We just got new satellite receivers yesterday since one of our old ones died, we added a new one and they went ahead and replaced the other one in the bedroom. I'm looking at the coffee table right now and there are five - count 'em - five remotes sitting on the table. We have the TV remote. The VCR remote. The DVD remote. The old Satellite receiver remote. And the new satellite receiver remote. We don't even need to duel with the remotes, because we only have three people in our family and if I don't want to watch what husband is watching in the den, I can go into the living room or the bedroom.

So, how many remotes are too many? Four in a room? Two?

We have 5 also.
TV, VCR, DVD, satellite antenna, and one that switches between the DVD and VCR....I hate it!

 In our living room we have 8 one for the DVD, VCR, TV, reciever, cable box. Plus we have 3 universal remotes. Our bedroom has 5 one for the DVD, VCR, cable box and 2 universal remotes. My DS's room he has only one his kids remote. Plus other ones we keep in our drawers

Can you tell my DH works for the cable company?

In our living room we have a Satelite remote, Surround Sound Remote, and DVD remote.

In the bedroom we have TV and DVD player.

We have four and they drive me insane. I sure wish we could get rid of them all and just have one.

Samandmom, if I had to have 8 remotes I think I would go over the edge. Oh my!:scared1:

Toooooo many remotes. Everything has a remote in todays world. I think each roon must have at least 5. Enough to drive someone

My DH hates them can't understand why one remote can't do everything. AC remotes, TV remotes, DVD remotes, Stereo Remotes. Radio Remotes, Electric Car start remote. Garage Door remote, Christman Tree remotes. etc, etc.

I think it's a conspiracy by the battery companies to keep us broke.

We could always go back to the days when everytime you wanted to make an adjustment or change the channel you had to get up to make the change.

No wonder so many channels had high ratings. Too lazy to change the channel.

Someone needs to come up with a remote to start the lawn mower and control it from the house.

I have an end table drawer FULL of remotes. I never use them, I have ONE universal learning remote that I have programmed with all of them. With it I replaced the remotes for:
1) TV
2) Cable Box
3) HT Receiver
4) CD Player
5) DVD Player
6) Dolby Digital Decoder
7) Double Cassette
9) MiniDisc Player
10) VCR
11) Room lights

My kids playroom however has about 4 of them in there all in use.
So I'd have to say anything more than 1 remote is too many.
I'm actually hoping that Santa will be really good to me and get me a new color touchscreen remote, but I don't think it'll happen.

We have the usual 5 or 6, plus the X10 remote for the lights and such.

I have a Compaq Ipaq Pocket PC that I can control the whole house with. I LOVE IT!

I wish EVERYTHING was on a remote!

There IS a radio controlled lawn mower, much like the Roomba vaccum cleaner. Luckily, we don't need a lawn mower yet.

let's see...in our living room we have 6. One for the stereo, one for the tv, one for the cable box, one for the vcr, one for the dvd player, and one for our tivo. the oly one we use with any regularity though is the tivo one. :teeth:

I had never heard of a remote for an AC.

Anybody got a remote for their ceiling fan? We have one in our bedroom that also controls the light on the fan.

We have WAY too many, IMO!! We have one for:
1. TV
2. Receiver
3. DVD player
4. VCR
5. CD player
6. Video Camera

And DS's swing even has a remote!

We obviously don't have enough. My son likes to hide them. I found one in the heating/ac vent, one in the trash can and the hardest one to find was behind the refrigerator.;)

Now they have to stay on the mantle.

I hope I am not hijacking this thread TOO badly.

I love remote controls pretty much to a fault. I picked up a Home Automation starter kit from X10.com (yes, the annoying pop-up site has a legitemate side). With it came a remote, a control module and two or three appliance modules. All you do is plug in your lamp, fan, or even coffee maker to the appliance module and preto! you can control it via the remote control. It works with a RF signal from the remote to the control module, which is plugged into the wall socket. The signal then goes through your house wiring. Pretty nice.

They also have wall plugs, wall switches (even dimmers), thermostats, and motion detectors. All to make your whole house completely automated.

My kit came with a computer interface, so I can even control the lights and fans with my computer. :)

This is not an advertisement, just a quick endorsement for something i love. :)

There are other companies that do this type of thing, if you do not want to support the Internet Pop-up King. :)
