How long does it take from Forward to AFT?

We've been assigned a stateroom on the Forward of the ship on deck 6. It seems that most things things are located on the AFT. This is our first cruise. My husband has trouble walking for a long period of time and I am wondering how long does it take to go from the Front of the ship to the AFT. Thank you.

It's going to depend on how fast you walk and which ship you're on. The Dream/Fantasy are 1,115′ long and the Magic/Wonder are 965. Generally if I'm going to be going from one part of the ship to another, I give myself about 5 minutes if the place is on the same side as me and I only have to go up or down one or two floors (in which case I'm taking the stairs), 10 minutes if it's on the other side of the ship and again, only up or down one or two floors OR it's not a busy time and I won't need to wait long for an elevator, and 15 minutes if I need to take an elevator at a busy time and the place is on the opposite end from where I need to be. It doesn't hurt to be early so I would give yourself 15 minutes to get places, especially if an elevator is involved on the bigger ships, 10 minutes on the Classics.

5 minutes? Really? Is that at a leisurely pace? I thought it would take 15 minutes to walk from the front to the back. That is a relief!

I don't remember how long it took us to walk from the front of the Dream to the back, but I wanted to share that there are lots of places to sit down and take a break in walking. When we were on our cruise in 2020, I had just been diagnosed with bone marrow lesions on my femur, hip, and lower back. The pain was horrible and pain medicine did nothing to touch it. I used a scooter to get around the parks, but on the ship I did ok as long as I walked slow, took my time, and used the hand rails. So keep that in mind for your husband!

The Dream is big, but even big cruise ships are only a little big longer than a football field. Not knowing what pace you consider leisurely it's hard to say, but the time consuming thing for you won't be going from the front to the back of the ship, it will be waiting for the elevators to go up and down since I am assuming you won't be using the stairs.

I would agree that you can do it in about 5 mins, if you are walking the entire time. I was on crutches one time on the Fantasy(same size as the Dream) and I would say it probably took 10 mins, 15 if I had to wait to get on an elevator or stopped to look at artwork along the way. We usually book a cabin midship. Anytime we have to go aft or forward we walk that direction while still on our cabin deck and then take the stairs or elevators. Once you get in the public areas it can sometimes get crowded. Most times there's no one or very few people in the cabin hallways. There's no places to sit in the cabin hallways either, so if your dh would need to stop and sit that may not work for you. Hope you have a great cruise.

I find it much easier to walk from one end of the ship to the other on a public deck and not a passenger cabin deck. I know its in my head but walking the cabin decks seem endless. At least on the public decks there is always something to catch your eye....p;lus you will find seating along the way on one of the public decks.

Oh, I'm sorry. the Dream
If your going to deck 9 the adult pool and quiet cove are forward and the quick serve food is close by also. The buffet is aft with the main pool and funnel vision being midships. Main dining rooms are both midships and aft on decks 2 & 3.(2 midships and one aft) The majority of the lounges are on deck 4 starting midships with the D lounge and the others are aft. The Walt Disney theater is forward.

As others have said it all depends on how fast he walks and there are places to stop especially on deck 9. However not all your trips will require him to traverse the entire length.

From an “older” person with knee issues it can seem like at least 15 minutes. If you’ve been walking a lot anyway that treck back to your forward room can be uncomfortable. I have found a stop to sit for a few minutes in the atrium or on decks above can be a big help. There were times in the evening, after a full day I just wanted to sit and cry. But it’s all worth it. Just be prepared to sit sometimes and enjoy your surroundings.

Thank you, that helps to know. I'm glad you are better! That must have been extremely difficult to go through.

LOL! I think you may be right!

Thank you all so much for your replies. Very good advice from all and I really appreciate it. This will be our first cruise and hopefully the first of many, even though we are in our 60's. What a friendly community you all are!

A hint for you.
You will have an assigned dinner time each evening. The dining room doesn’t open until the assigned time (early seating is 5:45 late seating is 8:15)
You will have a table assigned to you …. So no need to get there early and stand in line. I’ve never understood why people line up and wait in line.
We always found a place to sit near the restaurant we are in that evening and sit and people watch or have a drink. About 5 minutes after the doors to the restaurant open the line is gone and we walk right to our table.
Have a great cruise

Also keep in mind it’s seldom you would have to walk from the very front to the very back - theater all the way front and buffet all the way back. Most everything else is somewhere in between

My OLD SCHOOL Math from the '50's is that --USA Football Field = 100 yards = 300 feet = not quite 1/3 the length of Dream/Fantasy @ 1,115' long. I was never good at MATH so I could be wrong. :teeth:

You are right. So just over 3 football fields.
Is this math right, most tracks around high school football fields are a quarter mile, which is 1,115 feet (if I dare to math again)? So the length of the ship is about 1/4 mile, or one lap around a typical high school track.

A high school football field is 120 yds = 360 ft (including the end zones) and 160 ft wide. The HS track (around the football field) could be a 300m or 400m track. You start the race at one point and end at another point. Fantasy was (on the jogging track deck 4) 2.5 laps was one mile.
