I'm pretty sure that it's as soon as they receive your paperwork back. When we purchased our first contract we were staying on cash at the VWL. We signed our paperwork and that night we stayed on points instead.
Wow, that's good to know. I have a trip planned for May where I was going to rent points but my husband (in all of his awesomeness) feels like we should just go ahead and apply that money to a purchase. It would probably be smarter. I just didn't know how long from start to finish (since we will be mailing everything) it would take.
Talk to your guide right away and let him/her know what your plans are and that it's important for you to do it that way. Our whole first purchase hinged on us being able to do it the way and our Guide made it happen after we were told it couldn't be done. Good luck.
Originally posted by WebmasterDoc If you are purchasing thru DVC directly, you will be able to make a reservation as soon as your deposit has been paid to DVC.
Resale purchasers must wait until they are entered in the DVC system after closing is complete- usually about a week later.
When I bought over the phone about 4 1/2 years ago (hard to believe it's been that long), my guide said I could call for a reservation later that day as soon as they processed the deposit! One thing though - you cannot bank or borrow until closing. Sometimes your guide can help get around that.
