We got our first full water and sewer bill this week. Less than $100 for the quarter, so a little over $30/month.

We went to my parents house for dinner and they happened to have their water and sewer bill on the fridge. It was almost double what ours was. This of course led to us trying to figure out why theirs was so high.

My dad made a comment about "don't you guys shower?" which of course my DH took personally, because that is the relationship they have, but that is another thread!

Just to be sure they were actual usage bills and not estimated, my dad called the city. They are actual usage. They said normal usage for 1 person is 10 units. They used 22 units and we used 8 units.

We tried to figure out the difference and we think it is the laundry. They do 7+ loads and we do 1-2. It is just the two of them and they are retired but my mom works at a shoe store. We have the 3 of us and DH works but DS and I are home.

So, that got me thinking, how many loads of laundry to you do and how many people are in your family?

How can you only do 1-2 loads of laundry a week? I do 8-10. DS does his own laundry, so that is another 3-4 a week.

I do laundry for 3 people.

What I want to know is how the heck are you getting by with only 1-2 loads a week?:rotfl:

We have 6 people living here (3 who are teens who take long daily showers and one 8 year old who likes to take a bath sometimes), we go through ALOT of water (we also run the dishwasher 1-2 times a day).

Between the sheets, towels, clothes, work clothes, school uniforms ect. we easily do 15+ loads of laundry a week.:faint:

When we were a family of five - I did one or two loads a day.

Now we are a family of three (two married) and I think I am down to about 4 a week..

I also have two less people showering - one took 20/30 minute showers (sometimes twice a day) and I notice my water/sewer bill is always the same (due to their $increase). Our bill is about $300 for the quarter.

We do 3-4 loads a week. One load just for DBFs son, and two for us (lights and darks) although half the time it ends up being two dark loads and one light.

I'm just me in the house and I do a load of laundry every other day on average so 3-5/week.

I don't reuse towels (I realize many people do, it's a personal thing) and wash sheets every week.

I can see if you use the same towels for multiple days in a row or all week it would really cut down on your laundry.

I cannot imagine only 1-2 loads per week for 3 people!

8-10? 12+? Are you people washing one article at a time?

We're a family of three. We'll have 3-4 loads per week which includes school uniforms and "play" clothes, work clothes for me and the wife as well as workout clothes.

W&S usage amount is between $120-$140 but that includes car washing in the summer, watering the lawn from time to time and refilling/topping off the pool.

DW does about 15 loads a week for 4 people. It's completely ridiculous - would be less than half that if she combined colors better.

And before anyone suggests I help, I've been banned from the laundry room for committing the sin of making blue, green, purple, black, and brown 1 load instead of 5. :rolleyes1

Edit: We have our own well, so no water bill.

That would work for me.... they're all "darker" colors :dance3:

This is me - but we get a water bill!

I don't separate colors at all. White, black, red, blue, ect. all get thrown in together and so far everything has worked out fine, no color bleeding.

Like I said earlier I do at least 15 loads a week and those loads are FULL. I have a large drum size washer and I fill it up, I can easily fit 10 towels in there at a time.

There is just two of us in the house. I do a load of laundry every day. We have work out clothes, work clothes/uniforms, everyday clothes, bed sheets, bath towels, kitchen towels(those three typically together) and under things and never ending amount of socks!

No, I don't wash one article at a time. We don't reuse towels, so that is a full load every other day. If I add in all the blankets/sheets/mattress pads that get washed, that would add another 9 loads every 2 weeks.

My loads are towels, whites, pink/purple/red, jeans/dark and grey. Depending on the amount of clothes in each load, they are frequently combined.

A full load is rare for us. We use the same towels & sheets all week & I rewear my work pants several times before tossing them in the wash.

We are two adults. We do around 8-10 loads per week. No water bill.

You wash the mattress pads & blankets every 2 weeks?
