Just a little survey..... Looking to add pts to my portfolio, We currently have 600pts scattered between 3 resorts. Might be looking to add on at BLT or the Grand Floridian..... How many pts are enough ?? What is the number of pts that you have and do you feel you have enough ??? Thanks

Enough points are when you can't/don't want to pay the MF. That number is 125 for me :goodvibes

However, that number is different for everyone depending what they will use. 600 is huge compared to me, but if you use/need that much then who is to say what is too many or to little.

We too started out with 150 and yes ur right every family is different. At the time of original purchase(1997) we were a family of 3 now we are 5 and the studios are no longer gd for us. This summer we have a 2 bdrm at BCV for 7 nts.... over 300 pts!!!.... pts go really quick

Currently have 345 but looking to get to 500 at some point.
DW and I are wanting enough points to stay at least 2 - 5 nights per month.

Started with 150 (BWV), then added 80 (BLT) and another 65 (VGF) for a total of 295. We'll be good for a while. But ultimately, I'd like another 80-100 BWV so we can bump our 10-day F&W trips up to a 1 bedroom.

Our family of three includes a teenage son. We have bumped to 400 from our initial 100 purchase and looking to add 50 to 100 more next year. We wanted enough points to go once a month for a weekend for 9-10 months and a 4-5 night trip as well. Now we are moving toward the 1 bedroom due to privacy issues for everyone!

I agree that the the MF's are a huge factor in deciding when enough's enough. I have 160 points and that is enough for us. We are able to go to WDW every other year and stay in a 1BR or we can go every year in a studio. I love how flexible DVC is and, for us, that means flexibility with going someplace else every once in a while (gasp!).

Well, we were up to 300 but now are on our way to 200. We LOVE going to WDW but decided our points were spread out at too many resorts. We owned BLT, VWL, BCV and BWV. We just closed on our BWV contract and the VWL is in ROFR now. We are a family of three with a 6 year old and always get studios. I hope to get 100 Poly points when they come out which will hopefully be soon - I don't know how long we can go on only 200 points a year.

So true how everybody has their own plan and story of what they are looking from DVC. I guess thats what makes it so great.... MFs are definitely a big factor on whether we move forward with another add on..... gotta remember they just keep going up.

We have 425 (200 OKW, 125 HH and 100 AKV) and it's still not enough. MIL and FIL use some of our points (supposed to be 100/year, but now it's more like 120-145 since they like a 1BR). We are always in borrowing mode. We've also used our points for SIL twice (one free trip 12/2011 and this next trip, 12/2013, she's renting for $8pp). I would like more HH points and some BCV or BWV points. I think 600 would be a nice amount...though I should disclose that, a few months ago, I responded on a similar thread when we only had 275 points (or 375...was around the time we were adding the 100 AKV) and said that 400 would be enough....ha!

We have 3 teens and someday we plan to give them our DVC...when they are grown and married. We need something that's easily dividable and right now we're not there. Was thinking 150 each kid, but the 200 OKW June UY (all othe contracts are Aug UY) contract messes that up...now I am thinking 200 per kid, but not sure DH would agree to that plan (he keeps telling me "no more points"...booo!!!).

Easy...

Number of points required for one week...multiply by 52

:)

We have 290 right now all at SSR because its our favorite! We would like to end up somewhere between 600-700 pts so we can do our 11-15 nights twice a year in a 1 bdrm or a long summer stay in a 2 bdrm or treehouse and invite friends. We are a family of three.

That's kind of a loaded question and depends on how you feel you have to use them. We only own 250 points and although I've often had the bug to buy more points we've honestly been fine working with our 250 and our annual dues are still reasonable with that many. That's enough points for 2 weeks a year in studios which suits us fine as I don't cook or do laundry on vacation. The idea of cooking and eating our meals "in" (beyond a quick breakfast) is not a vacation to me so I don't need a full kitchen. I also have no desire to fold laundry on vacation. Every 2 or 3 years or so we do something different for one trip (like a DCL or something) and then we have a few points leftover to bank. So this summer for example we had enough points (incl. 60 that were banked) to go to VGC for 4 nights and Aulani in an OV studio for 7 nights (a total of 11 nights) and only had to borrow 3 points. Last year we had 6 nights at BLT over spring break and 9 nights at BWV in August by using up banked points that were left from where we went to Europe & did a Med DLC the year before. As long as I can plan these types of trips (using them at point intensive resorts like VGC and Aulani) working with only 250 points I think we'll sit tight on what we have.:thumbsup2

We had 500 at three resorts. Now have 325 at two resorts. Hated all the money going to DVC each month.

Love your Signature Bill and Deb, totally feel the same way, stopped drinking the kool aid a long time ago also.... That being said I just always feel like we dont have enough pts.... Just saying

150 and its actually too many. We only go every other year and really only need about four or five nights now.

This depends on so many factors........

A studio isn't big enough for our family. We are limited to certain resort 1 bedrooms.

On the other hand, we drive a long distance and like to stay longer. The amount of points we have is fine, but because we prefer to stay longer, we stay in 1 bedrooms. Is that clear as mud?????

We currently have 290 points, started at 160 at SSR, added another 25 at SSR, and then added 105 at AKV. Right now that's the exact right amount, but with us planning for a little one, and family liking to use our DVC on occaision we are planning to add 110 more whenever Poly DVC happens to bring us to an even 400.
