We usually fly, but now that we are new owners to a TT, we are thinking about pulling it to FW for next years vacation, but am a little concerned about driving that far while pulling a 30 ft TT. Last spring we rented a MH and drove it down and stayed at FW. We had mixed feelings about the trip, but I think the biggest causes of the disappointment was that it was a rental and for those who have rented a car in the past know what I mean? How many people pull their TT from Michigan or similar distance and what tips could you provide?

Thanks,

We have pulled our trailer to FW 4 times since we bought it in 03.
A lot depends on your family and what their habits are. We prefer to leave early the first day and usually stop in Perry GA. From there its only 6 hrs to FW and we can be in and set up before dinner. We always build extra time into the schedule for constructions delays.

A portable DVD player is a must
26 gal fuel tank on my Chevy makes for frequent stops
I fuel at Flying J whenever possible since they are so RV friendly
Having a sense of humor helps when traveling :teeth:

we make sure everyone has a job to do when we stop, that way the driver gets a little extra time

You definetly want to take the TT on shorter trips before going all the way to FW, figure out what works for your family.

Pizza rolls on the manifold are our favorite luch on the road.

let me know if you have any other ???

seeya at FW

We pulled our 36' fifth wheel down in '04. We made it a three day trip down via Indiana and Nashville ( less mountains ) with each day being 450 to 500 miles. We stayed 10 days at FW then took three days to get home. That was the year Atlanta had record rain and flooding and we drove right down the middle of it. We have just resently traded our fifth wheel for a 38' motorhome and will be going again to FW in the spring of '07.We love all things Disney and are DVC members. Now that DVC lets you use points at FW we will be going there much more often then the DVC resorts.
P.S. Rent a golf cart :thumbsup2

You can use DVC points at FW now? How does that work? I looked at the DVC page, but it doesn't say anything about FW. I suppose you have to buy membership at another resort and use those points at FW? What is the point fee?
Thanks

You only want to buy DVC points to use at DVC.

That said you can use DVC points at other Disney resorts with no additional fee however the point cost is usually higher than staying at a DVC resort and may be higher than what one could obtain renting the points out and then staying for cash.

See the DVC boards for more info. For myself I've been tempted to do tent campingusing DVC points.

We have a 35ft TT that we pull with our F-350 Crew cab from Northern WI. Took us about 30 hours, but really never had any problems at all. Some of the gas stations are tricky to get into, but because our truck is diesel alot of times the diesel is in the back or side so there is a little more room. My husband does all the driving and the only concern he had is when the semi's go by they make such a wind draft that pulls you but after a couple of times he was ready for it!! He just told me to make sure I knew how to read the map because you cant just stop and swing around when you are 60 feet long :teeth: By the way Fort Wilderness is great!!

we have pulled our trailer down to Fort Wilderness twice since we bought it last April, The drive really isnt that bad, and to me half the fun of the trip is the time spent driving down, It is solid one on one time with the family and many memories and laughter are created in the getting there part and getting home, not to mention the great time in between.
