On a morning off, we'll make a nice breakfast. Biscuits, eggs, bacon or waffles. We also cook at least one dinner a trip in the room. Lunch is hit or miss but we always have bread and lunch meat, PBJ around.
Without a doubt the largest savings a dvcer can have on trips to WDW is to utilize the kitchen. We usually have all Breakfasts in the room - One or two Hot Breakfasts the rest quick stuff -- We usually will eat one dinner out on a week trip and cook in the rest -- Shake and Bake Chicken , Tacos , Italian Sausage or Kielbasa are some of the staples that are quick , easy and satisfying on vacation. Lunch is mostly cold cuts but we might squeeze a second meal out there.
For a Family of 5 we will go to Publix and spend $125-150 for food for the week - thats the cost of one dinner eating out at WDW
We do for ALMOST every breakfast, a couple of lunches and a dinner or two.
Saves A LOT of money, and it's a bit easier to eat more healthfully.
But we don't do labor-intensive stuff. We grill steaks one night, with veggies and baked potatoes. Another night we''ll do bagged salads and baked fish.
Breakfasts are cereal, or I bring Bisquick and we make pancakes. Or eggs & bacon, french toast.
Just came back frome a 6 nite BWV trip, and I cooked in the kitchen every day!! With 3 grown boys, I can't tell you how much money I saved. Also, Garden Grocer rocks!!
We always cook - including the above noted "blender" cooking .
We do breakfast each morning, and will also do a couple lunches and dinners.
We also always rent a car for the duration, as we tend to go off property several times. This allows us to stock up at the nearest store (we usually go with Publix).
That was one of the biggest perks to buying into DVC. We were able to have am affordable Disney vacation for a family of 5. This year we are going with 14, staying in a GV and 1 Bedroom. Being on a tight budget, we will be having breakfast and a late lunch in the room before heading to the parks for EMH. It works out great for us. I will have 7-18 year old boys, who plan on golfing, swimming and hitting the parks until the early morning hours. There will be plenty of food for their growing bodies!! Along with about 8 boxes of Frosted Flakes!!!!
We cook breakfast all the time and will do big breakfasts with bacon, pancakes etc, and the whole nine yards. When we have guests, we usually do several dinners as well, and like to do just as we do at home. It really is a savings, and since some of us have food issues, it's easier to cook our own than to deal with eating out all the time.
We have always made breakfast & lunch in our kitchen (and I keep some slice and bake choco' chip cookies for midnight munchies), and treat ourselves to a nice dinner in the parks. Just DH & I are going next weekend and we're going to try out the DDP for the first time.
