How many of you are adding on due to the current incentive??

Not yet...I'm still weighing my options as my heart and my head are telling me two different things! The extra '06 pts. @ SSR would be great, but I've never really been too keen about adding on there as I already have quite a few points @ OKW (which to me is very similar to SSR as both resorts are large enough that there's usually no problem with availability). Because of this I really should buy AKV as I want the home resort advantage there. But, of course, the incentives aren't as great. I think I'm just going to wait another week or so and decide one way or another. Plus, with Christmas right around the corner I don't know if I want to drop down such a huge chunk of change (especially since I have no idea whether or not I'll be able to sell one of my existing contracts). Timing is everything for me right now!!!

We are thinking along the same lines. My heart says "get those points" and my head says "gas is going to be $4 a gallon". I am obviously spending way too much time pondering this decision!

I know that Disney usually has some sort of incentive going on but it seems that it may be awhile before there is another one this good. Once SSR is sold out there wont be need for another super sale until AKV nears completion. Historically, have the incentives always been this good? :confused3

I can't say if it sit he best incentivew but is one of the better one...

I'm really tempted to add on 110 pts at AKV. I already have two contracts of 65 pts each. I really should only add on two 35 pt contracts. (Two kids to inherit/give to). BUT with a single 110 pt contract I would get $8 off each point and 100 developer points....
I want to add on for a extended family vacation in December '10. I'd like to give them the option of VWL or AKL grand villa.
Decisions! I also have a use year of December, if I added on at SSR I would get 2006 points plus the other goodies. What to do, what to do!:confused3

I bought 225 pts at SSR last month through the referral incentive program. A few days ago I added on 110 pts at AKL!

I received an email from DVC advertising the $8 off AK and $10 off per point at SSR. When I called my guide and told him I wanted to add on of 50 points he said the $10 off was only good if I purchased 100 minimum points.
I told him I read the fine print in the email and no where does it say that 100 points is required in order to get the $10 discount. I really don't want to buy a 100 points and I'm a little surprised my guide is not giving me the discount that Disney is advertsing. Am I missing something ?

Has anyone else heard of this - and did you receive the same email I did - I received it on October 24th:

"Add on now and you’ll also earn a credit of $8 per Vacation Point toward your down payment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas or $10 per Vacation Point at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. Just think of what you could do with the money you’ll save – maybe you can pick up a whole suitcase full of new souvenirs. With an offer this good, you’d better start packing!"

Just to let you, we purchased 25 points the minimum, and nothing was mentioned re credit points. paid $90 but was told this was good since the price was going up.

JOe,

I believe you are correct but then DVC sent out a new email stating that we needed to disregard the first email since there was a mistake in the orginal one.,,,

Yes, I got the email and I have already pitched the thing that came in the mail, but our guide told me the same thing last week about the 100 pt. minimum. I'm not sure that it spells out anywhere that it's 100 pts. miniumum - they have the same info. on the website tho so you could always study it there too. We've only been thinking about a 55 pt. add-on at AKV - so as long as there's no incentive (and no 2006 pts.) for anything under 100 pts. there's no real rush other than I REALLY, REALLY WANT TO ADD ON!:goodvibes

I received a followup email too because on the first email they did not list my Guide's name. The newer email contained the same discount/incentive information with the addition of my guide's actual name and phone number.

We still cant decide if we should add or not add! The clock is ticking b/c we are a Dec UY so we have to make up our minds before the end of Nov.

What should we do???? Why is this such a hard decision???? Help!!!!

Do the incentive apply if buying a different resort thru disney? We are on the list for BCV.

Thanks

90 a point ? Was this through DVC directly ? I was just quoted $104 per point and that's for 50 points add on.

We are also a Dec UY at BCV. I was thinking of adding on 100-160 points at either AKV or more points at BCV.
I saw that you can get $8 off per point at AKV, but what is the cost after the discount (I don't know what the retail starting price is so I can't subtract the $8)?
Thanks,
Mike

Retail price is $104 minus the $8 incentive. You get a $10 per point discount if you buy SSR, same retail starting price.

Okay, we're relatively new DVC owners. Is this offer way better than most? The 270 developer points sound good, but I know my husband won't go for adding on 200 points. Right now we plan to go every other year to WDW, since we do A LOT of other traveling. We kind of think that there may be a resort added later that we won't be able to refuse. Contemporary? One on the monrail elsewhere? We couldn't pass those up!

I think this is one of the better offers I have seen.

This is a good deal, though not the "best" deal. There are ALWAYS incentives of one sort or another, so it is really impossible to tell whether or not the next deal to come along is going to be better than the current one.

As others have said, for example, we added-on in August because that deal was even better than this one....especially if you bought SSR. If you bought 100 points at SSR, you got your 100 2007 points, then they also gave you 100 2006 points (100% bankable) PLUS double developer points.

So yeah, for those doing the math...that was 400 points for purchasing 100. And if you chose AKV instead of SSR, you got everything but the 2006 points (so it didn't exist in 2006), so you got 300 points for purchasing 100.

So, compared with the previous incentive, this one does not seem so great that I would rush out to add-on.

But timing is important. Can you afford it now? Are you ready now? Do you need more points now? (DUH...dumb question, when DON'T we need more points??? :rotfl2: :lmao: )

And about 18 months ago (?) there was the Friends and Family discount, which was huge...I think with that discount SSR was selling at something like $85 pp (down from $101).

Incentives come and go....do it when the time is right for you.

My personal opinion here...

if this is such a hard decision, then wait. There is no huge need to rush into it. DVC is a luxury purchase, not a necessity. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. If you are agonozing over it, there is a reason for it...

I really want to take advantage of this promo. I've decided to sell one of my existing contracts and would like to use the proceeds to pay off the add-on. So now I'm just trying to decide whether or not to go through with it since I really don't know when or if the other contract will sell.

For those of you that have added on @ AKV...do you still get '07 pts for UY earlier than December? Also, I can't remember -- were there any circumstances where someone got '06 pts? I really want AKV but the extra $2 off per point along with '06 pts. for a December UY make SSR hard to pass up. Would I be able to have the best of both worlds and get 100 pts each @ AKV and SSR and still qualify for all the incentives? I know people have been successful splitting pts into separate contracts...but what about separate resorts?

Come on people -- help push me off the fence!!! :thumbsup2

You cannot get 2006 points for AKV as AKV did not exist in 2006. This summer they were offering 2006, 2007, plus double developer points for SSR, but that offer ended on August 31st.

Hi JOe--

Your guide is correct that in order to receive the incentive you need to purchase a minimum of 100 points (or 110 points, depending on incentive). Anything less than that and you pay the full price without incentives.

We're adding on. We got the email, we got the postcard in the mail, I read about it here on DISBoards. I called my guide last Monday but he was out of the office. He didn't call me back all week. I took that as a sign we shouldn't add on at this point and resolved that I wasn't going to make a 2nd phone call. He returned my call on Monday (he was out of the office more days than he expected), not only to my work # that I had left in my message, but because he realized it was a holiday, he tried me at home :) I told him I thought he was just trying to save me money (hee hee).

We have an October Use Year with 315 points at SSR so we're adding another 160 at SSR for a total of 475. We chose to add at SSR because of the $10 vs. $8 credit and because the annual dues are less per point at SSR than at AKV. We don't have any big need to own at AKV and while we won't get to stay there for a long time (probably), once other places are built and popularity increases for other resorts, we figure we'll be able to get a few nights at AKV later on.

We used our Disney Visa for the down payment (0% for 6 months) and will get the $500 on our Disney Rewards Card (which will be nice in the spring when we're spring-breaking our own land/sea combo). We are getting the 160 developor points as well as our 160 we're buying which gives us enough points to have a middle-of-the-summer vacation we didn't think we were going to do this year.

I am interested in whether we'll be able to "re-allocate" points that we have currently booked so we can apply the developer points to existing reservations and free up our regular points to allow us to bank any of them we don't book up.

Anyway, we're just waiting for the paperwork to come this week so we can sign by the Mickeys and date by the Palm Trees.
