How Long (Predict) Trips are Out to the USA

Some good news is that Wonderland is opening May 14th. At least there is that.

We will see I’m not sure if they didn’t let them open last summer , that they will let them just open this May.. we aren’t supposed to travel out of our own areas at all and Vaughn is a hot spot .. fingers are crossed tho..

The idea of having nowhere to go and nothing to do again this year is really starting to get to me.

Vacation 2019: PEI beach vacation cut short/ruined when we got the call that DHs father had a life threatening accident and we had to leave immediately.

Vacation 2020: planned 10 day trip to NH/VT. Ruined thanks to Covid.

Vacation 2021: planned trip to Disney. Ruined thanks to Covid. And by the sounds of things, probably won't even be able to leave our province to actually take a trip anywhere else, even in Canada.

So... they say things come in 3s. PLEASE may that be the 3??? Maybe, just maybe we can travel in summer 2022? The desire to just go away somewhere, anywhere, is so strong. Just to have that break for our family.

DD12 and I, plus my parents (late 60s/70) were supposed to be at WDW first week of December. I moved it to the same week for 2021 as we wanted to do all of the Christmas stuff. If the Christmas Party, Candlelight Processional, TRON, etc won't be ready for that time, I might bite the bullet and go whenever we can (early 2022?) instead of waiting until Christmas 2022. I have other places I want to visit and hopefully get back to cruising.

We already have 5-day passes and lots of money tied up into WDW gift cards, which keeps us locked into visiting one more time.

I’m now thinking going in the fall will be out. that means we can’t go until February 2022 and this is to replace our March 2020 trip 😫. I’m running out of times I can take my daughter cause she’s in university now.
Don't worry wdwmom3, so long as mom's paying the kids keep playing. My DS24 will go with me anytime. (we have an April 2020 trip to make up)

It’s a matter of time. Once she starts into her co-op terms she will have very little time off school.

It seems like a lot of places, like Wonderland, are trying to will things into opening....the power of positive thinking? I noticed that summer overnight camps are all making opening plans.

I'm another one who is having a hard time with the inability to even plan travel. It is my favourite hobby!

I'd be okay with travelling within Canada this summer but if we are limited to Ontario....there aren't many places that I haven't been that I'm excited about going. We did the cottage rental on Manitoulin last summer and it was lovely but not somewhere I'm interested in going back to this summer. Maybe northern Ontario? I've only really driven through Thunder Bay so might be worth a longer visit but I'm not sure that the kiddo (turning 13) is going to be excited to spend that much time in the car with just trees and rocks to look at. Though you never know as lockdown did make her more open to things she'd previously have found terribly boring (like going for random drives). I might start researching some options as that will make me happy even if it is a trip we never take!

Nothing even comes close to Disney or a cruise (our 2 very favorite vacations so they are my bias).
Last summer we lost Disney World + 4 night cruise due to covid. We ended up spending a couple nights at one of those cottage resorts in Ontario. I selected this specific one as it was as close to a cruise as could get: included things to do along the water and on the property (paddle boarding, kayaking, tennis, bike riding, etc), we purchased the meal plan, and they had specific run activities (art, games) and shows / events at night. Our kids still enjoyed it quite a bit and it was nice to just get away, but not even close. This summer we have a cruise booked...obviously won't make it, but not sure if we'll do something like last summer in its place. (DH didn't like it as it was very pricey for what we got).

Sooo just want to get back to real vacation, but think that's going to be a long long time.
