I was wondering how many stay at a Disney resort for Gay Days! I am at Pop and will I regret not going to the host hotel? I'm a bear Fat and not even to sure about going to the party at Tyhpoon Lagoon I will not fit in! You see I'm just out for 6 months after a very hard time in my life I almost took my own life and I don't know what to do and not to do! It is my first gay days my first time at anything this big! I'm kinda scared going with a buddy but he is shy as well! I nedd your advice!

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I wanted to welcome you! :goodvibes

I am an old, married, straight girl, but my family and I will be at Gay Days. We can't wait! Be sure to check out the threads about our planned meets - we have a lot of really fun folks on this board, and I know we will all have a blast! Please feel free to join us! There is a list on one of the threads about who will be there, what dates, and what resorts. I think the majority are staying places OTHER than the host hotel.

Many stay at a Disney resort rather than the host hotels. There are many sides to Gay Days. Some go for the parks. It can be VERY empowering to see the sea of red on Saturday at MK. Some go for the parties and hooking up and stuff and don't even step foot in the parks. It all depends on what you want. I don't know you so can't say what would be best for you. But I would think someone new to the whole gay scene might be better off just going to the parks and enjoying the atmosphere. Don't be scared. You'll have a good time no matter what you decide to do.

When we stay, it's always at a Disney Hotel. ::yes::

Just go! Be there/here and soak up the atmosphere. Just put on that red shirt and head for MK on Saturday. Be in the flow of the sea of red. You will feel overwhelmed with the sense of "finally" belonging, finally seeing the evidence that WE DO EXIST IN NUMBERS and so do our beautiful supporters.

Just join in a pack of red and start talking, or don't! Just wave and smile! :teeth: That's what some of us do who are too shy to speak up. But we love being there and seeing everyone just the same.

You'll have a ball at Pop! It's a fun place to stay. ::yes::

And for one, I am very thankful that you made it through the very dark place of hell that caused you to doubt your desire to live.

Stay strong, stay proud, be a BEAR!!! ::yes::  :teeth:

I would avoid the host hotel like the plague.....

Just not my style at all.....:confused3

:lmao: Reminds me...

My wife and I one Gay Day weekend (probably three years or so ago) went looking for the vendors area...

We walked into the resort hotel where it was and were inudated with the sight of young, buff "boys" (no offense intended at all, they were boys!) in bikini speedos running amok...

Needless to say, we laughed uproariously and decided regardless of what the vendors had to offer, we were clearly in the wrong place! :lmao:

We never stayed at the host hotel, and we don't do the parties either.

We prefer to hit the parks full of Gays and Lesbians of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages. To me, that's what it's all about!

So don't worry about it. Go, be who you are and have fun!:thumbsup2

I agree with Mike, but some might think i am a prude for not relishing all the host hotel activities.

Some gay people even hate Gay Days, they prefer Disney on their own in smaller groups, but I love the fact you become part of the majority for once a year, not a minority. I think it is important that people see that we are a large part of the community, with huge numbers, and can behave respectively like everyone else.

Disney hotels are very gay friendly to begin with, and Disney could not survive without its gay cast members.

I recommend you just do the parks and stay nearby or on-site the first year, and enjoy the sea of red shirts at the parks. You won't necessarily see a lot of red shirts while your at your Disney Hotel. The last time I went to the Beach Club Villas for Gay Days I only noticed a few couples wearing the red shirts, but once at the park you found out what it was like to be in the majority. It is being in the majority that makes the best part of gay days for me, not the pool parties, and by the way there is a host hotel holding a bear party, but for me I would rather be in Storm A Long Bay at Disney.

I love Typhoon Lagoon, but I would rather be there on a normal day, and not for the private Pool Party on Gay Days, but I probably would have done it when I was 25.

It is too bad they shut down the clubs at Pleasure Island, but the Boardwalk has some nice clubs that are gay friendly, and City Walk at Universal is gay friendly.

If you catch me at the Parliament House, don't tell Mike you saw me.
(Just kidding, I am not going to Gay Days this year, maybe next year).

My partner and I are staying at a Disney Resort on Bay Lake and are not leaving Disney property. Looking forward to not be able to swing a stick without hitting gay but otherwise not interested in party or pool shenanigans. We generally make our own. :cheer2:

So, you're into hitting gays with sticks, huh? ;)

That could make you a popular guy around here.::yes::

Especially with Wally. :thumbsup2

Since I am new to the DIS and unsure how far I can push things without reprimand I will, for now, remain silent. But my bad pun gland is literally hemorrhaging right now. :rolleyes1

Unfortunately, this is a family forum

Oops. Thanks to OrlandoMike for pointing out my error. We are on Seven Seas Lagoon. Duh. I clearly need to be Disney demoted.
