How many presents do your children get?

I've got two kids, aged 8 and 11. They'll have 18 or 19 gifts to unwrap. That includes 6 items that are for the entire family (Wii games, a card game, and a device to help when soldering). They'll also be getting a couple of unwrapped items (a bundle of GoPro video accessories) and a table tennis table. Their big gifts are a Kindle for the 11 year old and a rock tumbler for the 8 year old. They'll also each get a GoPro HD Hero. Most of the rest consists of books, craft items, and DS games.

That's the stuff from us. They'll also get stuff from Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles. At this age, that often comes in the form of gift cards and cash.

I'm also planning to give them a cash tree. It'll start with $5 and it will grow more cash as long as it is left alone. If they take any money from the tree it will either slow its growth or stop growing. It will finish growing right before their spring break trip. It's a elaborate way to give them spending money for spring break and to encourage them to save money and defer gratification.

Both my kids are getting 8 gifts this year ~

DS's "big" gifts are a Swiss Military Watch and cash that I'll deposit in his checking account on the 23rd for him to go snowboarding over Xmas weekend where he is stationed in Misawa, Japan.

DD's "big" gifts are a pair of snowblades and a box with four gift cards totalling $50 (Marshalls, Dunking Donuts, Itunes, and Borders).

They each will get another 6 gifts, ski goggles, CDs, flannel pajamas, DD is getting the Pillow Paws:confused3, etc. I try to keep the total under $250 each.

One "big" present from their dad and me. One from Santa. One from their uncle. One from each of their grandma's. One from a family friend. And a stocking full of things like glittery Christmas pencils, socks, maybe a book... I don't know whether to count the stocking as one present or six. :confused3

But it's all good! Neither of the kids have ever suggested to us that they feel hard done by, or their friends get more, or any such thing. I'm sure they know their dad well enough to know that that sort of behaviour wouldn't lead to anything nice. :lmao:

I should have mentioned that the extended family also buys gifts for both kids, so they get another 10 or more from them. And, DD's father goes WAY OVERBOARD with her and has a complete Xmas at his house as well and then his extended family too. She gets far too much but she is the kind of kid that is grateful and appreciates everything.

I'm not sure that DS's father even has his address this year so he probably didn't even get a Christmas card. In previous years before he left home, his grandmother wrote him a $25 check (as she did for all her grandchildren) and his Dad usually took him to the Mall and let him pick something out.

Yeah, its hard to have two children who are treated so differently by their fathers and DS definately got burned with the Dad I "picked" for him:sad2:

I am sitting here wrapping presents and I counted their presents - they are each getting 15  When I started shopping I was sure that I was not going to go overboard. Now some presents are only $5, but other presents are $100!! So I was wondering how many presents will each kid get under the tree Christmas morning?

We don't have kids but my brother and I have always gotten Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than 15 each. I don't think you went overboard at all. We were poor growing up so we didn't get anything during the year. My parents saved all year and got us everything for Christmas using layaway, so I'm sure the number of gifts under our tree always seemed insane to other people. We usually got at least 30 each, and then the stocking stuffers. All but one or two items were from Santa. The other one or two were from mom and dad.

I think my mom may have gotten more than 15 gifts even for my husband this year, then add all the things I got him and who know how many he has. LOL!

I haven't counted, but I did a rough estimate in my head. I'd say each of my kids is getting about 15 from DH and me and about 15 or so from Santa. So, 30ish total? I didn't include stocking stuffers (CDs, DVDs, little toys) in that total. I also didn't include books (I always get 5-10 books for each of them and leave them spread out under the tree on Christmas morning). We always have done Christmas big in our family, so this is what we love to do. :) My kids don't get much from other family members though.

I dont think we have everything wrapped at this point, but I think they are probably getting 14 -15 each - counting from us and from Santa.

There are also a couple of gifts for both of them as well not counted in the # above.

Based on the rough math my wife did each kid had about $250 or so spent on them....so while there are a lot of gifts, many of them arent that much.

The most expensive gifts are an XBOX360 game for $59 (which actually came with a $20 TRU gift card for us to use so the true cost was about $39) and a collection of all the 39 clues books for $65 or so for 1 of them and a $40 walking go go pup dog for another along with a doll house / furniture that we paid about $60 for (prior to using the $20 gift card from the Xbox game!).

There are lots of $10 - $25 gifits including DVDs, some smaller lego sets, baby doll clothes, Zhu Zhu pets, more books and Nintendo DS games which make up most of their stuff. Buying stuff we find on clearance or very good sales helps to keep the cost down and still give them lots of things they wanted.

We always end up with more than we think, since we tend to shop throughout the year, but before too much longer they'll be grown and only want gift cards or clothes so we figure we'll enjoy the fun of Christmas as much as we can while they are younger.

I haven't started wrapping yet but I'm sure it's way more than I planned on and way more than we budgeted. I do it every year.:rolleyes1 Luckily DH never gets mad at me.

Our kids are getting about 4 things each, that includes the money DH and I will give them to go shopping. They get one thing from 2 sets of
aunts and uncles, that is it.

I can't imagine buying 15 gift for my kids. Than again that would be 45 things. I just won't spend that type of money. . But hey, what ever floats your boat. But not me.

Wow, I am really feeling sorry for my kids now! They've never gotten more than 6 or 7 gifts each from us (Santa used to bring 3 of those each when they were younger) and don't get gifts from aunts/uncles. They do each get a little money from grandparents and buy something for each other Also, nothing they're getting this year is expensive. We do have stockings where they each get 8 to 10 small items.

each kid gets 8 gifts:

1 to read
1 to wear
1 to watch
1 to play
1 to share

and 3 Santa gifts (because Jesus was brought 3 gifts)

I'm feeling sorry for my daughter, too. She's only getting 6 gifts from me and that's if your count the camera and strap as 2 things.

Well, I guess I went WAY overboard.

To date, DD has 29 gifts to unwrap. Two are from myself and DH and the rest are from Santa. OH, and she has her stocking, but those are all smaller items and candy, so that doesn't count.

To be fair, I started shopping in the VERY beginning of October when DH lost his job, because I thought spreading it out would be easier on our budget. But, I think shopping THAT far in advance put me at a disadvantage, because I guess I felt like I should buy some each pay check!!! And again, price wise, I really didn't spend THAT much.

DD has gotten REALLY in to cooking, grilling and baking recently, so a lot of her stuff are neat little kitchen gadgets that aren't that expensive.

I am completely finishing up her shopping today, so, looks like she will have a grand total of 41 gifts to open. Let me say this, 7 of those gifts are either gifts that she can enjoy with the family (Wii games and controllers) or gifts for her and DH (remote control tanks with laser tag) and even just myself and her (Wii Epic Mickey).

The kids only get one each from us. But then they get presents from Santa, the dog, the cats and now the latest member of our household .... the baby chick! :rotfl: And a stocking each from Santa. They also get gifts from school friends, family members etc., so they get plenty.

I only have one DD but from DH and I she is prob getting about 10-15 things, santa brings 3-5 things. I shopped for my parents, in laws and SIL so that's another 10 gifts there.

growing up Christmas was a HUGE event and it was not unusual for my brother and I to get 25-35 gifts each.

Ours each have 4 gifts under the tree, plus small stocking stuffers.

It's way easier to have lots of gifts for the younger kids. DS' number of gifts has steadily shrunk as he's gotten older because the stuff he wants is so much more expensive now! He has six items and that doesn't count the blue ray player that I got for him during BF.

41?! That must take forever to open!

LOL, I know I'm not the one you were replying too but it's true! It takes a long time and even longer when the family wants each person to open in turns so we can all see each person opening each item. So it's like ok, mom opens one and we watch, then dad opens one and we watch, then bro, then me, then hubby and so on. We usually start around 5:30am or 6:00am and finish around 10:00am-10:30am! :rotfl2:
