How Long Is Too Long to Wait For Furniture

This was a huge issue in our recent furniture purchase, I finally went with a local store, got my custom sofa in 4 weeks, exactly what I wanted, made in the US---and I spent a lot less money on it.

I think I would go ask for my money back--or have your Dh go. If they won't give you a reasonable explaination or the money, call the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce--and let the store know you will be calling.
 
It definitely depends on how much you want the piece.

The reasons for it taking so long can be many - depends on where it is manufactured (most likely China), it also depends on the distribution center. Now days they don't like to send trucks out that are not full so they will hold up everyone's order until they have a full truck to go to your area. Then you've got to schedule a local delivery. This is also why there is such a big markup on furniture - at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the price is for shipping and/or warehouse storage.

We love their furniture, but every time we order a piece from them it is always delayed...and then two days before your delivery appointment you get another phone call that it is delayed another 4-6 weeks (and again!), so we have crossed them off our list of stores to shop. One time we ordered an entertainment center 8 weeks out so it could be delivered to our new house and we wouldn't have to move it...and even though it was in-stock when we purchased it, we got the dreaded delayed phone call. Never again!
 
The only time I've waited more than 8 weeks is because we held off delivery as long as possible. We gutted our bedroom and got a little ahead of ourselves and ordered furniture before the room was done figuring we'd have it done in 6 weeks. We were wrong.

If the store was communicating with me as to why it was taking so long, what was going on, etc., I'd be a little more patient. I would also ask for a new projected delivery date. If they just say "I don't know" and leave it at that? I'd ask them to cancel and fully refund my order and go elsewhere. They might not have control over the factory, but there is no excuse for poor customer service.
