How long is too long to wait?

Keep in mind if purchasing resale, you can purchase a different UY if BCV is what you really want. We have actually 3 different UY's and have no problems at all with it.

Carol, I'm glad that you posted this. I don't know if you can answer this, but if we were to look at buying points with a different use year, would it really make no difference as to what use year we choose? For example, should we try to get points with a use year that is in close proximity to our current use year or does it really not make any difference? I'm just not familiar with the logistics of trying to manage points with different use years. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Good question. I'm interested in knowing that one too. Do you have a tip for keeping it straight?

I'm a Carol - may I answer your question? ;) :teeth:

If you get a different use year, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. The contracts are totally separate and will have different membership numbers. You will have to tell MS every time which contract/membership you are using to make your reservation. The contracts will have different banking deadlines to keep track of. In short, you will manage each contract as though the other contract belonged to someone else.

2. There can be issues when you want to combine points to make a reservation. You may reserve only whole nights from each contract. If you reserve some nights from one contract and some nights from the other, it wouldn't hurt to remind MS to link the reservations. (If the CM forgets, you could end up moving or checking out and back in again during the middle of your stay. If you do not have enough points to reserve a whole night and want to use points from your other contract, you must do a transfer. Since you may only transfer once per use year per contract, that transfer will use up your transfer entitlement for both contracts for the year. For example, let's say a night costs 16 points and you have 11 points left in contract A and 9 points left in contract B. You would have to transfer points between contracts to get 16 points in the same contract. That uses up your transfer for both contracts for that use year.

Lots of members have contracts with different use years / different memberships. It's not quite as easy to manage them as it is to manage the more traditional Master with add on arrangement, but it's not rocket science either. You just have to pay attention and understand how the system works for that situation.

I've not used them but I have read a lot of positive comments here on the Disboards about them.
