How long does system give you?

I have been stalking for an earlier 11/22 Ohana breakfast reservation and one finally popped up today. I clicked on it and got to the part with the credit card. I used the one I had on file, but forgot that it was an old one that is no longer active and it declined. By the time I grabbed another card and entered the info it said it was gone. I thought that it would at least give you 10 minutes or so to complete the transaction. Is this not correct?
