How many people know the date they found the DIS?

"Wacky Nova Scotia" LOL I was one of the folks who followed her over from the Official Disney boards. I remember some of the "dirt" about that whole event...

I found it a few months ago-on my older brother's birthday. Though I have no idea how I found the Dis, it was probably through a search on Disney and resprt hotels.

I came to the DIS in Dec. of 1997. We were planning a family trip to WDW (Jan. 1) and I was going to meet my first grandchild for the first time. To say that I was a little excited is an understatement. We all stayed at the WL and yes CC.........that was the trip that Meggan had her now famous Whispering Canyon encounter.

I was Figment1 then, but had to change my name when I re-registered after the great crash of '99.

And as others that have been here a long time have posted, it was just one board and Pete posted quite often.

I "met" CC that spring and I can't believe it took 4 years to finally meet her in person at Discon last year. What a special moment that was.

I could get the exact date if I pulled out some old Disney stuff, but it was mid-July 1998.

We were supposed to go on one of the first Disney cruises and it was cancelled because the ship was not ready. Instead, we made ressies for a week at WL. OMG......we fell in love with the place and had a very memorable vacation. Funny how things can all happen for a reason!

Anyway, it was about the first day that we were home from this trip that I found the DIS!!

Found the Dis in the fall of 99. would visit once and a while. Did not register until the end of February 2000.

It was mid-summer 1998 I was actually looking for information to take my DD to Disneyland for her 4th Birthday (she will be 9 this year). I found the Boards, lurked for about a minute and never left. My first post was actually answered by you CC, Pete, Candie and Wilderness.

Do you remember the poems I used to write??

I think I became a Moderator on one of the first (non-original) Boards. 'Trip Reports'

I also remember posting on this board all day just trying to get people to talk.

I found a wonderful home and many friends on the IB during that time. I remember when you first posted Snoops!!

I found the DIS in May of 1999 I believe. We were planning our 5 year anniversary trip and had booked thru AAA. I found the DIS and cancelled that booking and saved ALOT of money!

Once I found the boards, I was hooked. I thought that after our trip I wouldn't need to come back but I couldn't stay away and ended up planning another trip the following year because of the REWARDS I was able to earn.

Once you're in......you're stuck!!!!!!!!!!

LOL Steve, not sure. I had a hard time getting past the initial thought that this report was "for her boys to have for the memories" and then she proceeded to trash their grandmother in the next paragraph.

How did you get through the pre-trip planning stage of the report and all the suffering of the poster (or should I say reader) associated therewith. Then the drive down. . . .zzzz. . . .(I hope I'm remembering the report correctly). . .who could forget the lava cake. . .and the zillions of replies to replies. . .

Maybe it was the long, cold winter that caused all of JNS' problems. . .(no offense to our other Canadian friends )

I remember Kaa coming on board, Candie, Ahnalira, Wilderness, Kelsie, were later, and the ever affable Brer Dragon--what a guy--and his fun games/lists--so many people I can't begin to remember them all. I remember thinking very early on that only two or three people posted EVERYTHING because they posted so often and it felt like a closed society. I'm glad I stuck it out. I don't post a great deal but enjoy the reading--God gave us 2 ears and one mouth you know. . .So much reading over the years and so much fun. . .

I remember when you won the contest for the Caribe Royale and I remember you (because I always liked your name!). Remember the Trivia Challenge? That was some fun!! Some people took that really seriously! Ah, the good ol' days!

It was right after I came back from my very first trip to Orlando and paid WAY too much! I did a search the day I got back and found the Universal side of the DIS boards. That was back in August of 1999.

I do remember the trivia challenges--the Friday fun things--and the great cassettes Dragon made for everyone that wanted one! He'd add a personal statement to the person he was making it for. What fun. . .

That Caribe trip win couldn't have come at a better time for us! I had a really rough fall, physically and emotionally and it was just the "things are looking up" boost I needed just afer January 1! We had a terrific time (my husband and I) in October for our anniversary, after taking a great family time trip in June.

I do agree. . .that was a trip report to end all and that's saying something because mine have been known to deal in minutiae too!

BTW, I've always liked "Tess" too--it's not my name, but a nickname given to me by a high school guidance counselor--he said it suited me more than my real name--always took that as a compliment. It makes me think of Tess of the d'Urbervilles. . .not that I'm anything like that!
