If I actually knew how to post this as a poll I would. Since I don't I'll just ask for feedback. With all the hubbub about what room, which area etc., I would love to know how many of you actually ask for a specific room number? How many out there request just a specific area(village, longhouse etc.). And finally, how many of you ask for a specific area and upon arrival/checking in, tweak the request by asking if there might be something else available? I'm really just curious. We are staying at the Polynesian and just requesting non-smoking (due to medical reasons) and a balcony. I see some who get very specific. I know that the CMs try to accomodate everyone, but let's face it, not everyone is going to get what they want. Thanks for any thoughts/feedback.

For our last 10 or so stays at the WL I have requested certain room numbers. I list two specific rooms and have gotten them 6 of the 10 times. We like certain courtyard view rooms in the "bears face".

We never ask for specific room numbers but usually ask for balconies and specific longhouses. We have these noted on our reservarion and occasionally call the front desk 2 - 3 days ahead.

The best way to have your request fulfilled is to show up early in the am. When we do this we always get what we want. The only time we didn't get our request in 14 trips to the Poly is when we checked in at 5pm.

We don't request specific room numbers. My feeling is that if I request a specific room, they have no idea why I want that room and if it's not available then they're just guessing as to where to put us. I think it's better to ask for what you're wanting in a room such as facing the main pool, overlooking the lobby, lake view etc.
We don't fax our requests either. If I know what I want when I make the reservation, I put my requests in then. If I don't, I just call back to CRO and add them later.

The room we had a WL was perfect and if I stayed there again I'd be very tempted to ask for that specific room, but I'd be sure and add what it is about it that I liked.

We've always gotten our room requests. IMO, early check-in and the patience to wait for your room if it's not ready play a big part in whether or not you get what you asked for.

I don't request specific rooms. I do say that I would like Raratonga longhouse, 3rd floor though. If you tell them one room and it isn't available then they will have to guess what other room you would like. If you tell them a certain longhouse then your chances are good that you will at least get that longhouse. When we were checking into the Poly in May they had us wanting Raratonga first floor. They made a mistake and thought I had requested a patio room. They checked and saw that I wanted 3rd floor and gave it to me. The CMs really do try to work with you on your requests.

We just ask for locations when we check in. Our requests are always granted. Usually get to check right in also no waiting for the room to be done.

We used to fax our requests but found out we got what we requested at check in.

I jusr requwst a few things, 2 bed, I go with my son, no smoking and a high floor so I feel secire. I always get a good room, never ask to be changed at all, I guess I am lucky in that respect but I don't ask for that much, just the important thing
:D

I also just request any specifics when I book the room (bunk beds, or first floor, etc.). I like a nice room, but am not too picky.

Last trip to Poly, the longhouse I requested was closed for rehab and they gave me another longhouse that was a much better location! So, I don't really worry too much about the specific room!

I request for non-smoking and higher floor and close to the elevator or facing the "larger than life" icons. Or we request certain section such as Marinique CBR or Cabanas CSR.

We have better luck getting our request when we check in the morning. It doesn hurt to request these things when making the ressies and when checking in.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like you all do the same thing I do. Since we'll be checking in around 4ish we won't have our hearts set about a 'certain' room.

I always request what Id like when I reserve the room. If I think of anything more, I call CRO and add it. I havent faxed or called prior to arriving. The cms at check have always been very accomodating. If Im in POR I request no smoking, near pool and magnolia terrace.

For My trip to WL this October I have requested no smoking and the 5th floor. I never stayed there before, but from what Ive read on these boards, the 5 flr seems nice. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Anyone?

Ive statyed at the POR in December a few times and at ASM. The Pop Warner groups flood the All Stars and have also been at POR/FQ in multitudes. I request to be as isolated as possible from them and I have never had a problem. Last December I was upgraded from a standard room to water view. I suspect it was to accomodate my wishes, as I was on a high floor in Magnolia Terrace and all with families. It was nice, no pre teens screaming up and down the halls. ( I have had some experiences, and often wondered where are the chaperones?)

I occasionaly make requests but have not requested a specific room.
My rule is, if I am staying at a new resort, I don't make any requests other then view. I might listen to someone here at the dis and request a certain room and not be happy (well of course I would be happy at WDW) but I like to feel out the resort for myself. make any sense?

We loved our rooms during our first stay at Poly several years ago. When we went back for our second Poly stay we hoped we would get rooms we liked as well but made no requests. We ended up with exactly the same 2 connecting rooms! Since then, we request the rooms each visit and have gotten them each time... what luck! This year we are requesting a different, but specific room (or as close as possible) in the same building, and crossing our fingers. We usually stay at another resort the first night so we can arrive at the Poly for check in very early in the morning, I think this really helps. We also request our preference when we make the reservations, and call the week before (when they are looking at assignments for the next week) just to request again. I think the CM's really try to be as accomodating as possible, as long as you are nice and understand that there are no guarantees.

I always request non-smoking, but have never made a request before check-in time other than that. On my last trip, we stayed at PO Riverside twice. On the first visit, we were in the Mansions (Oak Manor), so when I checked in for my second stay, I requested AB, just so that my FIL could have the feeling of being in an entirely different hotel.

I really don't care about the view, any view at WDW is better than the view from my office! I don't care about room location, either. I'm just too easy to please, I guess

What do most of you consider "early" check-in? Before noon? Before 10:00? Just curious.......

I've had very poor luck getting my room requests met, so now I don't ask for much! On all my solo trips I ask for an upper floor room, three times I didn't get it at check in and so pleaded to change. Just last year, our non-smoking request (always first request) wasn't met. Once at POR I requested AB section, and for the second time in a row requesting it, I didn't get it. I was so mopey for a couple hours, I realized I was placing too much importance on getting requests. Now I try to go with "the luck of the draw" pretty much. That way I'm not dissapointed and spending unnecessary time being mopey.

I usually don't make any requests, and I just wait to see what I get. Actually, things have worked out very well this way for me. I got a terrific castle view room when I stayed Poly lagoon concierge, a very centrally located room near the concierge lounge and with a view of Illuminations when I stayed YC lagoon concierge, and great savannah view room at the AKL. I got all those rooms without requesting a thing (I did pay for that room view/type though). Once I did fax a request to the WL, and though our room was what we requested, it turned out to be a bit noisy (courtyard view at WL) from the pool noise. I have also received one upgrade from standard to savannah view at the AKL, but the CM warned us that it wasn't a super savannah view--of course we weren't upset since we hadn't paid for a savannah view. We didn't see many animals, but we did see a giraffe very close up. I think I will request a specific room type for my honeymoon, but I won't be bummed if I don't get it (I want one of the octagon shaped honeymoon rooms at the GF instead of one of the rectangular ones). :)

Early check in for our family is usually about 6 AM. We don't stay in our preferred hotel the night before because of a later day arrival (flying from Houston is never quick, especially now). On the day of check in, we get up early from the first hotel, and hot foot it to the Poly to get our favorite building and rooms. It never fails - they are very kind and always help us at check in, usually giving us the rooms we asked for. I hate to say we always get our requested rooms, but actually we have for many, many times, due to early check in. A few times they have actually put us into our rooms at that time of the morning! If the rooms aren't yet ready, we store our luggage in their lock-up, have breakfast, and hit early entry for whichever park is open. By the time we tucker out, usually after lunch, we can go back and find our room waiting, luggage delivered, and AC cooling :) Nap time, here we come!
