. My first cruise I brought a suitcase for my shoes. Then I used half of one suitcase. My last 7 day, I lost control again.

Here is my plan for our next cruise-
1 pair of white sandals
1 pair of dressy sandals
1 pairs of sneakers

I will say this-having been on a few cruises-the whole dressing up thing gets overplayed. So, maybe it is my more relaxed attitude that helps me with my shoe issue! Wearing khakis and nice t shirts, skorts etc helps to keep the shoe count down.
