The topic about vacation photos got me thinking about whether ya'll do seperate books for kids or just keep a "family" book ?

If you do just one book what happens when the kids grow up and want copies of their pictures?

Personally I did a book for each of my girls (The ones that lived the longest have one or more for each year) and maintain one for Jake (He's up to 7 completed books now) and then *My*(the family) book- (Yes I have a 6 ft bookcase full of the ones Ive done over the years)

This is the hardest topic! LOL!
My initial goal was 2 on going books one for each kid of their life. This was to include everything from snapshots, holidays, school trips etc....
but that was crazy! and of course too hard
So now this is what I do
DD:
school book
(goal to always have it up to date before the next school year)
brownie/girl scout book
general activity/sports book

DS
School book
general activity/sport book
scouts (if he joins he is going into first grade this year)

Family book
Disney (goal finish before next trip)
Christmas
family activities (small trips, day trips etc...)

I use top loading books so I can change my mind. Right now stashed in a new pizza box I have about 50 completed layouts that I am not sure what book to put them in! LOL! They are all family events!

Let's see...at the moment I have the following books "in progress"

DS - Boy Scouts general as well as a second book on his summer of high adventure (it started out as just his Philmont trip and then he asked me if there is room to include the Isle Royale trip) - so 2 there

DD - Girl Scouts

Those are the three I am currently busy with.

Then I have the following "started" in the sense that I have the books, photos and general ideas but need to actually start putting them together "just as soon as I have the 3 above caught up"! :p

DS - high school (and when that is caught up I will begin backtracking to middle school, then to elementary, etc)

DD - high school (and as above)

Family book

My wedding book - and this has to have some sort of priority as the photos are mainly in an old magnetic strip sort of book.

So I guess in reality I have all sorts of books going.

And now my dad wants to work on archiving all of his old photos. I suggested he either look at the computer "scrapping" since he has to start by scanning a lot of slides, or I'd love to have him work on his book while I work on mine but at the moment I just don't have time to take on another set of books!

What a great question!! My main goal is to get each vacation in a seperate album or at least put 2 trips in one depending on how many pages I have. For example I have one album that has our wknd trip to Evansville, IN for a family reunion in 2002 and our annual family trip to Panama City Beach, FL. I had enough space to put the 2003 trip to PCB in it also. Now I'm in the middle of our first trip to Disney, Sea World and Universal Studios. That will be a big album and I hope not too many pages for one album! (((SQUEEZE))

Then I have an album that I try to keep general family stuff in such as girls soccer games, get togethers, silly stuff around the house etc. This is basically my album.

Then I have ongoing albums that I'm trying to get together for the girls...so far I've only gotten to #1 daughter up to age 10. She'll be 13 this mth! Haven't started the other two altho I have pockets in a file folder for their pictures.

I also have a seperate album for DH and I which is our pictures to Fantasy Fest that is held in Key West in October. We go about every other year.

I also want to make a Class Reunion album for DH & I. His 30th and my 25th was last year. Haven't started on that one yet!

AND...sometime I want to do a Heritage album for my Dad's side. I found some negatives in my grandmother's trunk several years ago, had them printed and found some AWESOME pictures of my great grandparents from the early 1900s.

To keep the kids from arguing over certain pictures 10 yrs from now after I have them in albums, I get double prints and then if there is a shot that I think all 3 girls would like I make extra copies for the girls and plan to put in their albums.

Man.......I need to get off the computer and start scrapping!!
:earseek:

At least I am not the only one who is nuts. I have

A Family album with holidays, general family picutes, and vacations

WDW album just for WDW vacations

DD has her own and each DS (I have two) has one. In those I do sports, field trips, birthdays, or pics that have a theme of just the individual. Like I have pics of DS's hamster in his book.

Then DD has a Girl Scout album.

So I guess that is 6 for me. Make it 7 since I am starting to do my Mom's pictures too. Pictures start prior to 1946 and I am to 1960. Hoping to get to my birth (1966) by the end of the week.

Wow.... so glad I am not alone in this scrapping "mess"! I have currently 5 books I am working on.

"Life" book for DD (really far behind.... like 8 years!), "life" book for DS (also about 5 years behind). Those books, in theory, will contain first year of life, major events after that (Christmas, birthday, scouting, sports, first day of school).

I am also working a book for each of them from our first Disney trip from Jan 2002 (almost done!!!) and then will begin working on a book for each of them from our second trip (Jan 2004)!

I also have an ongoing project of a "Gardening" scrapbook for my Dad. I finally, this past Father's Day, got completely up to date (from their first house in 1961 to present!). So that one will be easy to keep up with. My Mom takes the pictures and forwards them to me.... but she recently went digital, so I'm sure the number of pictures will increase!

But I am just realizing that when they move out (to their first homes, not college) that I will not have any more scrapbooks here! Oh well.... it will give me a reason to visit them.... just to see my scrapbooks, of course;) !..................P

Currently I have 2 open albums, and many in planning.

Currently Working
DD's 1st year Baby Book (almost done, 17 more pages to go)
Family Christmas Album

Planning
2003 Family Album (next in line)
1999 Disneyland Trip & 2001 WDW Trip
2003 WDW Trip

Eventually, I will be scrapping 2004 WDW Trip, Wedding and Family albums for each year. Hopefully I'll get those. I have to keep myself busy.

Thank goodness I am not the only one going crazy!!!

I currently do a chronological book for each of three children.

I have a Christmas album that features Thanksgiving thru New Years.

Then I do a vacation album....all Disney....of course.

I feel like once I get caught up on one...the rest are soooooo far behind....:hyper:

Since I have no kids of my own I undertook the scrapping of all of my and two brothers' childhood pictures. So far I have completed both boys book up through 5th grade or so, I have one for my high school years, one for me from birth to age five, and now I'm working on years 6-13 for myself.

I have a family album (for my mom) in production, a heritage album I've just barely started, a comical album about my first wedding (failed marriage but pictures need to the scrapped anyway lol), general life albums for the past several years (I'm getting close to caught up with those through like 2001 maybe), and a Christmas ornament album. Oh, and then there's the pet's book.

Albums I need to start but have not yet: My Disney album (compiling parts of all trips in one album), my 10-year reunion album (just happened 2 weeks ago though lol), and the 2003 and 2004 life albums.

I am currently working on our last Disney trip....finally!;) I am hoping to get two trips in each book, I have four total to do. I also do a family album for myself...just my favorite pics over the years. I have a vacation album...this is our weekend getaways and our camping trips. Big vacations go in different albums. Then I keep DS's album up to date for him.
So that's four books for me...
DD does her own book for sports and then she has one for her life. It is a huge help that she does her own. I've done a few pages here and there, but for the most part it's hers.

I can't wait for the day I can say I'm caught up!! HA!!!!!

Hey Wendy,
I noticed in your last posting that you said you go camping. I bought a die cut pack for summer activities last year or early this
year and inside are a couple of tents and I THINK a fishing pole, then I have some stickers from CM that says "The Great Outdoors" w/pine trees on it and probably some other things.
Would you like these stickers and die cuts? I have NEVER been camping and probably never will go. If you'd like to have these just email me back at karenpiper@msn.com w/your mailing address and I send them to you. I'd rather give them to someone that can use them instead of staying in my album and no one taking advantage of them...plus since you're a Dale Jr fan you get an extra point in my book!!
Talk to ya soon!
Karen

Thanks Karen....I sent you an email!!:teeth:

Hey Wendy,
Got your email. Will try to get in mail tomorrow or Friday at the latest. Kids have school registration tomorrow so busy day for all of us. One begins kindergarten!!
Will email you when I make it to mail box!
THANKS!
Karen

I have our family album that is now 3years behind

DS's BoyScout Album 2 years behind

2 trips behine on my Disney Album

and I also have an album on my neice's that I'm 1 year behind.

I'm been so busy scraping for hire the past 2 years that I've have to put my own on the back burner. I start a 2 wks vac. on Mon so I'm hopping to catch up on the BoyScout album and get the Disney album done. From my lips to God's ears..............LOL

As for catching up I don't think that will every happen, I love to take pcitures to much!!!

And when the day comes and I leave this great place we call home then they can fight over which album they want, so far the only one of my 3 son's that give a hoot about looking at them is my 12 yo.

Well, I started scraping when my oldest was 5 years old so, right now I am just scraping any thing I feel like. I use top loading so, I can rearrange later. I have completed about 8 albums. I have a few dedicated albums I did for my dd preschool years, a disney album & our wedding album. The rest are just family events, life before kids, etc.... I am going all over the place. I wish I was more organized...

This was something I really wrestled with. My first scrapbook was my WDW honeymoon book in 2002. When my son was born a year ago I was trying to decide what to do with all the pictures we took of him. Anyhow I do a smaller scrapbook for him with just couple pictures of special occasions and stuff. Would never have the time to replicate an entire family album for him plus any other kids that come along.

So I do like 1 or 2 pages for Christmas, etc. In the family scrapbook I chronicalogically (sp.) scrapbook every picture.

i think bigs trips like DL and WDW I may have to do seperate albums.

1 Wedding
1 Hertage
up to 5 family books
1 Christmas
1 school for Ds
1 sports book for Ds
1 baby book for DD
1 baby book for Ds
1 book of first for Ds (fist day, first steps etc.. in a 5x7)
1 book of first for DD
starting school book for DD
starting sports book for DD
Disney Book
Disney Auto Book
1 book for my parents house on the Ches Bay
memory book for my granmother

Currently "in progress" albums:

Chronological books from birth for DS and DD
(DS (almost 4) has about 10 and DD (1 1/2) has about 5)

Birthday books for each child

Preschool book for DS

Christmas album that includes only our Family Christmas letter, and family photo from that year.

All vacations have their own album - WDW 2002 finally finished YEA!

Who knows if my children will actully want ALL these albums that I have made for them but since I love taking pictures and scrappin' them, I don't see myself slowing down any. :-)
