How many cast members play each role?

College program character performers get $6.40/hour. Full-time CMs top out (I think) at around $14 an hour.

It's scandalously low in any case.

actualy certain CP character performers get payed more that just minimum wage.

Only adults here. Are the costumes AC'd? A friend who was a CM told me yes but he also told me they were the best jobs to have, so I don't trust his info anymore!

One time I saw Pluto at the Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner - The when I left, he was stnading on Main Street.

He's one fast dog.

Well, of course there's only one of each character, but there are hundreds of performers who help them out.

When we took the Backstage Magic tour, we were told they are Mickey's, Belle's, Cinderella's "friends".

Maybe I've read wrong on this, but from my understanding only the beast has air conditioning, but he's really a prince so he deserves it right? :)

Sorry, forgot to "quote", responding to mommyoeo

Well, at least the ones in DL aren't. WDW is hotter, and so much more humid, but my guess is that they're not either.

Actually, only the Beast does I believe, and just for the parade. I don't the Beast who does meets has AC.

$6.40 IS the "more than minimum wage" rate. Other CPs get $6.15.

Also, federal minimum wage is $5.15. Not that that's enough for anyone anywhere to live on; the actual value of the minimum wage has been steadily declining because it is not raised accordingly with inflation.

As for air conditioning, it amazes me how many people believe the characters have AC. Where would they put it? Not to mention the noise it would make!

Actually, all CPs get $6.40 now. There are positions that earn more, but that is the minimum now.

There is no where to put AC in a costume. It would definately make noise. I work at Universal seasonally and I know there the characters are only on stage for 20 minutes out of the hour. They have to deal with the heat for that long, but 20 minutes in Florida heat can seem like alot longer! I think Universal starts at 6.75 an hour but that is still very low and not enough to live on. That is why even though I love my job at Universal, I cannot work there on a regular basis. I just cannot live on that.

No, there really are two Chips. One is a chipmunk and the other is a teacup.

Also, there are two Goliaths: one gargoyle and one lion.

When we were at the MK in November, Cinderella looked very familiar. We just assumed it was from CRT earlier in the week. Cindy also remembered DD. DD was not wanting to sit by Cinderella too bad and Cinderella commented on how DD did much better with her friend Belle at EPCOT the day before. I just smiled and said OH!! That is where we remembered her from. She was also Belle the day before. As we walked away she looked and me and smiled and put her finger to her mouth and said shhh. :ssst:

i heard a rumor that at some point they want to syncronise(sp?) all of the Disney parks from around the world so that Mickey was never in the same place at the same time. i know it sounds like a huge stretch, but wouldn't that be interesting??

when we went on the keys tour they mentioned that there is no AC in a costume. although i know there are certain clothes you can buy or small little trinkets to wear to make you cooler, but it's still going to be really hot in those costumes in the middle of summer. when i was there in August the characters were only outside for about 10 minutes. they don't even have AC in those bubble floats during the parade! they just have fans on the floor so it's about 10 degrees cooler in there than it is outside.

I remember reading an article once...maybe in Reader's Digest?...by a writer who went to WDW and trained for a day or two to be Goofy. He said it was VERY hot in the costume. He said he was sweating so bad it was dripping in his eyes and he basically couldn't see a thing. -- He also said though, that it was a thrilling and wonderful experience.

One has one tooth and the other has two. Dale is, by far, the biggest mischief maker, which we learned very well last February. I'm amazed at how incredibly fast the characters travel between parks. They must be using those Segways from Epcot. ;)

My friend's daughter was various characters at WDW for a time, but said that after awhile the pixie dust wore off and she's now a teacher in Florida.
