Park gift shops, kiosks, disney springs, hotels, etc.

Has anyone counted?

I read a tripadvisor review of someone who didnt enjoy Disney. By the sounds of it they didnt do their homework and wondered why they were in line all day...

Anyway they were moaning that WDW is just one big gift shop and that alot of the rides 'dump' you into a shop when you exit.

I love Disney merch and could spend hours looking in all the shops.

Just wondered how many shops there were altogether.

"All rides end in the gift shop".

Sorry, I can't help but your post reminded me of this quoted. Homer Simpson, I believe.

What do you consider one shop? Think about Main street (the left side when looking at the castle is what I'm thinking of specifically). Would you consider that all one store or several different stores? It's all one store on the inside but it looks like many different ones on the outside.

I think there are more than I'd want to count though!!

My son is a HUGE window shopper so we spend plenty of time in gift shops on a Disney trip (probably more than on rides).

That's a typical park maneuver, and not just Disney. Right after you've gotten off a ride is when you might be moved to purchase merchandise about the ride, apparently.

It's based on a complicated algorithm that factors in number of eye blinks, swallows, breaths, and footsteps of the guest between shops. On average, there's a gift shop every 33.5 feet at WDW. When this is not feasible, a pin kiosk may be substituted.

There are a few "unique" shops.

Consider Memento Mori in Liberty Square, the gift shop for Haunted Mansion, has some special items
not found in too many other WDW shops.

According to the Disney website: 270

4 parks: 159
Water Parks: 8
Disney Springs: 60 (and growing)
ESPN: 2
Boardwalk: 4
Resorts: 37
wow I would have thought a lot more then that. but dose this count the carts they have?

It looks like it includes some of the permanent carts (Africa Hub Cart, Liberty Square Parasol Cart, etc), though not all (the Duncan yoyo cart in DS is not listed, but the eyecatcher cart right next to it is)

My complaint isn't with how many gift shops there are, but with the lack of variety of merchandise in those shops. I love shopping for Disney stuff. But the same stuff every time? Not so much.

YES YES YES! I DO like the direction they are heading at Disney Springs, and some of the shops in the World Showcase have unique items, but gosh I'd like to see more of that, and more quality merchandise as opposed to the cheap plastic stuff from China. Not that I'm rich and want to spend $1000 on a sculpture, but I'd like to buy a T shirt made of nice heavy cotton that will last for a few years.

I did buy a pair of shorts for DS two years ago that held up very well. They weren't cheap by any means, but there was an urgent need for new shorts for him that day lol. I just wish more of their merchandise was unique, and of good quality.

This reminds me of an in-park survey I took a few years ago. A CM with an iPad and shopping bag asked if I would give my opinion on a few items. One of the items was a t-shirt that was made of such thin material you could see right through it. I told him I wouldn't pay $5 for it, but I would guess it would be selling in the park for $29.99. He said I was right on the money with the price. I'm sure it would have fallen apart after one or two washes. They had a girl's costume (Belle, I think) and none of the fabric edges were finished! Just blunt cut fabric. I don't recall anything he had in that bag that was of good value for the price.

That is so sad. I have a t shirt or two purchased in the 80's that are still in pretty decent condition, and they got a LOT of use. I so wish they would still sell merchandise of that quality.

Would be an interesting number, especially the 100 or so night carts that appear when it starts to get darker.. depending on what we call a gift shop, it's probably somewhere in the thousands if you really consider every little spot to get something including food shops.. Springs it double to something like 150 restaurants and 200ish shops alone, not counting the carts and temporary things like when cirque comes into the middle of marketplace selling some things while trying to get you to the west side to enjoy the show..

I do have the same complaint though, I remember a time when every gift shop was special and had something unique. Now it's a lot of generic stuff and only a couple more specific shops. The haunted mansion shop is a good example of what it used to be like.

I feel bad as if alot of it comes from China. Do ya think it is made in sweatshops?

Would be nice if it was made in the USA but the price would probably be triple for customers.
