How many points are needed for a cruise?

Just wondering how many DVC points are needed for cruises? I'm assuming it depends on the accommodations - we have 5 in our family.

At this time the points are very high for a cruise. I don't have the charts here, but generally, you can rent points for $9-10, pay for the cruise and put a bunch of cash in your pocket.

We've cruised on points. You're often better off paying cash for the kids and using points for the adults.

The point cost of a cruise varies according to many factors - length of cruise, date of cruise, stateroom category and number of adults & children and ages of the children.

For example, a 3 night cruise departing March 13, 2003 (regular seasons) in a cat 8 (deluxe, ocean view stateroom) is 117 points each for the first two people in the cabin. After that, children 2 and under are 15 points, children 3-12 are 53 points and all others (13 and over) in the same cabin are 60 points. I am not familar enough with the Disney ships to know if any of the cat 8 cabins will sleep 5.

Using points to cruise is a "way out of line" and keeps getting worse.We booked ours(4 day) with cash for Feb 2004, and it was much cheaper. We are not renting our pts though.....we would rather use them ourselves later.

We're scheduled to cruise on the Magic in less than 1 wk (leaving in 4.5 days). If we dont cruise we're looking at loosing 318pts (cat 10, SPR) Hopefully all will be well with this weeks cruise.

to cruise during president's week there wasn't much difference.

$4700 for 3 of us in a cat 6 thru a TA

vs approx 510 points.

so if I rent them that's an extra $400 in my pocket but a lot of hassles ie the renting 11 mos out and making sure it works

I think an offweek from a cash standpoint, ie the week after president's week which was about $3200 it makes more sense to pay cash

Thats exactly why we picked the week after Presidents week in 2004.We got a catagory 6 with full veranda for 2 adults(4 day cruise) for $1700 for 2 adults.It was a lot less for going 1 week later. Using pts DVC wanted 360 pts .

With a family of 5, you will need to book either a category 4 cabin, or two lower category adjoining cabins. If booking two cabins, you have to figure points for two adults per cabin (whether they are adults or not). Diana
