How many of us are gay parents here?

I've been off the Disboards for a while and just saw this thread.

Just wanted to wish everyone who'd like to have a family good luck. Whether you are trying yourself, have infertility issues like me, or are adopting I know this process has it's LOWs- but hang in there there can be highs too!

DP and I are parents to 3 month old boy/girl twins. The path to them was not easy at all. Over 2 1/2 years, we did 9 home inseminations, 6 IUIs with ALL of the injectables, and 2 IVF cycles. Ultimately, the effort payed off (but I think it was less about effort and more about luck unfortunately). We didn't have IF coverage with our insurance company and ended up paying out of pocket. But it was definitely worth it. The smiles and giggles and cooing and how they light up when they see our faces are priceless. We absolutely can't wait to get back to Disney with them next summer!:goodvibes

We are in the process of getting DP on the birth certificate with a 2nd parent adoption. We should have our court date scheduled soon. We live in quite a "red" state, but luckily the county where they were born is somewhat progressive. Hopefully, we won't run into any snags in this process. It seems ridiculous that we payed over $25,000 in infertility treatments, and now we have to PAY to have DP adopt them!! :sad2: (off soapbox now!)

Good luck to all.

Good to see you here again, R Dog Walt.

I'm glad you're enjoying your twins!

oh..insurance.:headache:

My insurance was supposed to cover infertility testing (up to $1000.) But when my doctor scheduled my HSG (scan of the uterus/fallopian tubes) he put my diagnostic code as infertility. The insurance then said I already had been diagnosed with infertility and wouldn't pay it. I fought with them for a year before giving up.

Since that was the only infertility coverage that I had, we had to pay everything out of pocket. We really racked up the credit card bills (that I am finally getting close to paying off 3 years later. :cool1: )

It sure was pricey, but definitely the best money we ever spent.

Good luck to you!:goodvibes

I know insurance companies bite! Anyway, we are in the proces of switching DPs insurance coverage from HMO to PPO so she can see the doctor we have been using the last couple of years for me. Now it is her turn to be poked, prodded and inseminated-we probably won't have our first official insemination until July. Still waiting for the insurance switch to take effect. She's been charting and checking ovulation for a while. I know TMI! Congrats on your twins! Such a miracle!
