generators.......we got one the summer after the ice storm of 98...we haven't had to use it ...but it looks very pretty on the back porch.....waiting there patiently like a good generator that it is..

Yep, we have one, DH sometimes has to use it for his job sites, he is a builder, but we keep it at our house just in case we need it!!

I'm not in NE, but we've had our share of prolonged power outages in upstate NY. Since we have a well, we also lose our water when the power goes out.:(

DH has talked about getting a generator, but we still don't have one.

I'll just sit in the dark with a Yankee Candle.;)

No generator....but loads of stories of sitting in the dark after the ice storm that came 2 weeks before the Blizzard of '78.....and after Hurricane Gloria.....and Hurricane Bob.

and the lake affect snow is horrible some years...and they lose power for days and days...you need one ........yankee was busy here too in 98.....I had six going in each room......so we could see to walk room to room.......now ms generator is a cutie.....bright red and has some yellow on its side.....very stylish

Here is hoping that Ms Generator can just stay on the porch for you

Ms. Generator - leave it to the women to get the job done!!!!!!

No, but I'm sure there are people wishing they did have one after this weekend.

My parents have one. Saved us many times while growing up.

We don't have one yet, but we have a battery back-up thingy that we can plug anything into & it has a light on it to. Good for a couple hours of TV or radio or the wood pellet stove..........or whatever. :)

We got a generator last year. We had a big ice storm and our power went out for 5 days. We borrowed one from the neighbors who had electricity and is a builder. My DH forgot to check the oil and it ran out. So we have a generator and bought the neighbor a new one. (it runs fine but DH didn't want to return something that he might have damaged).

Just a FYI, run it away from the house, not in the house. People die every year from running generators in the house. And check the oil so the engine doesn't seize up.

None here. DW states that our "emergency plan" is to move into a nearby SHERATON if we have a prolonged power failure :) :) :) ........

That was our plan also Eros. By the time we figured out that the electricity was not going to come back on all of the hotels in town were filled. I went to the neighbor's to call more hotels and he offered us his generator. We were very thankful since it was either that or sleeping in the car!

We got one during the "Ice Storm of '98"....it was wonderful to be able to have heat, lights, tv and to invite the neighbors for morning coffee and to fill up their water jugs, etc. But, alas, after that it didn't want to start easily. We had the carburator replaced and it started once(under much protest) and then wouldn't at all. So, we sold it this spring in our yardsale to someone wanting to fix it and resell it. Couldn't see dumping another $130 into it and have it not work any better! so now we are with out, but so far, so good.

no power no where no how.......the only power were generated places.....like the hospitals and the high school where it was opened to hundreds and hundreds of people........good thing that came out of the ice storm.....was people helping others......all through the state.....the great workers that came from the south to help put the electric poles and wires back together again..........we had up to 15 people in our house .....we had a gas stove.....but only the top burners would work......the oven could not turn on cause of the electric ignition.....but for 5 days we had no power.......my sister in the next town had no power for 13 days......so we were luckier then most......

Pumba, We were out 10 and my parents 14 days. At the time I worked at their fabric shop and we had customers out for 3 weeks!!! Yup....you were very fortunate. We had some friends and relatives who came for showers...my DH joked that were a bed and breakfast now!:D He went out with a friend to help someone get wood in. It was surely nice to see "neighbors helping neighbors"! But I hope we don't have to do that again!!
