#1hockeymom, I just booked AKL concierge for our trip in Sept. We are sooooo excited! I'll be waiting impatiently for a trip report when you get back! Also, quick question? Any tips on which room location to request? We are hoping for a savanna view! Thanks! :bounce: pirate: :bounce:

Debbie, I had to go to the Cattle Today website (can't say I bookmarked that one!) to see what ankole cattle are. You had me so curious!

It's so nice to see that we all appreciate what we have/can do. I see so many people these days with an incredibly displaced sense of entitlement. I, too, remember when we were first married and doing everything on a shoestring. It only makes us feel that much more blessed now.

You're going to love your trip! As far as locations, I have only been in one location during both of my previous trips. I was literally right next door to my first room during my second trip! I was at the end of Zebra Trail on the Uzima Savannah, and loved it! We just looked out upon savannah, and could see the edge of Arusha Savannah. It was very peaceful and we didn't mind the long walk. If you don't want a long walk, then request something between the lobby and the elevators.

I would just ask for a savannah view and add on the other requests when you know you have it. I am really worried I can end up in a pool view room for this trip. I think the pool is lovely, but the animals are why I want the view! I'll view the pool from the doors off the concierge lounge if I want to look at it from above!

Happy planning!
Debbie <---who is running off to hockey practice!

SteveandDonna,
We posted at the same time! I agree with you, but have to add that I have a hard time, to this day, looking at a store brand pot pie! LOL I think we lived on those for awhile, and that was during good weeks! :)

Off to hockey!
Debbie

edited to add: I grew so attached to the "family" when my mom and I went in November. Ankole mom was pregnant at the time and we would put off our park visits because we were sure she'd go into labor at any moment! In January when I took just my son, we ended up right next door to my previous room, same view, and baby ankole was there to greet us! It was very interesting watching how the family unit worked together, and how mom and dad would teach the baby how to do certain things! Thus, an ankole addict is born! We live in a small town, there are cows all around us, I have no idea why the ankole have me so enthralled but they do!

Hey, Debbie!! I had to laugh when I read that you don't "get" your fascination with the ankole cattle, being surrounded by cattle as you are - we are the same way! We live in rural Missouri, with cows of all kinds, types and descriptions everywhere we look, but there's something about those African cows, we can't get enough either!! When we returned from AKL last year and showed family members all our savanna pictures, we kept saying "and this is another ankole!"

I have our duffle bags out, I usually never pack a thing until the night before, but I'm so excited this time! Our Dec. trip has me spoiled, we booked it in Nov. and only had to wait about 5 weeks!:teeth:

A WARM Welcome to our new lounge lizards,
goodferry and SpeechGuy!!!!:wave2: :wave2:

Yes! The folks are nice, helpful and unpretentious here, goodferry!
And...the WL CL is a nice choice for Christmas, Speechguy!::yes::

ead79....hehehehe! A DIS CL Marathon MEET!
sounds like a great idea!:teeth:

jacksmom...as I have said before, AKL CL rocks!
you're gonna LOVE it!
If anyone is interested in the 6th floor rooms and layout, let me know!

hockeymom and k&a&c'smom....you TWO are TOO MUCH!!!
Debbie....I soon as I get our pic CD back from Eckerd's, I've got your little baby in a couple of pics.
He was always running behind his mommy!:p

Are you going to be able to do the WANYAMA safari while there?
I hope so!

{{{HUGS}}}} to all and have a wonderful day!

Just wanted to stop in and say Good Morning! I haven't fallen off of the face of the earth or anything. Just been busy.

Are there any wheelchair accessible concierge rooms at the Poly? I would need a rool in shower but I think they only have them in one building. How would this work would I have a non-concierge room and then have access to the concierge lounge?

Thanks

Autumn

Yes we've got the bug, but not being able to get an AP rate is a great cure! No way I am paying rack rate for concierge...

We are smitten with concierge as well. Our first concierge experence was just this past December at the YC. Definitely added value and made our WDW experience much richer.

Worth the extra $$$.

walt's assistant-Do tell!! We are looking for all the info you have on the YC concierge

We were at YC Concierge in October.

We enjoyed it. We stayed in room 5229. We had a great view of SAB, the boardwalk, parts of Epcot and Illuminations. The room was located down the 2nd hallway from the lounge and was very quiet! I don't think I would have liked being closer to the lounge.

Our room had 2 queen beds and a day bed. It also had a desk and the big dresser with a large tv on it.

The room was in perfect shape. It looked like it had just been refurbished.

Upon arrival, we valet parked the car and used the key we were sent to take the elevator to the concierge floor. Dane checked us in and suggested the kids grab some snacks from the lounge.

The bellman showed us to our room where there were autographed pictures of various characters for our children and for us. There was also a basket of goodies waiting for us from the staff of the Itinerary Planning Office. The tuxedo strawberries I ordered were also there and they were delicious.

The lounge offered more of a food selection than WL Concierge, IMO. I think the lounge could use some couches and could even stand to be expanded. They had wonderful banana bread every morning.

The offerings were nice and we enjoyed being able to grab a soda when we wanted one. The CM's also brought our kids chocolate milk and juice. They also gave me a full glass bottle of water one night when I asked if they had bottled water. I thought this was very nice of them.

Hey, All!!:sunny: Fred, we had been missing you! There for a day or two, I thought everyone was at WDW but me!:teeth:

BTW - Debbie, I noticed your edit - when I read your post, I knew what you meant, but had a laugh at how others might read it!;)

I have finally given up hope for CL at AKL - I will try at check-in, but everything is so booked, I'm not holding my breath. That's OK, though, we're psyched!!:jumping3:

My DH always calls me spoiled so I guess that's why I seem to fit right in with this question;) We tried concierge the first time about 5 years ago, I was browsing through the WDW site checking rates and noticed that a lagoon view Poly room and a garden view concierge room were just about the same price(a couple of bucks) so I convinced him to try poly garen concierge. When we arrived we got upgraded to lagoon view concierge and have never turned back!!!! We have stayed non concierge a few times since but it's just not hte same. WE miss the breakfast, and the snacks the bottles of water we before we head out to the parks, wine and dessert on in the room beofore going to bed. You do get spoiled once you stay concierge! Some people say it's not worth it, but for us it is. We are always back at the resort during the day for breaks so we DO take advantage of all concierge has to offer

I'm catching up on all the posts I've been missing! I've been away from them for a bit as I've had my friend's children nearly everyday for the past two weeks. She is going through a horrible time as her mother is slowly dying. I've been having lots of fun (and keeping busy) with a full house!!! 5 children - and all are 2.5yrs. or younger!!! :hyper: I feel blessed to have them all in my home!!! When DH gets home from work, he just jumps right in like a trooper!!

BT....Loved hearing about your trip!!! Got me REALLY thinking about AKL!!! So many resorts and so little time!!!! I thought I went to WDW a lot (once a year) until I met all you guys!!! You are my idols!!! I've GOT TO figure out a way to get there more often!!!

I FEEL LIKE DECEMBER IS A MILLION MILES AWAY!!! To all those who go a few times a year, does it ever lose it's magic?? DH claims that would happen. I, of course, don't think so!

k&a&c's mom, steveanddonna, hockeymom, I'm so excited for you and your upcoming trips!!! Please keep reporting!! If I can't be there, your posts help me get through!!! princess:

...Fred & WoodysRoundup. You've been missed!
Fred, looks like we might cross paths on your 1st day, our last day. I'll make sure to be on the lookout in the Poly concierge lounge.

erikthewise - never say never. You sound like us last month - couldn't get concierge at a discount so we stayed in a standard room. After the first night we called the front desk to see if there was anything available in concierge, rack rates be danged. Nothin' doin', so we had to plan a May trip just to get right again! Seriously, the Poly is lovely anywhere you stay, but we are so spoiled. We missed the freedom the lounge offers and having concierge help just a few steps away. We really did have a great time, but it was a very different trip than what we've gotten used to.

The day we arrive we are actually going to a wedding in Orlando for my wife's cousin so we won't be around much till later on in the day / early evening.

Did you enter your dates in my Who's Going database? You can also search to see if someone else is going down when you are. You can search by day, date, resort, and even a specific DIS username. :)

Click the link in my signature. We just passed the 1000 entries mark last week. Over 1000 trips were in my database. I am so happy everyone uses this.

yup, we're in your database. Lucky you having cousins in Orlando - DH and I'd use that as an excuse to go to WDW as often as possible! But then, we use every excuse we can find. It was a happy day when one of our clients opened a Maitland office - we know we'll be able to work Disney into a business trip someday!

Hi! BambiTamby! I would love to know more about the 6th floor rooms and layout at AKL! Do you know if any have bunkbeds? My ds really wants them! We are sooo excited about this trip! :)

*laughing* Yes, my mom was NOT pregnant, the female ankole cattle was! I read it this morning and realized it was REALLY wrong! I'll have to tell my mother though, that I had her 58 and pregnant!

K&a&c... I think maybe you and I are separated at birth like Bamby and Dreamflight! LOL I am really sorry that we're going to miss each other on this trip! To those that don't know, we also both have son's that have decided they will attend MIT/Harvard or else! Must be something in the water in rural cowland, eh?

Hey woody, I was wondering where you had been!

Bamby>> Can't wait to see those photos! The only photos I have are on my cell!

I just found out through an email that the one bedroom suites are all non-smoking, and the two bedroom are smoking optional. Those (two bedroom) are all at the ends of the Trails, overlooking the savannahs. This information might help someone out! It won't help us, since a one bedroom might have been doable, I don't want to see DH's face if I reserve a two bedroom, nor would we need it with only the three of us. Then again, I could call mom up and have her drive from Venice and meet us!

Also, AKL's IPO is located in the lodge, so if you need to mail/meet/greet someone who has helped you out they are located there. I was told just to tell concierge and they could have them meet me in the lounge. Good information to know!

How many days? It can't come soon enough! We're going to Disney World!

Debbie
