HOw many of you SAHM

I'm a SAHM. I always shower but rarely put on makeup. So I'm out doing errands without makeup and really don't give it a second thought. However, when DH and I go out, I always put on lip gloss and mascara. I don't feel that I'm being "phony" because I'm wearing makeup. I feel it just enhances the whole look.

I like a more natural look, so I typically do not wear make-up unless I'm at work or volunteering at the kids' school. Even then, I go for a natural look. When I'm at home, it's comfy sweats all the way. DH is the same way when he's home from work. We are both well-educated and happily married.

When I was a SAHM, I really noticed two different categories of "make-up wearers." Some would never be seen -- even at the bus stop or supermarket -- without full make-up (mascara, blush, foundation, eyeliner, eye shadow, lipstick) and relatively stylish clothes to boot. The second, to which I fell, always looked neat but went out without make-up and didn't mind sweats (or just a good pair of jeans and comfy top).

I try not to judge a book by its cover and have pretty good self-confidence. Happy to be in the 2nd category, as are most all of my SAH and working friends.

If I know I'm going to be out and about I do my hair (gotta get my $ worth for what I pay to have done) and wear make up...I just feel better. When I know I'm going to be at home...I get really comfy to clean...almost grungy. Bleach will do that to ya.

Not many people have flawless complexions either, and if you did you wouldn't need Bare Escentials, which is just as phony as mascara. There's no difference. So you want to glam it up for formals, I want to glam it up for my husband, or myself. What constitutes beauty is all subjective anyway. Heck, some women think they don't need to shave - anywhere. And some men find that sort of "natural" beautiful. To each their own.

I agree. Even though I usually don't wear make-up I do wear a tinted powder because I have a very pale complexion and dark hair. I'd probably wear more make-up if I knew what to buy but I always feel so lost in the make up aisle.:upsidedow

Sadly, I must admit that sometimes I don't even get dressed. I put on my lounge clothes - which are nice pajamas.
I do try to make myself presentable most days, but some days it just doesn't happen. DH has to come home to a pretty sad sight. Today is a good day - I had a shower and got dressed in real clothes AND I am actually cooking for dinner AND he might even get lucky tonight. WOO-HOO big day in our house! LOL!

When I was a little girl, I never saw my Mother without her hair fixed, make-up on, and dressed to the nine's. Once, I asked her why she always was like that and she said in her southern drawl, "Honey, there's enough ugly in the world, I don't have to add to it."
Needless to say, when my DH gets up at 5am every morning to go to the gym, I get out of bed, shower, dress and look KILLER before he returns at 7 to get ready for his job. And it never fails, he comes in, sees the children eating breakfast, kisses each of them and then looks at me and says, "you look beautiful, Baby." That is the image I want him to have of me before he is separated from me for hours on end. It makes ME feel like I am helping to start his day off right. Not to mention, I feel much better about myself if I am ready to go so early in the day.

HA HA HAH LOVED your mom's view on makeup :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

NOw don't make me feel guilty or anything... your dh having a good imafe of you before he's seperated from you for hours...GEEE! THANKS! HA HA! :upsidedow Actually don't have to worry about that one -my dh leaves for work @ 4:30 so he KNOWS I won't be up getting ready - besides he noone would want me up that early !

 How is that a slam? So, since I don't wear make-up if I follow your "slam" criteria I should be insulted because others say they aren't presentable unless they wear make-up or they like to look nice so they wear make-up? That's just silly, everyone was stating her opinion that's all.

Saying you don't wear make up is fine, saying you don't put on a "false face" or slop on the "goo" is a slam. You didn't say that, but she did. How else do you take "false face"?

I use Bare Escentials Warmth to give myself that phony tan. We get a lot of pics taken fir DH's company and I always look white under a flash. Fortunately other then my pale skin I have a great complexion and wouldn't change a thing. I am almost 44 years old and quite happy with my skin. I think it has to do with using sunscreen and keeping my face clean of make up.

So you are judging those of us with a less than perfect complexion. We look phony and put on a false face, according to you. I wear foundation everyday because after I miscarried a baby girl, my hormones went crazy and I had a horrible acne problem for months. The acne is gone, but the scars remain. It is embarrassing and painful. But to you I'm phony. :(

I lost 9 babies and do remember my hormones going wild. Fortunately, it didn't last long. I never felt the need to put on a different face while home or with my spouse though. Of all people he was my support. The last thing I really thought about was how I looked but that was my way of dealing with the pain.

maybe if we ignore the trolls they will just go away!!! hmmm :scratchin

from the first "globs of makeup comment" this person knew what they were doing - and have managed to turn a perfectly nice little thread into a disaster.....ignore, ignore, ignore...do not respond.....

I don't think "troll" is really fitting when you're talking about someone who registered over 5 years ago and has more than 6,000 posts

you can't tell me her language wasn't meant to be inflammatory!!!! I don't care how long she has been here - she was clearly trying to stir things up - has been ever since - and trying to take the discussion in a direction the OP and most who responded did not intend - nor do I appreciate. Would be happy to hear if anyone else agrees - I have sat back all day and not said anything - but they just keep it up. Being on the boards for a long time gives no one the right ....maybe I misused the word troll abit - but I think people know what I mean....substitute instigator if it makes you feel better...

Wow, I think some people here are WAY too sensitive.
Wear make-up, don't wear make-up....who cares?
So, some people don't like it and think it looks phony...again, who cares?

I take back the part about wanting to know if others feel the same way - I just realized I would be doing the same thing the "Skiwee" person did - and turn this into a type of discussion that no one wants - I would rather everbody just get back to the "what do you do" and leave it at that - no judgements - no put downs......I do what I like - what makes me comfortable , others can do what they like - just because I chose to wear makeup - I would never make a put down like saying they look bad - and don't expect others to make comments generalizing everyone who wears makeup as wearing "globs" or this persons other thinly veiled put downs...

I will leave this now in hopes the discussion can get back on track!!! :sunny:

You know, I was really starting to feel for you and then BAM! Another backhanded comment toward the person you were originally quoting.....

What is wrong with you? I speak as another person who has been through something the poster has been through. She told me how she dealt with certain problems and I told her how I did. Big deal. Grow a thicker skin. Believe me I don't need you feeling anything for me. This is an internet bulletin board for goodness sakes! Who cares! LOL!

Now see I thought you were talking about me until you said "globs of makeup" I looked back and it wasn't me. Perhaps I will ignore the troll.
