How long is the wait list for VCG?

If you bought at the VGC after it was sold out how long did you wait?
Also I didn't want to make a second post, but what discounts do DVC members get on things like annual passes and merchandise?

The discount on AP's at DL is only $20. The restaurant discount is 10%, pretty much everywhere at DL. The member site is only showing merchandise discounts at Downtown Disney but I think I got merchandise discounts at the park with my AP.

You only get one discount, which ever is larger. I tried to add them together once. Good try, but no cigar.

Regarding the wait list for VGC, originally purchased 160 points in Feb 2010 and then added 50 points in November 2010. At that time, which is a long time ago in DVC time, we didn't have to wait. For a more recent experience, you might try this thread which is about someone who tried to buy VGC through a reseller and got ROFRed. There is some discussion about the length of the VGC wait list.

Hi all! Great information for prospective buyers.

What are the typical results of getting a reservation at VGC at the 7 month time for the different type units (at various times of the year but not during the peak weeks like Christmas)? We have only been to DL (and love the parks and the Grand Calif.) and would continue to go there more than WDW but would like to go to Orlando maybe every few years and maybe to Hawaii every once in awhile too. Would love to buy into DVC at some of the WDW resort resale prices but if we are mostly going to Anaheim, should we go direct? I see a few resale contracts for VGC but I don't want 200+ points and that seem to be what's currently listed for sale. I haven't seen smaller contracts but may have missed some listings.

I think that generally folks have said that they can book the VGC at 7 months out without too much trouble, so far. But that would not include holidays or peak travel times. There might be a night here or there, but not consecutive nights.

Just to have peace of mind I'd buy VGC...that is what I did because I mainly go to DLR and really wanted that 11 month booking advantage.
