How Many Ponchos: An Alegbra Question

Silly question - We will be at WDW for 8 days (6/10-6/17). We plan to wear ponchos on Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids plus during rainy days. There are two adults and 4 yo DD and 9 yo DD. The Dollar Store has ponchos for 50 cents each.

How many ponchos should we take?

I would get two per person. That way if they get ruined you have a spare.

seriously, you don't get that wet on Splash mountain...maybe a few drips if that...people will look at you funny if you wear ponchos on Splash mountain...I'm not sure how much ponchos will help on Kali river rapids either b/c the water splashes all around and under your seat...you bum gets all wet regardless of plastic you may have covering you! Of course this is only my opinion and can be tossed out if you don't agree!

I would suggest taking a maybe a change of clothes or wearing clothes that dry quickly for the days you will ride splash mountain or Kali river rapids. Put the wet clothes in a bag and rent a locker if you have to...OR have them sent back to your room via guest services...we did that once!

I packed 3 ponchos for each of us. For an 8 day trip. I only actually brought them to the park on one day that was forcasted to have afternoon t-storms.

They did NOTHING to actually protect us from the torrential downpours that occured that day. We were drenched to the bone, and the owrst part was our sneakers. The rainstorm was Thursday, our sneakers are still drying out today. I suggest you quickly find a dry restaurant, and stay there until the rain passes.

I always wear a poncho on Splash Mountain! And you can get very wet on that ride it is definately more than a few drips. I wear one on Kali also and unless you are on the recieving end of the giant waterfall of water it keeps you reasonably dry. Just make sure it is under your behind before you sit down on either ride. You can look at me any way you want but I am not walking around wet and uncomfortable for hours. You will not be alone other people wear them, I even used a trash bag once when I forgot the ponchos.

WE bought the ponchos at WDW and have used them for 3 trips now. We paid a little more but they have now paid for themselves. Last summer we took a side trip into Orlando and went to Supertarget--they had ponchos for $3.95. They are exactly the same as the ones sold at WDW(minus Mickey on the back).

I didn't go on Splash Mountain but my DH and DD did it and they didn't get very wet but I did see people in ponchos and I also saw people come off REALLY wet. As to Kali, I don't like to walk around wet so I was the only one on the raft who put on a poncho and I still got soaked. All the water came down on my side and it went right down the microscopic gap around my neck and staight down my back. I was the wettest person on the raft.

So, I say wear the poncho and cross your fingers.

The last time I went, I brought ponchos from home. They were good becasue they were a different color than every one else and they were easy to pack. BUT, they were very thin and didn't really do a good job at keeping the kids dry. The WDW ones are better at that. Besides if you are going to be there for 8 days, you might want ones that won't let you down.

I rode Splash twice and my dd eight times and we never got more than drops of water on us which dried up fast in the Florida sun. You can get soaked on Kali. To me, that was the fun of it and, on a hot day, you'll dry out fast. To be honest, several people in the line were saying about the people in ponchos, "what's the point of riding Kalir River Rapids if you're going to wear a poncho?" I'd have to agree with that. I'd only take one for each of you.

I was on Kali in hot July sun and I was still wet for more than an hour. Not to mention the fact that I looked like I had pee'd my pants. It was not fun at all.

The WDW ponchos are a lot thicker and in the rain kept us totally dry. In fact while everyone else was seeking shelter we marched on and did several rides in a pretty short period of time. If you check your local Target or Walmart you might be able to find ponchos of similar quality and save a buck or two.

Our Walmart has a medium weight poncho for $3 in the sporting goods section. The medium weight ones are the same as the WDW ones. They fold up pretty small and will fit in a ziplock bag. That said, we're going to try the disposable poncho thing and if we get soaked (we're going in June, when it often downpours in the afternoon!), we'll use the WDW ponchos we were given by my SIL. Heck, at 50¢ each, buy a pair of the disposable ones and have the kids try them on the next rainy day. See how wet they get puddle jumping in the yard!

We actually use our WDW ponchos when camping and traveling. They do a good job of keeping us dry.

We have an assortment of about 15 from WDW now. I'm actually pretty good at remembering to bring them with now . We have reused them many, many times and they keep us dry for the most part during those 10 minute monsoons. As for Kali, I would rather have a wet bottom than be soaked from head to toe. SM is hit or miss, but we seem to get hit more times than missed. Think of the WDW ponchos as insurance policies, if you buy them more than likely you'll only need them for 10 minutes and won't need them the rest of your trip

Depending on the time of year, I would say: bring 3 per person. I was so glad I had one last October - caught in a torrential downpour with Hurricane Wilma. The others in our party had to shell out the $7 or $8 bucks for a WDW poncho, but mine only cost 69 cents! They didn't keep us completely dry (the rain was going sideways!) but mine kept me just as dry as the more expensive ones did. Plus, they're so small, they tuck very easily into a fanny pack or pocket (the WDW ones are quite bulky, and don't fold down after use very easily). To me, one of the benefits of the cheap ones is that they're disposable! I just threw mine away after I'd used mine.

I've always bought either the Disney ponchos or ones from home. I'm tired of lugging them around though, so next trip I'm bringing the Dollar Store cheapies to use and throw out. I'm also picking up umbrellas there to carry...

I brought a bunch. Every day I packed a new one for each of us in the stroller and one spare. We used them on Kali and to cover our stroller when it rained. It rained alot when we were there in January. It was nice to throw them out if I didn't feel like folding them up again.

If you tuck the poncho under your bum on Kali, you don't get wet.

I would take 4 for each of you. You can save them for the next trip or give them to another family on your last day.

I always bring along a small Ziploc type sandwich baggie to put the wet poncho into. Nothing worse than having a poncho keep you dry and then putting it into your fanny pack, purse or bag and having it get everything else wet! Then you can hang it up in the closet overnight and let it dry out to reuse the next day. I usually take at least 2 per person.
