Poor DD7 has been sick on and off since Monday nite with this stomach bug. She threw up all day Tuesday but since then has had tummy troubles the other way. She seems nauseated quite a bit.

Her best friend has been sick with this too but it didnt last as long with her.

I thought viruses were generally 24 hours or 48 hours.

Is something going around??

This virus is going around right now. I have heard of a few people at my work with this exact problem. It lasted from 1-3 days.

Once my daughter got it while just getting over a round of antibiotics for something else.

The rest of us, it lasted 24 hours or so, but because the antibiotics killed the 'good bacteria' in her intestines, hers would not go away until she ate yogurt for a couple of days.

Has she had antibiotics?

No she hasn't had any antiobiotics. Now I am wondering if she has some form of food poisoning or something. She did run a fever though on Tuesday and Wednesday of 101 so we assumed virus. We called the Pediatrician's office twice and they said that there were several viruses going around.

I guess if she is still having symptoms on Monday we will carry her in for an office visit just to make sure it is nothing else.

Trust me, it can last longer than 48 hours.

I got sick with this thing last Saturday. By Sunday I was running a temp of 101. Monday it was 102! Then, well let's just say, I spent the better part of the day in the bathroom from Sunday night right thru Tuesday. :guilty:

I finally ate my first REAl meal last night at supper.

Fluids for the first 24 to 48 hours. Then add applesauce, bananas, plain rice (although you can dissolve a chicken bouillon cube in the water to make it taste better) and toast as she can tolerate it. Nothing spicy or hard to digest. No dairy products until ALL the symptoms are gone. LOTS OF FLUIDS!!!

Honestly, that was the sickest I've been in years.

Best wishes to your daughter.

My DD, 10 got it last weekend and it lasted 5 days! I called the dr. after 48 hrs. and he assured me this strain was a tough one and we had to just ride it out. She's just getting back to normal this weekend and she got it a week ago Friday.

Oh boy! We have had it too! It is a rough one. My DD just laid on the bathroom floor, couldn't and didn't want to move. I was scared for her. :guilty: We got hit last weekend with it- DS-Saturday, then DH- Monday, then both DD and I on Monday and Tuesday. The day care totally shut down on Friday because all of the teachers were sick...sad to say, but parents were sending their children to school with it!! :sad2:

I am still pretty weak and dizzy all of the time. I hope it passes soon for all of us. Bleach your house and wash your hands. It is a kicker!

DD15 and DH had the 'bug' about 3 weeks ago. DH was not feeling well on Monday, stayed home from work on Tuesday, and picked DD up from school on Tuesday, since she was feeling sick . Neither one of them felt very well until Friday afternoon or so.

We've had more than our fair share of the stomach virus this year! The last time my dd had it, she threw up off and on for about three days, and then spent the next two days feeling miserable. She was feeling pretty good by day 6.

ugh..i had this for 4 or 5 days...this winter i have been sick so many times--hope it gets better soon !

I have had it. It hit me on Wednesday with nausea, headache, fever, vomiting, diahhrea, body aches, you name it. Thursday I had no fever or vomiting but still had everything else. Friday I was still very nauseous and had the body aches. Saturday, the nausea came and went and my stomach rumbled some. Today (Sunday) I have eaten a little and am starting to feel back to normal. I am ready to get back to my life now.

OP I hope your DD gets over it soon.

My pediatrician says there is one going around right now that is lasting 5-7 days! I just pray my kids don't get that one!

YES!!! It went though my house last week. What a nightmare.

I had it last year it was horrible. It lasted me about 3-4 days not fun at all. I'm hoping I don't get it this year but it seems like it might catch me since everyone has it. Blah I don't want it. Everyone at work seems to be sick with it as well. I think I'll just go to work tomorrow and shut my office door not to let anyone in I don't want to get sick with this again.

I am just getting over it as well. It started on me Monday afternoon. Apparently the one hitting everyone right now will either last only 24 hours or for days and days and days...

Hope you all are feeling much better now.

Since it is a virus antibiotics won't really help. Just make sure to keep plenty of fluids going in and don't take any anti-diarrhea medicine so it can work its way out.

Hope everyone feels better!

DD7 had a rough nite - she slept 12 hours straight and then I had to WAKE her up. She said her neck hurt which of course scared me to death but she got up and got dressed and said she was feeling a little better.

I still plan on taking her in tomorrow if she isn't back to normal. Poor kid has just had a rough week. :(

Hope your DD is feeling better.

It appears we have norovirus going around the assisted living I am a nurse at. It is highly contagious and miserable. I worked my 4 hour morning shift on Friday and I was so sick starting around midnight on Saturday. I am still not up to par, some stomach cramping. The toast is sitting better today than yesterday. I may try some rice later. I was drinking pedialyte yesterday.
