How many of you still use wave phones?

Use ours each and every cruise. Really miss them when we sail other lines. HATE the app. So glad we were still able to request and receive the paper navigator on our last cruise. You will never win the ultimate quest without a wave phone.

Haven't used them in years. I hate texting the "old fashioned" way with the number pad. We find the Navigator App works well for our needs.

They weren't on the ships yet when we cruised DCL. We do everything together so not sure why I would need them. Same with the App. Phones stay off and in the safe.

We use them every evening on every cruise, with the Nursery and the Oceaneer Club the app wasn't reliable enough.

We gave one to our youngest son, so he can call us from the Oceaneer's Club, if he wanted to and since he doesn't have a smartphone yet, I am sure we will have him use it again this next cruise.

I have never used the Wave phones and prefer the app but it wasn't working well during my last cruise. I have also used Nextel's a few times which have their own frequency through a feature called Direct Talk. It still has the chirp chirp which is kinda funny as I get a few people asking about them or giving me a strange look. It definitely has that nostalgic feeling.

I’m usually solo, so I generally have no need. Two exceptions... If I am cruising on the ship my sister is working on, I have to use that as she cannot carry her iPhone with her when working. Or this past cruise I had needed to cancel my Palo brunch (so sad...but somehow I had not prepaid my gratuities and those ate up the OBC I had bought for that and other things, so rather than be tacky and reduce grats I sacrificed brunch - and wished brunch had been scheduled before dinner as I would have preferred brunch if I had to choose) and went to Guest Services since Palo was not open before I went ashore on Castaway. I took the phone with me to call right at 10 and make sure they had gotten the message.

I'm guessing the overwhelming majority doesn't use them. With the texting app, they have limited usefulness. However, one day they will announce they are taking them out of the rooms and people will absolutely lose their minds and threaten never to sail DCL again.

My wife and I leave our phones in the room and still carry wave phones

We only used them as a replacement for the old pagers they used to have for when your child wants to be picked up from the kid's club. Now DS is 14 so the wave phones stay exactly where they were when we got there and my phone gets turned off and put into the safe.

There ARE people in the world and on cruises who do not have nor want smart phones (or tablets or pods) in their non-vacation life. So until DCL replaces wave phones with smart devices (with a hefty “loss” fee attached), I do not see them going away.

We used them on our June cruise. We had a terrible time getting messages to go through on the app.

I carried it for the first two cruises in case the kids club needed to get in touch with me. Didn't on subsequent cruises because no one ever used it to get in touch with me.

Only if we cruise with the grandkids, if it's just Hubby & I, they go in the drawer.
I put mine in the drawer, and then when was packing up at the end of the cruise, picked up everything in the drawer and put in in my suitcase...wave phone included. Which I remembered in the middle of the night, well AFTER I had put my luggage out to be picked up.
Had to open the luggage in the terminal. Judging from the huge stack of forms they had for returning wave phones to their rightful place they had in the terminal, I am far from the first person to do this.

Turn on airplane mode. This will disable your cellular data. Make sure your WiFi is on so you can use your app. The camera will still work
