My work hours are 9-5 with an hour lunch. Therefore, I am at my desk for 35 hours per week. During summer time those hours drop to 32 hours per week. However, there is never enough work for me to actually work everyday none stop for 7 hours. Somedays there is only 2-3 hours of work that needs to get done and those days drag! However, during certain times of the year there is plenty of work to be done for the full week and then some.

Just curious if other people have situations where there is more hours in a week then there is work to be done.

Three 12.5 hour nightshifts a week. Occasion, but rare, overtime... so I won't count that. The .5 is supposed to be a lunch break, but that rarely ever happens either. Between the time working over and under my shift- 38 hours a week- and there is always work to be done.

I get paid for 12 hours a week, but in reality, I probably work 15-20 hours a week. I am a preschool teacher and do most of my planning, corresponding with parents, prep and picking up supplies on my own time. I will say that I get paid very well in comparison to other preschools in my area. I can't complain!

Scheduled 50 hours a week (no OT as salaried). Say I would work 42-45 of that a week. I do get to take lunch daily.

DH works 40 hours a week. He takes a half hour lunch so is at work technically 8.5 hours every day. As for actual work, it depends on what is going on. Right now he is doing not much of anything but putting in the required time as the base is on military stand down so no students. When he has a class he is teaching most of the day. When he doesn't have a class then he is reviewing curriculum and rewriting anything that isn't current. Or qualifying for a different class.

I am a stay at home mom/wife. When I worked I worked in restaurants. Salaried, 48 hours a week. Reality was closer to 55 in the restaurant and an additional 15-20 in my own time. Some things were just easier to get done without the constant distractions of the restaurant. I ate while doing paperwork or between customers. Never got a real break unless I had a meeting to go to so I had my break while driving to the meeting.

I'm scheduled to work 40 hours per week (8-5), but my most recent pay stub indicates 327 hours of OT year to date. I generally have more work than hours in the day, but not always. There is ALWAYS some project I can tackle if I both have the time and feel like it.

The rule people...

I 'work' 40 hours a week but actual work is probably 20.

I'm at work usually about 47.5 hours a week. I take an hour lunch every day but other than that I'm usually working pretty hard, rarely any down time at my job. So I would estimate I put in 42.5 hours a week in actual work.

I am scheduled 45 hours a week- five of those hours are allotted for an hour lunch daily, which I never get to take.
I am in the building about 50 hours a week. Actual amount of work varies, I am on my feet and managing every hour I am there, but when it's slow, and all tasks are delegated out, I am really nothing more than "visible management" aka floor decoration. There is really no down time though- can't surf the net, read a book, catch up on emails, etc because I am always out interacting with customers.

I am scheduled to work 40 hours a week. I have enough work to do that I could easily work overtime everyday. I've been teleworking since September and I have been putting in 9.5 hour days (with about 15 minutes for lunch) and we still have so much work. I am a federal government employee and I know that goes against what most people believe, but there you have it!!

I am a teacher. Contract hours are 7:45-2:35 with a 30 minute lunch.

I get to work each day about 7:20 and on Friday I try to leave by 3:00. The other days I leave sometime between 3:30 and 4:30. About 4-5 days a week I do between another 30-60 minutes of work from home.

My DH has more work to be done than hours in the week.

I am a stay at home mom. When I'm not "working" I am still on-call. And I make six figures a year! Too bad they are all zeros...

It depends. I'm scheduled for a 40 hour week. How much I actually "work" will vary based on what's happening. There are weeks where I probably work <10 hours. There are other weeks where I'm pushing 39+.

I teach pre-Kindergarten in a public elementary school with 30 students (15 in the morning, 15 in the afternoon). My contract hours are 7:45-3:45. I am always in my classroom by 7:15 a.m., and usually leave by 4:15. So that's a 9 hour day (even though most people think that teachers work 5 hour days - lol!). I do get "contract" breaks for lunch and planning, but I eat at my desk while I'm planning, so I don't count it as a break without work.

Every Sunday, while my DDs are with their father, I work in my classroom for about 6-8 hours.

So my workweek is about 51-53 hours.

I get to work about 6:30 and generally leave between 5:30 and 6. With an hour lunch, I'm working at least 10 hours per day. And the pace never lets up ... So it's solid work time.

I am scheduled to work 25 hours a week in a special needs preschool classroom, and I work every single minute of it. Even if it looks like I'm just playing with the kids, I'm actually working with them on areas where they are delayed. If they want to play with trucks, we talk about fast and slow and name colors. If they want to play with animals, we count them, put them into groups, and arrange them from large to small. We also prompt them to request what they want to play with. Instead of just grabbing something, we help them form a sentence to work on language skills. When they make progress toward mastering a concept, we grab the data book and make notes. Even fun time is work time!

I stay home with our three girls so? DH works about 80 a week, plus one full weekend a month, he is on call from Friday at 7pm, until Monday at 7 am, in addition to his normal hours. Some days I don't remember if we even have a conversation! He leaves between 5 and 5:45 gets home around 8 then does paperwork until about 10. Don't encourage your kids to be primary care physicians- it sucks!
