How many of you are really getting out there at 4am?

Kirstie - Thanks for the offer, I will finalize my plans and then get back to you if that is ok??? If I can help it I don't want to wake the kiddo up.

Ps I hope the head is feeling better

Emma - If the temps drop any lower I think you might have some people taking you up on that offer!!!

Kirsty

I ain't offering the massages though :scared1: Don't want to be arrested an hour before the race! Will have to settle of a loop of Its a Small World on the I-phone. That will get people out and ready to run fast!

The last two years I've tried to catch the bus right around 4. By the time you get there and walk over it's 4:30 or so. Then I say hello to my WISH and ROTE friends and get in line for a restroom. With it being a 5:40 start although mine will be later I think it will be a time crunch for me although I know I'll freeze.

I have a massage seat, with heat for my car.....I haven't put it in yet but Dh says it will work.

Hey guys, looking at the race instructions it says that bag check closes at 4:30 AM. Now, I don't know how strict they hold to that, but just something to keep in mind.

If you have a car get there early and take a nap in the car. If you are at a monorail resort, you can wait a bit but it will still be about a 30 minute walk to the start line from the monorail so factor that in. Hell, if I were in a monorail resort, I might get up at 7 and hop in mid race. ;-)

I'll be on a bus by 3:30 both days.

The LAST thing i want to do is gamble missing the race of getting shut out of the last bus because it was chilly.

Having been there, done that in 2006; I promise you, it's not that bad. Just come prepared. Trust me, you'll muuuuuch rather stand around for a little longer than you'd like that be totally rushed getting to the start, to your corrals, etc, etc, etc.

Ok I know this question has been asked a million different ways but I wouls like to ask it another :confused3 So I am staying at the All Star Movies and was going to take the bus both mornings, since we have a 3 yr old in the room, her mom was going to stay with her and drive to meet us when I finished, now because of the weather she has offered to drive me to the race in the morning so I can stay in the car to keep warm, how much extra time in the warmth do you think I will get??? Is it worth waking a 3 yr old up at 3AM for??? If its only a few more mins then I will just suck it up but if I get hours more then maybe it will be worth it???

Sorry to hijack the thread but I though it was along the same lines

thanks

Kirsty

I can't think of any reason ever to get a three year old up at 3am. ;-) I would go to your local discount store and spend some money on some old crappy throw away clothes. That is if you don't already have some laying around. Bundle up and you will be fine.

I hear ya! I don't want to wait around in the cold either (no Canadian jokes please)...

I'm leaving around 4AM but will be hopping on the monorail at the TTC so I have a little bit more of a buffer (I think).

I am just hoping that me getting up as early as I need to isn't going to wake up the 7 month old. If I wake up my DH, my sister or the 12 year old no big deal - just can't wake up the 7 month old. LOL

My charity told everyone in their "final instructions" to meet at the Pop bus stop at 4:15(that is where most everyone is staying since they had rooms if you earned enough) I sent them an email saying I wouldn't be meeting then as I will be on a bus earlier than that. I would hate to think all the other runners for Rally Foundation will be late.

I gotta laugh a little. If you do take a car to the start to use as a weather shed do yourself a favor and don't sit in it with the engine running and heater on. You should be in there with a downwind window partially opened allowing yourself to acclimate to the cold. The car is there to provide a gentle let down from 70F to 30 F and provide a break from the wind.

Think just a bit, you are dressed to survive the trip walking from the parking lot to the corral or at a minimum for the race start. You are dressed warmer than required for a car will be with the hearter on. You will start to sweat while you are toasting in the car. Once out and when you get that first gust of wind across your back you will chill and feel colder that you would have otherwise. I am not saying start the car every once in a while but do work the temperature down in the car so you will not have to overcome the excessive chilling

Last Bus leaves 4 AM per the race booklet. Will there be other busses after 4? Possibly but would you really want to bank you race on it?
RACE BOOKLET? Did you get a race booklet? I did the Half in 03 and Full in 05 and had booklets mailed to me . . . this year nothing. Do they still mail those out?

No, they don't mail them out anymore (bummer), but you will receive it at packet pickup.

Or you can read through that whole thing at disneyworldmarathon.com and following the link.

I'll be one of those crazy folks on the 3AM bus....I don't sleep well the night before anyway, and I want to be sure to get to the front of whatever corral I am assigned to...plus hanging out with my teammates pre-race is just part of the whole experience and I don't want to miss it. You can better believe that I will have plenty of warm throw-away clothes.

I'm a freak who'll be there early(3-3:30ish)

I just like to get there and get ready to go. I'll have my hand & toe warmers, plus about 8 pairs of throw-away clothes:lmao:

I can honestly say that I've never thought this much about what clothes to wear during a run.

I am in this camp, I am still geared up with a couple shirts and my CW-x Tights. Though I must admit that as much as everyone has talked about clothing I have kind of started to think and doubt myself a little. Well, not really, I am still headed over with the same stuff I had last year. Maybe I will be able to use the sweatshirt I purchased 5 or 6 years ago as a throw down.

As folks who have known me over the years will attest, I am one of the ones who will lay claim to the table and chair in the tent - until the first potty time occrs.

I will probably still head over around 3:15-3:30 myself. I am another that doesn't like to push it...I like to take my time getting there and not have to rush. I have lots of throw away clothes, so I am prepared!

Thanks for all the replies!! Good information. I'm staying at the Poly so does anyone know if I can just get on the monorail at 4:30?

I'll be getting on the bus around 3:30. Went out tonight and got hand and toe warmers, as well as rain ponchos, just in case.

Terri

I thought the first bus was at 2AM until I read the link - so figure 23,000 people need to get to Epcot - they all wont fit on one bus at 4:00 AM...

and the race packet/link said the busses start at 3AM -
