How many days out to link to MDE?

My fiancée called the number on our booking confirmation to ask if we could put a special request on our reservation and the lady he spoke to said the 12 digit number will be assigned in about a week's time. I know previous posts have said CMs have been misleading customers sometimes so I will post up when we get ours as we go in Oct too just in case it helps. Hope you get all the ADRs you want! :)

I have my reservation number (the 3 letters 5 numbers one I got from calling the US with our UK reference) for our package in April (hotel, tickets and dining)
and I can link my accommodation, but no tickets show up on MDE.
How long until they do (or do I need to call again to get my tickets info?)

Everything on the site suggests that it should be picking up ticket info automatically...

It should do with a package. It's hard to tell because MDE was not 'live' when I booked but I have always had a habit of logging into the US reservation system to check mine and when I put in my details it automatically showed up the alpha numerical one that you have. Although I got my 12 digit number when I booked I have never used it for MDE and the one displayed on there is the one in the format you have. You don't link separate components with a package so when you say that you have linked your accommodation, it should mean that you have linked everything on your booking

Are you viewing it thru the app on your phone by any chance? In the app it doesn't show my tickets but on the laptop it does.

ETA. I made a change to the tickets we had after I had booked and they showed up in MDE pretty much immediately (although the origina tickets are still showing too!)

So which numbers do we need to link to MDE ? - the alpha numeric or the 12 digit ?

Both work apparently. I only mentioned the alpha numerical one as some folk have it and think that they still need the 12 digit one, because that is the one that is always referred to. (In previous years it was the one you had to have for online ADR's)

Hopefully in the future, all travel agents / holiday companies will be in the know about MDE and either all the relevant numbers to manually link will be on your booking receipts or they'll do it all automatically for you !

Because at the moment we have to do faaaaar to much work to sort this out lol

Too true! But don't hold your breath! Believe it or not there are still plenty TA's that sell Disney and don't have a cooking clue about ADRs, and the rules surrounding them. :crazy2:

I must be special as I've never had the 12 digit number, logged in to MDE put in my email confirmation number and up popped the alpha numerical number attached to my booking.

189 days so not long to go before I can book ADR's but... I doubt I will book any :rotfl2:

I'll worry about FP+ nearer to the 60 day ;)

I'm probably going to book 2 for next year - both at the request of DD. Meals to me are more of a hassle than anything else. We did so many character meals while she still at for kids price and I'm glad we did, but we work food into our trip rather than plan our days around food

Can't remember if I had to call up the number in MDE or if it just linked to my email address (???) It was months back and I've had a Disney account for years so I never thought anything of it lol

Don't have a clue about WDW in general. I went to Thomson to look at a price I found online. I wanted to go to Disneyland in Florida apparently. Oh dear didn't even know there was more then DLP and WDW. When asked for Saratoga springs he priced me a separate trip to Sarasota. :/ the TA rang me later that day if I had made a decision on booking my trip. I told him I would book with some one who had more clue of what I wanted :/ I don't think there will be many if any TAs that are going to be clued on to ADRs, FP+, PP+ and MDE. Shame a lot of Brits will miss out.

I was thinking EXACTLY this on my way to work this morning.

I booked with Ocean Florida for next Oct and I was wondering when and if they would ever mention to me about MDE, FP+ and ADRs especially given that we have free DDP. My sister is actually joining us and it's their 1st trip so they are relying on me to sort everything out .... no pressure then :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I do feel very sorry for all those peeps who save and save and get absolutely no help from their TA when if you think about it that's exactly what a TA should be doing :mad:

See the problem is that these agents sell holidays and amongst the offerings they have Turkey, Greece, Florida, Africa, Spain ....... They sell holidays. But they are not Disney specialists. Nobody questions it because when you book a trip to Australia, the agent generally doesnt' tell you much more than the brochure or website does about your destination. It's sad, but it is true.

US guests have the advantage of the likes of Dreams Unlimited which is an official Disney agent and the specialize in all things Disney. So when you ask them a question, they have been taught, trained and kept up to date and can give you an accurate (at least more or less) response and/or at the very least find the answer for you. We don't have that.

I do think it is completely unfair but at the end of it all, the onus is on the traveler to find out about their destination. Even phoning WDTC there are times when you know you are speaking to someone who knows what they are talking about and other times you know you're speaking to someone who has been trained to sound very confident but is talking rubbish :rotfl:

It really bugs me though, that I bought DIRECT from WDTC and even they can't figure out what they're doing.

I sent another email tonight (this time to the UK email address rather than the contact form on the site), and explained that I'd been told lots of things, even that the IT guy said it "might not be until March" (bear in mine, 180 days out is 19th FEBRUARY) and that I was really worried that it seemed to be a problem, but I knew other people further out than me with reservations linked, and asked if they could help. We'll see that this response it, though I don't expect to hear anything for a week or so.

*fingers crossed*

I'm SO sorry you had such a bad time with the Thomson agent. We have a superstore near us and the staff know loads about the places like Florida where they know loads of people will want to go. I did find the agent I spoke to in Thomas Cook when I was first thinking of booking WDW to be pretty hopeless though. Maybe they should round up all the great TAs and form a training academy with them and all the rest can learn a thing or two! lol :)

We live in a tiny town full of mainly oaps they know plenty on med cruises what they sell I guess. Just a shame. Thankfully I have learnt so much from the Dis even things like Facebook, Pinterest etc.

Yeah I know that in my reply to foxxxy I wrote that they do know a lot about what they sell but he was supposed to be their expert because he had been twice. Virgin aren't providing much more help at the moment either :/

Ah right, sorry... didn't realise he was supposedly their expert!! :( Am SO happy you're finding out all you need to know on here though! :) :) :)
