How many miles are on your car?

I'm a Toyota girl.
My 2001 Camry has around 51,000 miles. Bought in 2002 with 18,000 miles.
My 1992 Corolla has around 136,000 miles--bought in 1994 with 33,000 miles. The engine blew last spring and we had it rebuilt along with some other repairs. This is our spare car and we love having it around and were willing to spend approx. $1,800 to get it fixed. We couldn't get a used car for this quality for under 2K. My first Corolla had 176,000 miles when I traded for the current Corolla.

If you get a used Toyota that is still under factory warranty, you can check with Toyota for an extended warranty (7 years/100,000 miles). I did this with the Camry since the car had low miles; it cost between $800 and $900. I've had one major repair with the Camry that was 1/2 the cost of the warranty.

Have a 1997 Saturn SL2 with 197,000+ miles on it. It has had some problems but nothing over the top, had to replace the water pump once and the starter once. It has been through the ringer, hit a raccoon once and had to have repairs and then hit a deer a few weeks back. Luckily the deer was just clipped so we didn't have major damage to it, just some slight body damage. It is still going!!! Last spring someone backed into it but there again it was just some slight body damaged and some painted chipped off the rear end. We didn't even use the insurance check to repair the damage. There is just a slight dent in the side rear end and some rubbed off paint.

We did get a new-used Caravan last spring. Mainly because our family was really outgrowing the Saturn. Our minivan currently has 50,000 miles on it.

DH just uses the saturn to work, so far it is doing the trick. We hope to keep it running for many more months!

The problem with buying a pre-owned high mileage is you don't know how the vehicle was maintained by prevoius owner(s). I would recommend buying it from a dealer that sells that make, chances are it is a trade and the vehicle was serviced there. If it was serviced there records are easy too obtain.

More and more cars are leased now and are not serviced the way they should be. People figure they don't own it so why spend money on it. Aside from trades that is were alot of inventory of used vehicles come from.

The most reliable, in my humble opinion, are Japanese vehicles. Nissan, Honda, and Toyota products being the best. I'm an auto tech of 12 years and have worked at Nissan, Infiniti, and presently employed at a Hyundai dealership. Not too offend any Hyundai driver's, but that great warranty you have is because you are gonna need it. I miss Nissans and will probably be going back.

That is mainly the reason she is looking at the foreign cars. I have a friend that has a Hyundai and I know she has had some issues with her Sonata. I forgot about Nissan. Also good suggestion about checking the vehicle records at the dealership. Better safe than sorry.

100,000 on DW's 1999 Honda Accord. 30,000 on my 2004 Nissan Altima. Love them both. DW's is going to DS in a few months and she'll get another Accord or a Civic. Wouldn't buy anything but Honda or Nissan or Toyota!

We have Hondas - a 92 Civic with 205,000 miles - not much to look at, but it runs perfectly. DH just replaced the muffer so now I don't hear him coming 1/2 mile away
My 99 Ody van has 175,000 miles on it. It does need a cadilitic (sp) converter before it will pass the emissions test & the power sliding doors aren't working properly. It gets us where we are going.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used Honda, Toyota or Nissan just because 80,000 miles on it. You should easily get another 100,000 to 125,000 miles out of it.

Hold onto your hats kids....I have 38000 miles on my 05 Caravan (Bought 6/04). We have had minor problems that were covered under the warranty.

A car is the most frugal part of my budget. I buy the cheapest car I can get a deal on and drive it forever. I hate the property taxes and higher insurance costs. We always buy new because you can't trust how the car was maintained before. My husband does do an impeccable job keeping the maintenane up. So here goes.

1994 Saturn 275,000
1997 Taurus 195,000
2001 Kia Optima 120,000

Never spent anything above the usual on any of them. I don't see us buying another car for at least 3 years. Believe or not our biggest repair nightmare was a Toyota corolla until my oldest totaled it. Husband said he was glad it was gone.

I currently have a 2002 Honda Accord and I love it! We bought it used almost a year ago, it now has about 45,000 miles and no problems.

DH has a 96 Neon with 85,000 and no problems (the original owners of it were our neighbors, we know they didn't have problems with it either).

I had a Jeep Cherokee that had about 60,000 on it and it didn't have any problems while we had it. Our Hyundai Elantra made it to about 99,000 and we traded it, it was starting to act like it was going to need some work so we got rid of it.

167,000 on my 2001 Honda Civic that had all of 6 miles on it when I got it 5 years ago. We have a new Jetta diesel that we got 2 days before our son was born on July 1st 2005 that has 15K on it already.

We drive 55 miles each way to work. I had a 1993 Toyota Tercel with 176K miles on it and if my brother hadn't totaled it after I sold it to him in 2001, he would probably still be driving it!

Wow Tracey, you do a lot of driving. Have you had any problems with your Civic?

I have ~75,000 miles on my 1999 Ford Explorer. We bought it almost 4 years ago with ~34,000 miles on it. I plan on driving it for at least another 3-4 years. Luckily I did get an extended warranty on it because I've needed it! I'll never buy another Ford!!!! DH's Mitsubishi Galant (1999) has about 45,000 miles on it with no problems (we bought it used 3 years ago and it only had 15,000 miles on it!!!)

I'm probably going back to Toyota after this!!!!

Mine just turned 100,000 last month. It's a 1996 Cavalier we bought new in August of 1996.

I have 18,000 miles on my 2005 Scion xA-- bought it with 4,000 miles on it in March of last year (it was a busy summer for travel! )

The best car I've ever had was a '96 Toyota Tercel that I bought with 18,000 miles on it. I put a ton of miles on it commuting an hour (each way) to work for two years, but I never had any problems with it at all. I sold it to my brother and he ended up totaling it in a wreck last year (it had 115,000 miles on it at that point.) The sad thing is that he only got $3,000 from insurance for the car, and ended up with a total stinker of a replacement (a '96 Pontiac Breeze with 99,000 miles). That thing breaks down every week!

my '98 Saturn has about 90,000 or so. Still runs great, no issues other than normal wear and tear. But with this many miles, everything is "wearing out" all at once :teeth: Last winter I had to replace the fuel injectors. Just a few weeks ago I just got done replacing the suspension, the exhaust is next (has a big hole in it so it's a bit loud). But those have been the only "major" repairs, everything else has been normal stuff (new tires at 50,000 miles, new battery 2 years ago, brake replacement every 18 months or so, etc.). I'm lucky, DH can do all the works, so we only pay for parts. Still cheaper than buying a new car!

DW's 2004 Durango 35,000 miles
My 1997 Neon (commuter car 35 mpg :) 135,000
My 1997 Toyota Pickup 255,000 and runs like new

MY last 3 cars have been Hondas and I will always drive a Honda. When i bought my current one, 2000 cr-v bought used in 2003, i traded in my 12 yr old accord with close to 200k on it and got more in trade-in than i paid for it originally, gotta love that! It's still ran wonderfully and got great mileage. They hold their value and run forever. my current vehicle has about 80k on it and i plan on driving it for at least 3-4 more years.

DH just traded in a Chevy Lumina with 285,000 miles on it. Just in the last 6 months were we having big problems with it. He bought a used 2004 Impala with 28,000 miles on it, and loves it.

I have a 2001 Voyager with 70,000 miles on it. We've never had a problem with it.

We both like the freedom of only having 1 car payment at a time. We try to go as long as possible with NO car payments. Neither of us are the type to NEED a new car. I'd rather have some cash in the bank!

Our 1998 For Explorer just turned over 100,000. Our 2005 Kia Amanti has under 500 (we bought it just before Christmas).

99 Ford F-150 = 178,000
95 Honda Accord = 183,000

Ford has had some issues in the past. Had to change the heater core twice.

Honda has a slow oil leak and a/c problems, but both are paid for and I do not want another car note. I'd prefer to maintain the two vehicles that we have.
