How Many Points Have You "Downsized"?

170 points here and happy with that whenever I have to pay annual dues. Sometimes I wish we had more, but we'll make do with what we have.

No plans to sell.

I bought 210 OKW points via resale in 2000. I declined the extension to 2057, in 2042 I'll be 80, and DVC/Disney will probably be the least of my concern!

I've often fought the urge to buy more points and now that my son is 15 and how we use DVC is changing I can foresee that the 210 will do us just fine, so I wont have to face the need for downsizing!

Here is the info on ROFR for OKW. See post #167 for the most recent chart. Clearly shows OKW is the most bought back resort as of late.

At this time two years ago we had 585 points at VWL & OKW. Right now we have 210 at OKW.

We had 700 over 4 contracts at BCV and SSR. We are down to one contract for 200 at BCV. We will probably add more back when DH and I can travel more. Right now we have teens who have very busy schedules and we just can't get there for more than a week a year right now.

Started in 1996 with 230 OKW points...gradually bought more points thru Disney and resale at OKW,Vero & HHI. Had maxed out at 910. Just added a 150 pt resaleat HHI.....Planning for winter retirement stays...very seldom go to the parks. Paid cash for all, know the dues are not low, but don't want to buy a retirement home in one place and the upkeep/taxes for one of them aren't low either. We are VERY spoiled by the quality of our DVC resorts and always enjoy visiting with other guests....which you very seldom find at other resorts.

Thought it would be interesting to see how many owners have sold off some of their points they acquired over the years. We bought in 2007. Purchased a total of 464 pts. over four resorts. Over the last year we have downsized 224 pts. over 2 resorts. Our family dynamics have changed where my adult children don't have as much vacation time. How much have you downsized and why?

Hi. :wave2:
I am resurrecting this 1 1/2 year old thread because my question is the same as the original post. I know many others will be interested too. Thanks.

We haven't downsized but our family is seriously considering buying a home on HHI, and if that happens, we will sell our 142 HHI points.

We down sized from 350 point to 100 points for a similar reason. We used the down sizing to purchase a ski villa. It was a hard decison but resale on the ski villa will be much better then DVC points. Plus, 100 points still gives me a week at Disney in a studio and the Ski Villa is only about 1 hour from our home and use all weeks in the winter and a few in the summer. I guess it was a win win

We did buy contracts at SSR & BLT over the years, but have sold those off and are back to 100 points at BWV. We found that the more points we owned, the more trips we made. Hopefully, this will help us stop spending as much $ in order to retire to Florida in another 10 years.

It's neat to see member's evolution of ownership over the years... DVC Mike, for example. We haven't downsized, but were glad others did!

Still have the same 250 BWV points I bought in 1999. If I could go back, I would have bought 2 separate contracts, 150 and 100. Then I would have sold the 100 and bought 100 VGC. I thought about an add-on when VGC opened but it wasn't worth the extra money on top of the 250 I have. So far I'm 3 for 3 at 7 months so it's been a good decision.

Fun thread. Thanx for resurrecting it. We initially bought in 1993 when our girls were 11 and 9, a OKW contract for 190 points. We've now come full circle and are taking our young grand kiddos. We've added on multiple times, all at OKW and currently have 635 points in two use years. We have not, nor do I see us downsizing any time soon. Our oldest grandchild is now school-age, so we have to plan around his schedule which means traveling at "high point' times. I pray our health will hold out and we will be able to go to WDW for years to come.

We have 700 points (50, 100, 250 and 300) all purchased in 2001 and all the same use year, and all at BCV. We basically travelled once a year with the family but now they all have families of there own. We still go once a year and stay in a one bedroom unit until the points are used up. We do provide accommodations if any of the kids and grandkids wish to go but with everything going on in there life, that’s not every year.
Grandma and I are in our mid 70’s and we have started give some thought of down sizing over the next few years.

We originally bought 200 BWV points in 2000. We added on multiple times at different resorts and eventually owned 570 points total. Now that our kids are adults, we are looking at selling two of our contracts bringing us to down to 405 points. We'll see how we do with that, and maybe even drop another contract in another year or so. I don't think we will ever get rid of all of them, but you never know.:confused3

Funny to reread my post after so long! We did go ahead and sell our two HH contracts back in 2012, so we did go from 570 to 405. Some days I am glad that I did, but most days I wish I didn't. Won't be selling those 405 anytime in the near future!
