How long is alcohol 'good' ?

I have some alcohol that is probably 2 years old. It has been in the cupboard all that time. Some of the bottles have a small amount used. Does type of alcohol matter? Obviously this is not wine

Dh does not think hard liquor should go bad in two years. Alcohol provides good preservative value.

I had some that I didn't reopen for several months and when I did reopen it it tasted funny.

I don't think alcohol goes bad...and especially just after 2 years!

My uncle who owned our house before us owned a bar and we have a box in the garage with misc bottles of stuff.....it is probably about 30+ years old. My dad has even opened a couple to drink (whiskey) and it was just fine.

Straight alcohol won't go bad, things like gin, vodka, tequila, whiskey etc. Cordials and schnapps can have sugar and flavorings added- they won't go bad in the sense of going moldy, but the flavors and colors may change if they have been sitting for a while. They might taste 'stale' or 'off' but they won't hurt you!

Whoa!!!! I don't think I've ever had a bottle make it more than 3 months in my house...people actually buy alcohol and not drink it? I'm so confused, this a concept I don't understand.

Not big drinkers here. DH doesn't drink at all. I had a couple of parties a couple of years ago and make margaritas and strawberry daquaris. THat is what the alcohol is left from. I do also have some peach schnapps... so that might be trashed. I am having a craving for margaritas and bought some mix.... Probably be tomorrow before it is frozen (dang it!).

If it is Name brnad GOOD stuff, than it is OK. I had some off brand Vodka that tasted like vomit!

FYI...learn from my idiocy...Bailey's Irish CREAM does not last..duh the name is cream...I had some left after college. When we tried a few years later to open it, the whole thing was one solid clump.
