How long off pill before TTC?

DH and I are pretty sure we're ready for another baby. DS will be 3 in July. We hope to buy a house this summer and start trying in the fall for a baby. I have my annual exam scheduled for June. I planned on discussing this with my doctor then, but I've read a few places that some doctors suggest being off the pill for 6 months. Is that normal? If so, I may have to call my doctor and discuss this with her before June (if I can get a hold of her!). Thanks!

My Dr. told me 2-3 months before TTC but I feel more comfortable with 6. She also told me I could just stop the pill whenever I was ready, no need to consult her....HTH and Good luck

Dr. told me at least a couple of months so that when you do conceive that they can determine a more accurate due date b/c hopefully you've had at least 2 regular cycles. But with our first I was off the pill and 2 weeks later DD was conceived--fertile myrtle here! But with the ultrasounds as good as they are now, that's how my due date was calculated. Good luck!

I was always told 3 regular periods. It helps them calculate your do date.

My ob/gyn told me be off for at least one period to help determine due date, but she said that's really the only reason. My family physician, who also does ob/gyn care and baby delivery, said I could go off whenever I felt like it- they can determine with pretty good accuracy the due date with sonograms now.

My ObGyn told me that would could start TTC as soon as we came off the pill. The main reason to wait is to regulate your cycle. I have been off since the last of December and slowly regulating. I would get off as soon as possible if I were you.

I had always heard 2-3 months, but that is just to get your cycle regulated. I'm another one of those "fertile myrtles" and was pregnant about 6 weeks after going off the pill. Hope things go that easily for baby #2 .

I was off the pill for a whole three weeks before I became pregnant with my son.

I went off bcp and started trying right away. They say that your cycle will go back to the way it was before BCP. I was always very regular so I wasn't too worried. There is not any medical reasons to wait, it mostly so that you regulate your cycle and can predicate and accurate due date.

Before I had DD #1, my Dr. said they suggest 2-3 months off the pill before TTC. BUT, she stressed that it's really not for any medical reason (like others said, with ultrasound they can pretty easily determine due date now). She said that, because it may take a few months for your cycle to regulate itself, it's hard to determine when your fertile days are, so you may not get pregnant right away simply because your timing is off. Then, because it's been a few months of TTC and no pregnancy, people sometimes start to worry that there's a problem. If you wait a few months, your cycle will probably be regular again, and it will be easier to know when you should be ovulating.

Personally, I'd just go off the pill, and not worry about using anything if you are okay with getting pregnant right away. But, know that the first few months it may be less likely to happen.

Thanks everyone. I don't want to get off too soon...would rather wait until we get a better idea of if we will be able to get a house this summer. Guess I'll have to talk to DH about it and see what he thinks.

Pin Wizard...Yes, he'll be THREE! I can hardly believe it either! LOL! Time sure does fly by. He's so much fun right now, though...guess that's why we're ready for another...being a parent is super fun right now.

My OB said 1 month. She just recommends one non-pill period.

My ob said a month or two but pref three. This was because I had been on the pill for eight years and had a super small period. The time would allow my body to create a "fluffier" lining and reduces the chance of miscarriage... that said, we waited one month off bcp and got pregnant the very next month. No problems so far!
