It's hard to give you an exact number at this moment, as we are in the process of retiring some of our older buses.
Here's our fleet roster:
2650-2689 - Nicknamed "Purple Stripers." These buses were bought used for the express purpose of cast shuttles. 3 buses were converted to Character Caravans. All but 2 buses have been retired, and are being used for parts. 2664 & 2665 are currently in use as manager shuttles. These buses are not considered part of our fleet.
GMC RTS II buses:
2701-2743 - Bought new in 1980-1987.
2744 - Former 1980 GM/Allision test bus.
2745-2780 - Bought used in 1998 and fully rebuilt. Units range from 1979-1981 models. Originally ran in Detroit MI, Miami Valley, OH, and Miami, FL.
TMC RTS buses:
4701-4814 - Bought new in 1988-1994.
Nova LFS buses:
4815-4885 - Leased new in 2000-2002
So, technically speaking, we have 265 buses. However, I'm guessing about 30 of the 2700 series have been retired. Brings it down to 235 as an estimated number.
A few notes:
Most of our RTS buses are 40' long, and 96" wide.
2708-2720 are 35' long.
2744-2780 are "widebodies" with a 102" width.
Most RTS's have a Detroit Diesel 6v92 engine. The 6v92 is a 6-cyl engine with Turbo Assist. They are 2-stroke engines which makes them harder to keep from smoking on takeoff.
4805-4814 came new with a Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine. We are currently retrofitting 4895-4804 with Series 50 engines. 4796, 4799, 4801, and 4803 so far are complete. The S50 differs from the 6v92 in that it is 4-stroke 4-cylinder high-pressure turbocharged engine. They actually perform considerably better than most 6v92's, and don't have the smoke that the older engine has.
The Nova LFS is a 40'x102" full-flow floor bus, and is equipped with a clean burning Detroit Diesel Series 40 engine. It's a 4-stroke 6-cyl engine, based on the Navistar DT466. These buses are also equipped with Retarders. When the driver takes thier foot off the gas, the engine automatically slows the bus down, without using the brakes.
All of our guest buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts or ramps, and two securement areas. Older hydraulic lifts are being replaced with newer and larger retrofit lifts.
All of our Nova low floor buses have a kneeling feature. Many of our RTS buses have this feature as well, however, some elderly buses have a difficult time standing up, so to speak.
