I just got my son's bus schedule. We live 7 miles from the school. He has a 40 minute bus ride! *he's going into 1st grade.
There are about 30 kids that get on the bus in our neighborhood- almost the full bus. So I am assuming they are dropping off the other 5 kids first.

How long is your child's bus ride. I'll be picking him up I guess..

We live 4 miles from the school. The bus ride is about 15 minutes in the morning (only one or two stops after our house), but my daughter doesn't make it home until an hour after school is dismissed in the afternoon.

Our busses stop at every house though. We live in a village and three of our neighbors have kids. The bus stops at four houses in a row and watches that the children get inside each house (and that a parent is home depending on the age) before pulling away.

My girls' elementary bus ride was 30 to 35 min -- for less than 2 miles, 40-45 plus coming home. Really consider giving the bus a try before driving. Mine considered it social time and got plenty of homework done on the ride home quite often.

When so many kids in your neighborhood are riding, it may not be to your child's advantage to remove him from the experience with all the rest.

We bring DDs to school in the morning because their bus ride would have been about 45 minutes to get about 3 miles, and would require them to ride the bus with middle and high schoolers.

Their afternoon ride is about 2 miles and takes less than 10 minutes.

No idea. I have one that started K today and one going into 9th.

Doesn't really matter though. My husband and both work. Kids are riding the bus.

I remember my K-4 bus ride being about 45 minutes... but this was 20 years ago! The school wasn't even a mile away, but we had to go around a lake and pick other kids up, thus the long drive.

It was a good social time, and in the PM, I remember getting a LOT of my homework done.

Good times on the bus!

We are about 8 miles from school.

We don't live in town but on the outskirts (more land vs the townies who have little land, closer houses).

The bus picks up the kids at bout 7:45 & they get to school at about 8:15 8:20 or 8:25 (my dd tells me she misses morning recess because they are late, but the bus driver is far better then the previous speed demon so I am happy she is missing am recess).

We are at the middle of the stop. The bus starts in between the town & us in the boonies & then goes to the street just beyond ours & then around to us. Then it goes down another road, into the next town & comes back to our town & picks up some of the townies.

The return bus I'd say leaves at about 3:05 give or take a few minutes. On regular days it gets to our stop at 3:40 & we are one of the last stops on the way home.

I don't mind since my kids have their friends on the bus that they chit chat with & my oldest would sometimes do her math homework on the bus too.

I agree. All 4 have about 45 min ea. way. Time to get homework/reading done.

We are no lie just down the street from the school, less than 1 mile. But since the kids are the first picked up and last dropped off, they are on the bus for about 25 minutes.

40 mins here too!

It is just ridiculous as all the other 4 elem. schools are closer - but they chose to bus our little ones to the other corner of the district!!!:sad2:

I used to have a long ride, but that was because I lived in the boonies and there was only one school, so no choice - that I can understand!!!

DD is going into middle school this year, that should make it more like 25 to 30. Plus, it isn't as big a deal to me once they are older.

Mine always rode the bus, but many parents in the neighorhood would drive their kids.

My kids are spoiled. They've been the last ones on in the morning and the first ones off in the afternoon. It takes about 5-7 minutes from the school. The honeymoon is sort of over this year as they are extending the route. I think they're still spoiled since the bus drops off in reverse order when they pick up. Those poor first kids on. :sad1:

My DD is one of the first stops in the morning, and spends about 25-30 minutes on the bus. We could walk to the school in 5-10, depending on how slow she is that day. DS walks in less than 5 minutes, but two neighbor girls ride. They are the last stop in the afternoon and spend 30-35 minutes on the bus. The school is 1/4 of a mile from our house.

ETA ~ When my oldest DS was in kindergarten, he was on the bus for 45 minutes. It was a "K" only school, and he loved spending time with his friends. Now, in high school, he is on the bus for 30-35 minutes. Last year, he was part of the "second wave" of buses so not only was the bus ride 30-35 minutes, he first had to sit and wait 30 minutes for the bus to return from the first run.

We are lucky here.

Last one on in the morning, and first one off in the afternoon. Live 2 miles from school, so about a 5 minute ride.

It's a lot quicker than I could do myself, especially in the wintertime when you factor in getting the car scraped and warmed up, and bundling up little sis into a jacket and car seat, then having to wait in the drop off line.

DD's bus was about 30 minutes. We are about a mile from school.

When I took the bus, we lived about 10 miles from HS, and were on the bus at least 40 minutes. Elementary was only about 4 miles, but we were picked up at my grandparents who lived closer. I couldn't tell you how long that trip was- don't remember, but we took a different bus home in the afternoon. It was at least 30-40 minutes until we got home.

My son is first one on in the morning, last one off in the afternoon. 40 minutes. The school is about 8 miles away, but the bus does 2 schools and my son's is the second one to drop off/pick up at. I typically drive him in the morning so he can sleep in a little more and eat breakfast without rushing. It takes me under 10 minutes to get there.

We live about 2 miles or less from school and his drop off time is scheduled for 2:13. School lets out at 2. But in the morning, his pickup time is 7:08, and school starts at 7:45am.
