:jumping1: Just got my call from Jaki with my approval for 250 points at VWL.
I have never even been to the lodge, but I have always wanted to stay there. I'm already thinking that I should have gotten more points and am glad to hear about the new addon incentives from DVC. I was just curious what the average point total was for most members. I am also curious how many of you have bought points with the express purpose of renting them.
Looking forward to our first trip home this fall!

Congratulations. We worked with Jaki and she was great.

We have enough points to stay for a couple of weeks during school vacation periods at a DVC every year. We have added on a few times but never with the sole intention of renting. We rented a lot of points last year to pay for our cruise that is coming up fast in 45 days. We will probably do that again in a couple more years.

Here's an interesting post (Link) that has a lot on the number of points that people own.

I have 150. I am a new member, haven't made the 1st DVC trip yet. So too soon for add on fever to hit yet!

210 at BW here - original contract 185 - 25 point add on recently - want more already but my piggy bank says NO! DH says yes though, that's a start!

New member here, just purchased 160 points at BWV, already thinking of adding on :cool1: see ya all at disney

So, for those of you that use more than you own, what is your typical method of covering your trip? Banking and splurging every other year, or renting extra needed as you go? I'm just trying to figure out the most common way points are used. In my case, 250 should cover a 1BR for a week that we decide to go. But what if we want to stay for 2 weeks? Or go twice a year? Should I rent the extra? Is renting points really cost effective?
:earsboy:

400 Total

200 OKW, 100 Vero, 100 BCV

But we are thinking about adding another 200.

Welcome home, neighbor. We also bought our points from Jaki. We've never rented them out -- too selfish!! So far we have 350 points, all at VWL, but are actively searching to add on some more at OKW.

230 at VWL that we've had since 2001. We would love to buy more, but those annual dues kill me!

200+70+30+50=350 all at BWV and wishing I had more!

200 at SSR and it's not enough. I'll be adding on soon! I would have already added on, but real life gets in the way and I'll be picking up my new Honda Odyssey on Friday! :cool1:

We wanted 270 but then decided to go resale and bought a 230 pt contract for BWV. We have since decided that 230 or even 270, is no where near enough points and are planning to add 150 more at BWV!

We are now at 940

582 - OKW
225 - WLV
133 - BWV

Would like to get a few more BWV points sometime in the future.

We have 175 at BCV, but 1 month after we closed I found out I was pregnant. So far it's been OK, but I think we need to add another 100-150. We banked a whole years points because the baby was born in June (June's our UY) so when my youngest DD turned 1 we rented a 2 brm & took the inlaws too. Our plan was to splurge every other year and then so a studio the other times. We'd like to do the 7 night cruise in 2 yrs from now, but may need to pay for the kids. 175 is what we could afford at the time. My DH said it was the best decision he ever made. (If you knew my DH, that means a lot!)

::MinnieMo After doing the DVC tour in December 2003 (on the day we were flying back to London, so time was tight) we bought 225 points, enough for 2 weeks in a studio in May at SSR. On the way home we discussed it and decided we wanted double that so we could stay in a 1 bedroom instead of a studio, so as soon as we got home we called our guide and upped it to 450 (225 x2 as we were advised smaller contracts are more flexible)

I wish we had done the tour earlier in our 2 week visit, we really left it until the last minute as we did not expect to join. It was frustrating going home not even having driven over to DTD to gaze at SSR construction from across the lake!

450 points is enough for us now, but as DD gets older or if we have another child we will need to increase to get bigger accomodations and to book peak season weeks because of school holidays, which don't effect us right now as she is just 21 months. As we live in England short trips are not cost effective, a 2 or 3 week trip is more usual and practical.

However many we have I expect I would want more!!!
