In light of the "It's Palo..." thread, I had to dig this one up. Cracks me up everytime I read it. It goes to show that all forums are the same!! :confused3

How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb??

1 to change the light bulb

1 to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

53 to flame the spell checkers

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"

.. another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy"

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

6 that flame them for not using the Search feature

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three"

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ

44 to ask what is a "FAQ"

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

16 posts of two forum members that are exclusively talking to each other only about lightbulbs and what they did that weekend

24 posts of telling them to take it to PM's

1 moderator that comes in and says something about doing it wrong and that everyone who disagrees gets a warning

1 new forum member to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

Too funny. That thread is killing me. I thought it was a thread to honestly rant about pet peeves of Palo or Palo's. Heck never knew what I typed would be taken so wrong. It just oges to show you that only some are allowed to rant and rave and others will get flamed. :rotfl2:

Of course if you swing high enough.... :rotfl2:

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: Tarabra, thanks for posting this. Things are this funny only when they ring of truth. :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Very cute. :thumbsup2

BTW, I thought it was Palo's, only because I had seen it posted that way so many times. :rotfl:

omg......i love it.....soooooo true :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Wow, that really does sound like us........actually, I don't think that even the first one would change the lightbulb without asking for advice first.

Can't we just have a seperate board for Light Bulbs and end this insanity :yay:

That's funny!! :rotfl: Somehow I managed 5 Disney Cruises before I even heard of the DISboards!! :rotfl2:

Thank goodness I'm nearly alone in the office. This one is my favorite:

Thanks for the laugh!

How about:

"22 to argue about whether or not anal-retentive is hyphenated"

Great thread!

ooohh...good call!! I believe it would be hyphenated if it was describing someone, such as anal-retentive person, but not when it ends a sentence!! Hey, I just copied and pasted!!! :cool1: :cool1: :confused3 :confused3

Good question, Tarabra - and as a good Disboarder I had to look it up and share:
In One Word, Two Words, Hyphenated? by Mary Louise Gilman (whose work is a bible for those of us who work on court transcripts), "anal-retentive" is listed as a psychological term that is hyphenated at all times. And while your suggestion of hyphenated when an adjective but written solid otherwise sounded quite reasonable (it holds true for other words, i.e., gee-whiz/gee whiz, shape-up/shape up, roll-over/rollover/roll over, soft-pedal/soft pedal, which change depending upon the part of speech for which they are used), I must throw my hat in with Ms. Gilman.

BTW, this is the bestest thread ever! [No, Mary Louise does not address good/better/bestest!] One can see the truth lurking behind all the expected responses to changing the light bulb, and it's all the funnier for it!

Whew, I'm glad I don't type anal-retentive too often! Now I know! :goodvibes

This line is funny to me, but not really relevant to this board so much.

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

I frequent a band's message board too, and there was a time when people would announce, "This is my last post to this board. I can't take it anymore." Needless to say, they always came back. Four years later, most of them are still on. :rotfl2:

But bestest is not in the listing of acceptable words for Scrabble! So it just cannot be a real word. Just been reading a very funny book about Scrabble obsessed personalities, "Word Freak" by Stefan Fatsis. Had to get the book after renting the documentary "Word Wars", based on the lives of some of the strangest professional (yes, really) Scrabble Players. If you love language, here it is taken to the max.

Oh, by-the-way, lightbulb is not acceptable either.
