How long from TTC to MK tapstiles?

How much time would you allot at RD to get from the TTC station (probably monorail) to the security and then through security (I have a purse and camera bag, DH has a small backpack) and on to the tapstiles?

Also what time does security start working and what time do tapstiles open? Is there a line up waiting for that 8am opening?

The new procedure has you doing the following:
Park your car at ttc parking lot
Take a tram or walk to ttc
Go through security before the ticket windows at ttc
Go on monorail or boat to mk
Line up at mk entrance

Security usually starts around 6:30-7 for an official 9am park opening
You will be allowed into main street at 8am or a little before
I would allow at least an hour from the moment you park to the time you line up at mk tapstiles

Be aware that if it's a 9:00a.m. official opening with 8:00 a.m. extra magic hours, they often don't start running the monorail until 8:00a.m. We ran into trouble with this on our last trip. We got to the TTC by 7:20, were parked and through security around 7:40, but taking the ferry was then our only option. They did not run the ferry until it was completely full, so we literally stood on deck for TWENTY MINUTES until they even started moving. This got us to the tapstiles at 8:10, causing us to completely lose our timing advantage. Those taking buses from resorts were much better off than those who drove and parked at the TTC.

I always allow a full hour from the time I park until the time I get to the tapstyles.

WOW!!! A full hour from car to tapstiles? I'm stunned. Is security that backed up or just that thorough? Honestly, it didn't take that long going through MCO security last time we were there.

Also, we will not be going on an EMM or EMH day. Will that affect the monorail?

I would say it's the tram and then the ferry / monorail that are the most time consuming. Lots of waiting around for boarding, then sitting through the security talk before they pull away, etc... unless you just happen to walk up to each transportation option at the exact right moment. Security is only about 10 minutes on most days...

next time you can take the resort monorail if you want to do a monorail ride

Okay, it's RD, so nix the tram. We'll likely be in the first parking lot. 10 minutes in security, even at RD?

Also, when are people getting there to 'line up' in the hub? Is 8:30 already crowded? Should we aim for earlier? I don't know yet if we'll be doing PP, Space or SDMT. I suppose that makes a difference.

the first attraction does make a difference. The biggest line (crowd of people) will form the the right of the castle, that's the entrance to go to 7DMT, the second most crowded line will be people going either straight through the castle or to the left of the castle (Liberty Square entrance) going to PP
Frontierland/Adventureland entrance has almost no crowds.
The crowds start forming shortly after 8 for 7DMT and PP

They weren't even letting anyone coming from TTC near the monorail ramp. Just redirecting us all to the ferry with a "monorail won't be running until 8:00, folks!"

yeah that's what they do, but you can always go on the resort monorail and they won't give you any problems, I like to take the ferry going over to MK in the morning, it's more direct, the resort monorail has 22 stops before it gets to MK, but if someone really wants to do a monorail that's an option.
They have the resort monorail running earlier than the direct MK monorail for guests staying at the resorts who are headed to Epcot

To be safe, give yourself an hour. If not the tram, then the walk from the front lot to TTC (all through handicap and under the tunnel thing)
Security
The wait for monorail or ferry
the ride on the monorail or ferry

You might get lucky and maybe it only takes you 30 minutes, but all it takes is one snafu to make it an hour (monorail pause for traffic, loading/unloading the ferry, etc)

Is it that bad before rope drop? We never rope drop, we always arrive at MK somewhere between 10am and 11am. From the time we step out of our car until the time we tap in is generally 20-30 minutes. Not sure if it's ever taken us an hour. It's taken an hour to get out, at fireworks, but not getting in.
