Hi: How many can fit together in AO? I can't remember the seat config... can my DH, DS5, DS3 all ride together? They managed to squeeze in at Disneyland, but not sure how WDW's seating is. Are they any requirements? Thanks!

Two people can fit in one ship, one behind the other. There are no other real requirements. There is only a loose safety strap to pull across your waist. Astro Orbiter is wheelchair/ECV accessible, but you must be able to transfer out and get into the ride vehicle.

As the other poster indicated, only two fit. It is a very tight fit. My DH and I did NOT fit together in the same rocket. He is very tall (6'5") and I would consider us medium sized but not pooh sized (I've lost weight since - yea! :) ). Anyway ... one child and one adult should fit but not both.

But now I will tell you -- I think it is the most frightening ride I have ever been on in my life. :scared1: I felt like I would fall out. I don't think I would let a 3 year old on it -- it is very HIGH up! Now this horrible fear is coming from someone who rides any roller coaster -- those ones that go straight up and straight down - I LOVE THEM ... but I will NEVER EVER EVER ride Astro Orbiter again. I lost a year of my life on that ride ... plus another year WAITING to board it. Very slow boarding.

I know there are others that love it and DH rides it still ... but maybe someone else will tell you whether it is appropriate for children the age of yours. I think it is a little too frightening. I'd rather get the same "effect" riding the Magic Carpets (or Dumbo but less of a line at Magic Carpets).

Edited to say: I re-read your post and apparently they have ridden it at DL -- is it up as high as at WDW??? Maybe your children are more fearless than me ... ha ha ha ... have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you serious??? I've never rode Astro-Orbiter, because I thought it would be lame. Is it really scary? Or do you scare easily?

if you arent a fan of heights it sure is. especially at night.

oh the things i do for my son:scared1:

The Astro Orbitor In DL,if I remember correctly, is NOT high up like the one in WDW!

My kids realized there was a ride on top of the People Mover last year, and have asked my husband several times to take them up there to fly in a rocket ship, he has declined each time telling them its way too high up to go on. I won't even go on Dumbo, Alladin or the Dino's in AK ... there is no way I would get up the courage for the Astro Orbitor!

My sister and brother in law took their kids on it last year(after much begging and pleading to go on the ride) and they were 4 and 5 at the time, both her kids are daredevils and the faster the better ... both boys came off asking my sister why she MADE THEM go on such a scarey ride? :scared1: She said she was afraid she was going to fall out of the rocket! So now when my kids ask to ride it, I remind them that their cousins said it was really scarey ... that is all they need to hear.

IME, yes they should fit depending on the size of your DH. A couple of years ago a cast member put my DH, myself and my DD (then 3) in one rocket. It was tight and the next time we requested two rockets but I don't see why one adult with two small kids would not fit. :confused3

Not to hijack this thread about how many fit in a rocket ... but I do not scare easily. Rock & Roller Coaster -- rode twice in a row - love coasters -- ToT - I kept thinking WHEN is the big drop (the ride was over!). I think most of the coasters are WDW are very fun but tame.

Why was I soooo scared of Astro?? I think it was the height AND the fact your not really harnessed in. I just had this sinking feeling that I was going to fall out!!! Good thing I had to ride alone -- I did not make the rocket go up much!! :)

I know no one has fallen out -- at least not that I have seen - (ha ha) but I have talked to others and they said the same thing. Sooo one of those attractions that is not for me. DH likes it still - but man the wait to get there is horrible!!

Actually, going up would have helped. My wife and brother in law went on this last week and discovered that when your rocket is lower there's a lot of centrifical (I think that's right) force pushing you sideways, but because of the angle, you can't feel it nearly as much when you go up.

The sides on the rocket are pretty high up and I don't think there's any chance of anyone getting pushed out the side, but you can definitely be pushed against it when the rocket is lower.

It's kind of a cute ride, but I'm not sure any real thrill ride people would like it much... it's certainly not worth waiting more than 5 or 10 minutes for.

I know, I do not want to ride it either!! I hate circular/spinning rides, that's why I was hoping DH could fit with both kids (they barely managed in at DL, and then I had to ride to other times...)

Last trip, my DH said he remembered the ride as a kid being terrifying, like you were going to fall out! BUt my almost 3yo wanted to ride, and they did and it was fine. My DS5 did not want to, but now after DL, he loves it! I am hoping maybe when he remembers how high it is he'll change his mind and I won't have to go!

Good tip about staying high, I will try that! UGH!

Regarding fitting in the rocket, they put my (200 lb) dh, myself (5 mo. pregnant), as well as my dd5 in one rocket. It was an extrememly tight fit- I would never go in the same rocket as my dh again. I can't even remember anything else about the ride- I was so uncomfortably squished the whole time. But I would think that an adult and two small kids would be OK.

Three small adult people can cram in the ride, so an adult and two kids should be fine. I have to agree tho that I only ride it when there's a 10-minute wait (like EMH times) and I always feel like I'm going to fall out and have to hold on to the rocket with one hand. One last point - the Astro Orbitors in DL used to be on top of the people mover just like they still are in WDW...at some point (maybe renovations for the "new" tomorrowland?) they were moved to the ground and that makes it just like Dumbo or the carpets...also not worth an hour wait IMO. Being up high and seeing the park is the best part of the Astro Orbitors.
I lost a year of my life on that ride ... plus another year WAITING to board it. Very slow boarding.
:rotfl2:

If they were on the ground, I think I would like them! I am laughing because apparently I made the falling out feeling worse by not having the rocket go up high! :goodvibes

I think 2 small children and an adult could fit now as I remember. DH is very tall and when he got in his legs were bent and the width made it impossible for me to fit between (wow that sounds a little risque ) -- so that is why we couldn't fit together.

My DH said that Astro feels similar to flying a small plane. Guess that is why I do not intend to learn to fly planes. I have a hard enough time driving a car!!! (also a plane has no place for my WDW antenna toppers!).

I think you can do it. I'm 6'1", 180lbs and DW is 4'11" and we squeezed in with DD4 last year. I was not comfortable at all, it was tight, but with two kids under 5, I don't think it'll be a problem.

I found this picture on allearsnet....

Thanks for the pic! I guess I will go up with them, and if they can all squeeze in I can skip it! :) I hope so... if not I will suffer and ride it for the kids. Oh the things we do.....

Kim :)
