How many DVC owners cruise Disney/other cruises?

Hey, Denise!

We've had to take a break from cruising since our youngest was born, as he was a sickly baby (had to cancel several cruises due to illness). After several surgeries, he is a healthy baby boy now, so we are back to cruising!

Will sail on the Fantasy next August to Western Caribbean, and kids talk about it daily! We have decided to only go to Disney 1x per year, instead of 2x, as we've been doing, and we have cut out all in-park dining, as we really enjoy cooking in our villa, and hubby was just diagnosed with Crohn's, so special diet for him.

With cutting down to 1x trip per year, and cutting out dining, as well as taking our trips 2 years in a row to maximize AP, we are saving thousands of dollars, and all of that goes towards our cruise (pay cash, as points is too risky and expensive). So, we want to go on another vacation every 3 years.

We will never add on more points, as we have 360 and that is plenty. We don't want anymore dues!

We thought we'd only want to travel to Disney for 50 years, and then realized this past year, that we want to go elsewhere, but had spent a mint on DVC over the past 7 years of ownership, so the best to fund our new vacations is to make the changes we did, and we are very excited about it!

We are looking forward to the new adventures that we have planned! We will sail DCL, as we find it's best for familes, especially with younger kids. Sis just returned from Carnival Dream, and found it a total party atmosphere, new RCCL ships are as much or more than Disney, and not sure about the other lines either? We don't drink or gamble either, so that's not important to us - hubby and I also sailed Norwegian before kids, but it was more adult oriented as well, so DCL will be the best fit for us at this time!

Best of luck in your decision, Denise, and have fun planning for that cruise! Tiger :)

We have done 4 DCL cruises since becoming members. We are a family of five and reserved two cabins each time. We have also used a combination of points and cash for each cruise.

This has worked for us. It's a nice change - I like the option too. At the time our vacation time was limited and we had the points. Each of our contract was paid for in full up front so I just calculate our mf times the points needed (of course that is fine for us and I know I could rent them out and pay cash but never wanted the hassle). As someone else stated, food and entertainment is included. We are planning on cruising again in 2013 on the Fantasy. Not sure if I will use any points - kids are all big now - one will be married next year. It will depend on any WDW vacation booked by us or one of my kids. We also have a two nighter out of NYC for next summer. If we keep it, will definitely pay cash.

If the opportunity comes up, we will definitely try another cruise line (if friends or family were planning something big/special and I wanted to join them).

If you love Disney - I think you will enjoy it! You gotta try everything once!

OK, now you KNOW we love our DCL's!! Just got back from a lifetime event for us with the Med cruise. This was our 4th DCL cruise. And yes, we re-booked onboard for another "placeholder" cruise!!:goodvibes Wish we could afford to go more often.

Don't you even THINK about canceling your Magic cruise!! You will be wishing it was longer than just 5 nights!!

Last year we were bummed to have to cancel our Christmas ressies at BWV, but MB was getting chemo... cancel everything... We booked the Dream for this October/November and can't wait... We are sooo ready. Both alive, love each other, new ship, great timing, can't wait.... :)

Savor life.

We also love cruising and have tried the DCL in Dec of 09. It was a great trip and would definitely cruise on DCL again, but our favorite is Celebrity Cruise Line. Having been on Celebrity for 15 sailings, it has yet to fail us. We might go on DCL next year with the ships going out of NYC, but our first preference is still Celebrity

We LOVE DCL! We have been on 6 DCL cruises with 3 more booked. We have had great service. I dragged my husband on the first one, and he truly fell in love with it. For us its the perfect family vacation.

We've even taken a DCL Western cruise without the kids! We tried Princess as well, and it was nice but we prefer DCL. I am a bargain hunter so all our cruises (even our upcoming 8 night Christmas cruise) has been less than $5000- most much less than that. We don't use our points to cruise. We only have 210 points so none to waste! We are currently saving up for Aulani.

DCL does have bargains from time to time... currently there is Kids Sail Free on most Mexican Riviera cruises, and $999/pp in a verandah for late October sailings on the Magic. 7 nights in the Caribbean with a balcony for $999? Good deal!
