I have been lurking for a bit and have enjoyed reading others threads (even though Ive never posted) and I thought that starting my own thread might help me work through my increasing Disney planning obsession! Even if nobody ends up reading this but me, at least I will have an outlet to vent my ever-expanding knowledge and overwhelming excitement.
Here are our stats:
Me: 39, DH: 39, DS: 6 (will be 7 when we go)
We live just outside Detroit.
Well be staying at the POFQ from November 1-8, 2011.
A bit of background: I enjoy Disney, but wouldnt consider myself an expert or anything like that. Kind of your average WDW vacationer -- after all, who doesnt like Disney World, right?
You know who? My husband, thats who. Hes more of a read-50-books-while-sitting-on-the-beach-doing-nothing-else-for-an-entire-week vacation kind of guy. Not that theres anything wrong with that...but I tend to enjoy a bit more activity on our vacations.
Fortunately, once we had our son, DHs attitude towards Disney changed: He could understand the value of going to the parks with a kid in tow, to see the magic through a kids eyes. It would never be his first choice of a vacation, but he wouldnt say no to the idea of taking a trip to DW with our DS (who we call Bug). And so I waited.
I really caught the itch back in January 2009. DS (then 4) and I were going to be spending a week in Florida with my parents. DH couldnt join us because of work, but I am self-employed so I can travel pretty much any time. Two days before we were scheduled to leave, I said as a joke to my dad, Hey, we should totally go to Disney World for a day or two while were down there. I hadnt been since middle school! To my surprise, my dad said Youre right! That very night he and I sat down, called Disney and had a 2-night, 3-day trip planned on the spot. We had rooms at the Coronado Springs Resort, dining plan and park tickets within an hour. And we had no idea that we needed to make ADRs or anything (luckily we went during an extremely low-volume crowd time -- first week of January -- so with a couple of well-timed phone calls we were able eat once we got there.)
We spent 1/2 day each at AK and DHS and one marathon, 14 hour day at the Magic Kingdom. It was a blast and we packed a lot of fun into those three short days.
Well, Bug and I had so much fun on that trip that we've wanted to go back ever since...and Ive been trying to figure out how we can afford to make it happen.
