Genuinely curious how many points most people have on these boards. I think we can all pretty much assume the actual average likely lies somewhere between 150-200; however, I think most of us on here are afflicted with addonitis or at least have been in the past so let's see which of us have been afflicted the worst and which of us actually have self control :P

If you asked me last year at this time is was only 130.
I sold the 30 pt contract and bought 60 at VGF, bc it’s my favorite. So I was at 160. Planned to stay there for a bit, at least until Poly 2.
Then, the summer incentives happened. I bought 150pts at VGF, fully expecting to sell my resale 100 pt contract. So I’m sitting at 310 and kind of like it. Now, we are going to keep the 100pt resale contract to do Aulani every few years or get bigger rooms as the kids get older.

This is the way.

I am at 180 and expect to be at between 340 to 380 by the end of 2024. I will either buy a resale BLT contract or direct at Poly2.

Currently at 475 and browsing. Maybe some more resale if I see a perfect match. Maybe some Poly2 if it’s a new association.

Let’s say 4000 points at OKW (Ext) or AUL for $90pp. So $360,000 for 3-4 months a year in a one bedroom villa and then around $38,000 in dues that would replace property tax and maintenance on a vacation home.

That’s not a bad snowbird plan…
Nailed it! We have a wonderful little cabin in the Sierras but good god if it isn't expensive to keep up. Just plopped down $24K for a new driveway and then two months later got my $13K bill for insurance. Insurance quote because of the fire danger is more than 2% of the entire value of the property.

First contract was 220 points (AKV resale), followed quickly by a 160 point AKV resale contract. Last year, we added 200 direct at Riviera for a grand total of 580 points.

I really wanted to add another 150-200 during this summer's incentives, but decided to wait until fall 2024 to add on any more because of other priorities.

Zero now… but in my prime DVC years it fluctuated between 1250 and 2000.
Never rented a point, never let one go to waste.
Our resorts were VWL, AKL, VB, VGC.

Sold mostly due to impending job loss, but would have found a way to keep them if Disney didn’t turn in the direction they did.

It's not a bad plan but if that's the plan we're entertaining, then I'm not sure the "DVC premium" is worth it.

For about $160K upfront I can buy 13 resale 2BR Ocean View weeks at Marriott's Ko Olina. That gives me 3 months in a 2BR with an ocean view anytime of the year (weeks 51/52 may cost an extra $10K upfront to buy) with annual dues of around $36K ($2750/week). And at current interest rates, the $200K savings vs the "DVC retirement plan" can generate an extra ~$10K/year to cover the airfare for 4-6 people. :-)

DVC certainly has its advantages and own atmosphere, but if I were someone with 3-4 months of time on their hands to travel each year (i.e., retiree), I may actually prefer the fewer children running around at a Marriott resort and the extra space for extended family to join. Or maybe I just use the 1BR and rent off the lockoff studios and reduce my annual dues by 50%-60%.

I feel like in general if you don't need to be staying on Disney property, almost any other option would make more financial sense. The benefit with DVC in general is it holds a certain amount of credibility in the timeshare world compared to pretty much any other timeshare and has held value. If you prefer the accommodations/length of contract and booking process of another timeshare and don't care about it being Disney then another one is almost certainly better.

Idk, I know my partner and I definitely drink the Disney kool aid or else we wouldn't be DVC members. Something about a mickey shaped waffle tastes better than one that's not mickey shaped :P

It’s always amazed me… let’s say you own 400 points. Enough for a one bedtime once a year for a week.
You pay $3000 a year in dues for one year… and you own a week?? That’s $150,000 a year for mtc, and utilities. And that’s for 800sq Ft.
Do you pay that much at home???
I have a nice house in Florida, but my utilities, mtc, so forth is less than 1/10 that amount.

ETA: And I maintain my house better than DVC.

Totally agree - on behalf of my kids too... That's we bought this to take with us to our Marriott stays as well! Well worth what it uses up of the checked-luggage weight allowance.
